Donald Howard
Belmar resident Donald Howard died on Sunday, May 25 at home.
He was 84 years old.
Born in Stoke-on-Trent, his family came to this country in 1925 settling in Jersey City. He moved to Belmar 41 years ago. Mr. Howard served his country during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He graduated from St. Peter’s College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Before his retirement, he worked for Bel-Ray in Farmingdale.
He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Colyer Howard. Surviving are his son, Don and his wife Mitzi, of Wall; three daughters, Catherine Howard, of Belmar, Alison Seeds and her husband, Robert, of Jackson, and Lesley Endee and her husband, Dennis, of Manteo, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Leigh Scarpa, Amy and Jill Howard, Jennifer, Michael, Laurie, Catherine and Grace Seeds, Jonathan, Christen, Lauren and Zachary Endee; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar. Funeral services and burial at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown will be private.
Domenick Klein
Manasquan resident Domenick passed away Wednesday, May 21 at home.
He was 68 years old.
Domenick was born and raised in Belleville. He graduated from Belleville High School. Domenick attended Seton Hall University on a baseball and basketball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor of arts in education. He was a health and physical education teacher at Belleville High School before becoming an insurance agent with Allstate. Domenick retired from Allstate after 38 years of insurance sales. He maintained offices in Point Pleasant, Lakewood, Toms River and Brick during his 38 year career. Domenick was a work-out enthusiast. He was a member of the Brielle Sports Club and a member of the Bella Vista Golf Club. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching baseball at South Wall Little League and spending time with his grandchildren. Domenick was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
Domenick was predeceased by his father, Edward Klein.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dolores Ruglio Klein, of Manasquan; his mother, Caroline Falco Klein, of Jamesburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Domenick Klein, of Philadelphia, and Dr. Martin Edward Klein and his wife, Dr. Laura Klein, of Flemington; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Kevin Markland, , of Brielle; and four grandchildren, Jessika Rae Markland, Rebecka Lee Markland, Sonia Jane Klein and Gabriel Levi Klein. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Andriano and Carol Cerza, both of Jamesburg; three sisters-in-law, Maryann Vinges and her husband, Tom, of Brick, Marlene DiLauri, of Brielle and Linda Utter, of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Douglas E. Johnson
Manasquan and Naples, Fla. resident Douglas E. Johnson died on Friday, May 16 in Florida.
He was 68 years old.
He was born in Avon and was a life-long resident of the Jersey Shore. He was a proud graduate of Asbury Park High School, class of 1957, received his degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. and attended NYU School of Business. Mr. Johnson started his banking career in 1961 with Irving Trust Company, N.Y.C., serving as its youngest vice president at that time. He then joined Ocean County National Bank in Point Pleasant where he was named chairman and president in 1970 at age 33, the youngest bank president in New Jersey. He continued his career at Summit Bancorporation in 1980 becoming vice chairman. A highlight of his career was serving on the Federal Reserve Board in Philadelphia. At their request, he became the president and CEO of the First National Bank of Toms River in 1989. He then became president for Eastern New Jersey with First Fidelity and continuing in this position when it became First Union until 1998. After a brief retirement, he joined Ocean First as managing director of new business. Most recently, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Rumson-Fair Haven Bank. He served on many professional and charitable boards throughout his lifetime. He was chairman of the Board for Medical Center of Ocean County [1985-1990], president of the Ocean County Boy Scout Council [1979-1980], chairman of the Brielle Juvenile Conference Committee [1980-1983], a member of the Board of Trustees of Monmouth University [1994-2000], a member of the Board of Trustees for The Mercy Center [1996-present], a member the Board of Trustees for 180 Degrees Turning Lives Around and served as its chairman of the Men’s Task Force. He was a Board Member at Camp Zehnder, YMCA [2000-present] and the Algonquin Art Center, Manasquan.
Mr. Johnson was deeply interested in serving his community and others, particularly sponsoring young student athletes. He received many awards of recognition: The distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America, the Silver Gull Award, Jersey Shore Partnership Corporate Partner Award, Women’s Center of Monmouth County Award, and the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Mercy Center.
