Elizabeth A. Milton
Cheshire, Conn. resident Elizabeth A. Milton passed away peacefully Sunday, April 6 at Highlands Health Care Center in Cheshire, with her three daughters by her side.

She was the wife of the late Charles A. Milton, of Spring Lake.

She was 92 years old.

Mrs. Milton was born December 2, 1915 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late Bernard and Catherine [McEnroe] O’Connor, both of Ireland.

She was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Church, in Spring Lake.

She was an avid golfer who resided in New Jersey before moving to Southwick in Cheshire in the late 1990s.

Mrs. Milton is survived by her three daughters, Catherine Stone and her husband, Robert, of Cheshire, Eileen Milton, of Worcester, Mass., and Barbara Brumbaugh and her husband, Harry, of Fremont, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Gina D’Ottavio, Cara [D’Ottavio] Garber, Jill [Brumbaugh] Bekaert, Diana Brumbaugh, Jennifer [Stone] Grasso, Robert D’Ottavio, and Eleanor [Stone] Race; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held today at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, Conn. at 10 a.m.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of CT, 33 North Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.

The Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire, is in charge of arrangements.

Karen Blank
Allenwood section of Wall Township resident Karen Charlotte Blank passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 2 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with her devoted family at her side..

She was 59 years old.

Karen had been employed as a learning assistant at Ocean County College, Toms River, a job she was very proud of.

She was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan and was thankful for the kind deeds they had done for her over the years, including delivering flowers to her and caroling for her at Christmas.

She had received her bachelors of arts degree from Trenton State College. Born in Allentown, Pa., she had lived in the Shore area and then in Brick for 17 years before moving to the Allenwood section of Wall six years ago.

Karen’s family said of her, “Karen was the center of our family who taught us to have compassion for others.”

She was predeceased by her father, George Jacob Blank, and then in 1989, by her twin sister, Sharon Muhlenbeck.

Surviving are her devoted mother, Dorothy Steckel Blank, with whom she lived; her brother, Gary Alvin Blank, of the Allenwood section of Wall; her sister, Colleen Catanakis, of Medford; her six nieces, Dana and Amanda Blank, Kimberly Dimel, Betsy Githens, and Katherine and Alexa Catanakis; her great nephew, Emmett Blank; and her three great nieces, Callie and Emilie Dimel and Ashley Githens.

Burial was held in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway No. 1, North Brunswick, 08902-4301.

Rosemary Tassini
Manasquan resident Rosemary Tassini died Thursday, April 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune.

She was 75 years old.

Ms. Tassini was a medical technologist for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, then at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch and Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel for many years, before retiring in 1990. She was a graduate of Manasquan High School and attended Marymount College in Tarreytown, N.Y.

She was a member of the Garden Club and did volunteer work at the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan. She loved to travel and loved her cats.

Mr. Tassini was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Mildred, her sister, Joan Tassini, in 1936, and her nephew, Stephen Sciarappa, in 1981.

She is survived by her sister, Claire Sciarappa and her husband, Nicholas, of Manasquan; three nieces, Dr. Lorette Sciarappa and her husband James Schmieder, Christine Rice and her husband Christopher, Carolyn Kline and her husband Jeff, all of Manasquan; 10 grand nieces and nephews, Elsie, Stephen and Alex Schmieder, Matthew, Abbigail, Nicholas and Tommy Rice, Madeline, Delia and Miles Kline; and a cousin and dear friend, Frieda Giunco, of Manalapan.

Rosemary’s wishes were to donate her body to science to help others.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosemary’s name may be made to either: K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, made payable to JSUMC Foundation, 1945 Route 33, Neptune, 07753, or, St. Denis Church, 90 Union Ave., Manasquan, 08736.

Neary Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Annabelle DeVoti
Lake Como resident Annabelle McGlynn DeVoti, and a lifelong resident of Montclair, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, at her residence with her loving family by her side.

She was 81 years old.

Mrs. DeVoti had been the Chaplain’s Office Secretary at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair for 20 years.

Born in Newark, she had lived in Montclair for many years before moving to Lake Como 12 years ago. She was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School, Newark.

