John Barry
Spring Lake Heights and Vero Beach, Fla. resident John Daniel Barry died on Sunday, March 23 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 83 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Rockville Centre, N.Y. before coming to Spring Lake Heights 12 years ago.
Mr. Barry was a restaurateur. He began his career at Barry’s Bar and Restaurant in Brooklyn, which he took over from his father in the 1960s and operated until 1989. His father had opened Barry’s in 1929 upon emigrating from County Mayo, Ireland. John then went on to open Peppercorn in Queens Village, N.Y. and Windjammer in Bellmore, N.Y. before retiring.
He was a former parishioner of St. Agnes Church in Rockville Centre and was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, in Spring Lake. He was also a resident golf club member at Fairway Mews in Spring Lake Heights.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Patricia Waldron Barry.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Barry, his sons, Jack, Kevin and Richard Barry and his grandchildren, Kevin, Grayson, Taylor, Shauna and Luke. He also leaves his brother, Michael Joseph Barry and his sisters, Eileen Smaldone and Anita Barry.
A Mass will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.
Committal will be private.

Shirley Hulse
Toms River resident Shirley Morton Hulse, died on Sunday, March 23 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Neptune, she grew up in Manasquan and lived in Point Pleasant, before moving to Toms River 10 years ago.
She was 73 years old.
Mrs. Hulse was a school bus driver for Farrell Transportation, Point Pleasant Beach, for five years. She worked prior at Point Pleasant Hospital for many years. She was a member of Island Beach Civic Association in Toms River.
Mrs. Hulse was predeceased by her husband, Dave.
She is survived by two sons, James Fricks, of Astoria, Queens, N.Y., and Scott Fricks, of Beachwood; one daughter, Deborah Bertani, of Toms River; one brother, Malden Morton, of Brick; and one sister, Virginia Harker, of Toms River. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Farmingdale, on Saturday, March 29, at 3 p.m.
Cremation was private.

Josephine Dull
Wall resident Josephine Dull died on Wednesday, March 19 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 91 years old.
She was a loving mother and devoted stay-at-home wife of John F. Dull Sr., also of Wall Township.
She was born in Greenwich Village, N.Y. and resided in Astoria, N.Y. before moving to New Jersey 26 years ago.
She was predeceased by her mother, Lillian Norrito, and her father, Nicolas “Coco” Norrito.
Surviving is her loving husband of 75 years, John F. Dull Sr.; her daughters, Joan Seiter, of Bethpage, N.Y., and Lillian C. Granger, of Hazlet; her son, John F. Dull Jr., East Brunswick; grandchildren, Denise, Karen, Kerren, Richard, Kristin, Jennifer, Brad and Melissa, and six great-grandchildren.
Entombment was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Constance G. Monte
Brick resident Constance G. “Connie” Monte, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died on Saturday, March 22 at her home.
She was 75 years old.
Born in Irvington, she raised her family in Spring Lake Heights before retiring to Brick. Connie dedicated her life to being a wife, mother and grandmother. She had a unique and wonderful sense of humor, loved gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband William J. Monte.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Monte, Kathleen Vazquez and Linda Masella; her sons, Luke and Joe Monte; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Michael, Paul, Rachel, Luke, Conor, Jake, Jessie, Jeremiah, Jennie, Taylor, Alex, Davis, Logan, Tucker, Kate, Matt and Kelly.
Visiting will be held today at the O’Brien Funeral Home Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, from 4-8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Committal will follow at a later date in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.
Rose P. McCartney
Brick resident Rose P. [nee Mazza] McCartney died on Saturday, March 22 at Sunnyside Manor, in Wall. She leaves behind many loved ones, including her daughter, of Manasquan.
She was 85 years old.
Born in Newark, she lived in East Orange and Bloomfield, before moving to Brick in 1999.
Mrs. McCartney was a librarian for the Defense Contract Administration Services, in Newark and Springfield, for 42 years before retiring in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly McCartney Ginglen, of Manasquan; two cousins, Fortunata Raniero, of Bloomfield and Annette Venturo, of Roselle Park; and her very good friend, Jean Graziano, of Brick.
Entombment was held in Holy Cross Cemetery, in North Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dorothy Gosdoski
Brick resident Dorothy Irene “Honey” Gosdoski passed away on Thursday, March 20 at home. She leaves behind many loved ones, including her daughter and son-in-law, of Wall.
She was 79 years old.
She was born in Scranton, Pa. and raised in Blakeslee, Pa. She lived in Elizabeth and Union before moving to Brick in 1995. She graduated from Pocono Pines High School and attended Empire Beauty School in Scranton. She also attended Jersey City State College for a teaching degree in cosmetology. She worked for many years as a cosmetologist in several salons and then went to teach at Emiliani School in Union. She enjoyed her family, the beach, ceramics and traveling. She was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Church, Brick.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1998, six brothers, William, Jack, Joseph, Eugene, George and Robert, and a sister, Elizabeth.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Harry, and two grandchildren, Christian and Paige. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Beatrice and John Russup, of Allentown, Pa., and Ruth and Edward Barthold, of Dickson City, Pa.; two brothers, Clarence “Tommy, ” of Scranton, and Ronald, of Mt. Cobb, Pa.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Lerner and his staff for all their caring treatment and also to Meridian Hospice for all their care and compassion.

Catherine Quigley
Bradley Beach resident Catherine E. O’Brien Quigley, formerly of Roselle, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 21, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 82 years old.
Catherine was born in Elizabeth. She attended St. Joseph’s School, Roselle and Holy Family Academy, Bayonne. She was a member of the Mother’s Club, Ascension Church Rosary Society and Bradley Beach Food Pantry. Her Irish eyes were always smiling and she had a kind word for everyone she met. Catherine loved everything Irish, the N.Y. Mets, and Old Blue Eyes, and was the first person on the dance floor and the last one off. The love of her life was her husband, Leo, her seven children, 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Elizabeth O'Brien, and sister Ethel Burns.
She is survived by her husband, Leo, of 61 years; her seven children, Leo, of Belmar, Joseph and Barbara, of Cranford, Maureen Flumerfelt, of Manasquan, James and Carmen, of Fair Haven, John and Luann, of Manasquan, Dennis and Lauren, of Madison, and Bill and Karen, of Clark; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Demchek; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gigl, Kathleen Hayser, Mary Murphy, Anne Quigley and Peggy Quigley; a cousin, Mary Ann Kinsella; and many nieces and nephews, as well as a great many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach.
Burial
will follow at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