Mr. Johnson was a talented trumpet player and participated in various orchestras, concert bands, and community and church groups. He had the unique distinction of being a bugler at Monmouth Park Racetrack in his youth. He was an avid sports fan and an enthusiastic supporter of Manasquan High School, Asbury Park High School and Monmouth University athletics and also enjoyed playing golf at the Manasquan River Golf Club where he served as treasurer and trustee from 1996-2004.
He was predeceased his parents, Helen and Raymond Johnson, and his brother Raymond Johnson Jr.
He is survived his wife, Elaine Kuchen Johnson; his brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Kim Johnson, of Oyster Bay, N.Y.; his former wife, Barbara Johnson, of Brielle, and their daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Joe Riordan, of Brielle, Lisa and Billy Morton, of Manasquan, and Susan and Jordan Mrazek, of Brielle; and his step-daughters and their husbands, Tracie and Peter Buckley, of New York City, and Jennifer and Casey Moulton, of Santa Monica, Calif. He will be sorely missed by his 10 grandchildren, Sean, Alex and Michael Riordan, Bruce and Bailey Juska, Seana and CJ Morton, Tyler and Annika Mrazek and Chase Buckley.
Friends may call today, Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road at Highway 70, Brick.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan.

Hartwell Clayton
Wall Township resident Hartwell W. Clayton died Wednesday, May 21 at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
He was 83 years old.
He was born in Asbury Park and was a lifelong resident of Wall Township. He was employed as a carpenter in the Monmouth County area and was an avid fisherman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Bruno Clayton, in 1993; and his brother, Clarence Clayton.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Clayton Sr., of Wall; his brother, Leon Clayton, of Bricktown; two sisters, Olive Nunn, of Toms River, and Ruth Fornarotto, of Wall; three grandchildren, Thomas Clayton Jr., Tel Clayton, and Ronald Clayton, all of Wall; and a great-grandson, Damian Clayton.
Interment was held in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

Florence Kapiloff
Florence Lanning Kapiloff died on Monday May 26 at the Tower Lodge Care Center of Wall Township.
She was 106 years old.
Mrs. Kapiloff was born at home in Asbury Park on March 19, 1902. Her five siblings all predeceased her. Her father Frank Wesley Lanning was the first paid driver for the Asbury Park Fire Department, he held Badge No. 1, which was, ironically, lost many years later in a fire. Her mother, Johanna Patterson Herbert, was the daughter of B. Frank Herbert, who was a builder in Avon and Civil War Veteran.
Mrs. Kapiloff went to work at age 15 for the JC McCrory Company, a department store in Asbury Park. Florence met her future husband, Ben Kapiloff, at a dance at the convention Hall. They were married
December 31, 1928 by a Justice of the Peace and had married
55 years prior to her husband’s death in 1984.
They owned an operated Tailoring and Dry Cleaning stores in Keansburg, Allenhurst, and Spring Lake Heights. She lived the majority of her life in Monmouth County.
On her 100th birthday in 2002, Florence was honored by the Spring Lake Heights Grade School as their “Person of the Month, ” and her grandson Larry Mains, read a dissertation on how her growing up years had been, with no telephone, TV or all the modern conveniences. She was also honored by the Mayor and Council of Spring Lake Heights at the ages of 105 and 106.
Florence is survived by her children, Judge Lawrence Kapiloff, of San Diego, Calif., and Shirley Mains and her husband, David, of Spring Lake Heights; six grandchildren, Norman Kapiloff, Yvonne Sanchez, and Johanna Kapiloff, of California, David Mains, of Neptune, Michael Mains, of Bar Harbor, Maine, and Larry Mains, of Spring Lake Heights; 10 great-grandchildren; Benjamin, Jason, Caresa, and Desiree Sanchez, Madison and Ryan Kapiloff, all of California, Melissa Mains, of New Jersey, Issac Mains, of Bar Harbor, Maine, Thomas and Lois Mains, of Spring Lake Heights; two adopted great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jamie Mains; and three step great-grandchildren; Michael, Daniel, and Olivia Fletcher, all of Maine, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Florence enjoyed her family and the camping trips she took with them, even when she was well in to her 90s. She also enjoyed gardening, playing Scrabble, Bingo, and “Snake Eyes” and enjoyed her Big Whopper at Burger King.