Mrs. DeVoti was a very active woman who besides caring for her large extended family, volunteered her time for many years. She was a member of the Bloomfield Jr. Women’s Club, the Do - Nothing’s Social Club for 47 years, a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Choir, Montclair for over 25 years, and a member of the St. Joseph’s Guild, Sterling. Since moving to the Shore, Mrs. DeVoti had been a volunteer at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Chaplain’s Office, Neptune for seven years, a member of the Belmar Women’s Club, and a member of the Daughters of Irish Heritage of the Jersey Shore. She was also a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, Avon by the Sea and had also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society of the Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Alice McGreevy McGlynn, her son, George William DeVoti, her brother and his wife, James and Jean McGlynn, and her sister and her husband, Loretta Rose and Joseph Treshock.

Surviving is her husband, William James DeVoti Sr.; her children and their spouses, William James DeVoti Jr., of Wall Township, Mark and Jean DeVoti, of Cranford, Matt and Laura DeVoti, of North Caldwell, Suzanne Fitzgerald, of Wall Township, Marlene Fetterly, of Bloomfield, Jacquelyn DeVoti, of Lake Como, and Denise and Michael Sperrazza, of Essex Fells; her 15 grandchildren, Catherine Fitzgerald Boera and her husband Bill, Colin, Bridget, and Carolyn Fitzgerald, Amanda and Joseph Fetterly, Colleen, Meghan, John, Jillian, Matthew, and Julie DeVoti, Gregory. Matthew, and Michelle Sperrazza; and her three great- grandchildren, Reagan, Liam and Madison Boera.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Anne’s Villa, Convent Station, Morristown, or Immaculate Conception Church, 30 North Fullerton Ave., Montclair, 07042 in her memory.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township, was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Gallagher
Manasquan resident Robert H. Gallagher died Saturday, April 5, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He was 88 years old.

Born in Trenton, he lived in Lakewood and Point Pleasant, before moving to Manasquan 58 years ago.

Mr. Gallagher owned and operated Gallagher’s TV in Brielle for 37 years before retiring in 1995. He worked prior with his dad for 20 years at PJ Gallagher & Sons, in Point Pleasant.

He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie [nee Mahoney]; three sons, Richard, of East Brunswick, James, of Neptune City, and Patrick, of New York City; two daughters, Kathi Homenick, of Bayside, Queens, and Lynne Gallagher, of Manasquan; and four grandchildren, Kathy, Megan, Christopher and Kelly.

Cremation service was private.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bankston T. Brooman
Manasquan resident Bankston “Banks” T. Brooman went peacefully home to the Lord on April 1.

He was 98 years old.

Born and raised in Union City, Banks was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

Banks, along with Hildie and son, David, were partners and owners of the Surf and Sand Restaurant, Manasquan, for 25 years, which was a favorite summer gathering place.

In the winter months, he was a commercial real estate agent. Banks retired in 1982 and spent many winters in Sarasota, Fla. and summers at his home in Manasquan.

Banks was educated at Emerson High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He previously owned the “College Club, ” a pub in North Jersey, and “The Village Meat Market, ” in Fairlawn, where he was a butcher.

He enjoyed his work, and had a positive and joyful attitude about life.

He was always interested in politics and current events, and was a legislative aide to Senator Al Keefer. He and his wife were active members of the Elks Lodge in Manasquan where for many years he planted and maintained the flowers. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Hildie, and two sons, Bankston Brooman and William Brooman.

He is survived by his loving family, daughters, Nancy Bellia and her husband, Richard, of Wall, and Leslie Barlow and her husband, Stephen, of Sea Girt; his son, David J. Brooman and his wife, Gardenia, of Ardmore, Pa.; his grandchildren, Michelle Chapman, of Wall, Danielle Hopta, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Cynthia Rumpf, of Point Pleasant, Jennifer Costanzo and her husband, Eric, of Wall, Stephanie Peduto and her husband, Eric, of Wall, Stephen Barlow and his wife, Leanne, of Wannamassa, Thomas Barlow and Christian Barlow, of Wall, David, Richard, Kyle and Luke Brooman, of Ardmore, Pa.; and, his great-grandchildren, Katie and Kevin Chapman, of Wall, Joey Sanguine, of Point Pleasant, Dylan, Christopher and Madison Costanzo, of Wall, and Ava and Massimo Peduto, of Wall.

A memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Route 71, in Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in Banks’ name to one of his favorite charities: Deborah Hospital Foundation, National Headquarters, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mills, 08015 or The Support Center for Child Advocates, 1900 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.