Visitation will be held on today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Johnson McGinley Funeral Home 2652, Highway 138, Wall [adjacent to the Route 18 north entrance]. On Friday at 10 a.m., funeral services will be offered at the funeral home with Pastor Marion Jackson of the Wall United Methodist Church officiating. Interment
will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park Route 33 West, Tinton Falls.

Helen May White
Lake Como resident Helen May [Matthews] White died on Tuesday, May 6, at Ocean Medical Center.
She was born in Spring Lake Heights and lived in Lake Como since 1948.
Mrs. White was a member of the Wall Methodist Church. She loved her family, her music, her garden and her friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald L. White Sr.
Surviving are three sons, Donald L. Jr. and his wife Barbara, of Wall, Thomas R. and his wife, Polly, of Arizona, and Gregory A. and his wife Lisa, of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Carol Yavarone and her husband, Paul, of Wall, and Margie Moorman and her husband, Jim, of Brick; two sisters, Betty McKelvey, of South Carolina, and Lois Patterson, of Neptune; 13 grandchildren, Savannah, Paul Jr., Helen Marie, Joey, Julia, Justin, Jamie, Jeff, Trevor, Devon, Gavin, Amanda May, and Jimmy; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at Wall Methodist Church, Old Mill Road, Spring Lake Heights. Interment
will be in Wall Church Cemetery.
Marie Louise Reilly
Sea Girt resident Marie Louise Reilly passed away on Thursday, May 1 at home.
She was 72 years old.
Born in Manhattan to parents Estelle and Peter Reilly, she lived on the Upper East Side where she was a parishioner of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, before moving to Sea Girt. Marie Louise was a graduate of Marymount School where she made many life long friends. She was a communicant at St. Mark’s R.C. Church in Sea Girt. Marie Louise sponsored children in India through Love and Care Mission, and volunteered in many places including the catechism program at St. Mark’s Church, Right to Life Campaign and Visiting Nurse Association. She recently worked at Wexford Assisted Living, Wall and Quality Care, Sea Girt.
Marie Louise was predeceased by her parents, Estelle and Peter Reilly; loving sisters, Estelle Patricia and Christine Reilly; and loving brother, G. Myles Reilly, all of Manhattan.
She is survived by her brother, Peter Reilly and his wife, Terry, and their two children; Peter Reilly and his wife, Bernadette, of Basking Ridge, and their children, Conor and Liam; and Lara Reilly Dalton and her husband, Christopher, of Neptune City, and their children Christina and Bryan.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, in Hawthorne, N.Y.

Janet Ebner
Wall Township resident Janet Ann DeBow Ebner passed away Wednesday, April 23, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
She was 76 years old.
She lived all of her life in Manasquan until moving to Wall in 1965. She graduated from Manasquan High School, and then attended Western Maryland College.
She was a bookkeeper for Mike Doolan’s, Harry L. Murphy Company and personal secretary for Jennie Nicol, former owner of Wall Stadium. She was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church, Manasquan Engine Co. No. 2 Ladies Auxiliary, Manasquan Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, Wall AARP and the Pride of Wall Seniors where she served as secretary.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, Alfred L. and Gertrude DeBow.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, John C. Jr.; children, Carol Taylor and her husband, Stan, of Jackson, David and Elizabeth Ebner, of Florida, Sharon Ebner, of Wall, Rick and Elizabeth Ebner, of West Long Branch; her grandchildren, James Wilson and his wife, Janai, Richard Wilson and his fiancee, Christina, Laura and Jessie Ebner; and two great- grandchildren, Tyler and Caleb Wilson.
Interment was held at the Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.
