Andrew J. Gallagher
Belmar resident Andrew J. Gallagher died on Wednesday, March in at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 79 years old.
Born and raised in Bayonne, he was a graduate of Holy Family Academy in Bayonne and Seton Hall University. Mr. Gallagher served as a teacher with the Union City Board of Education for 38 years before retiring.
He and his family had spent their summers at the Jersey Shore before coming to Belmar permanently in 1968. He became very active in the Belmar community. He served on the Belmar Board of Education for 14 years during which he sat as chairman, and was elected councilman in 1995, an office that he held until retiring in 2004.
During his tenure he had also sat as council president. In 2005, he was appointed deputy mayor for senior affairs for his longtime commitment to improving recreational and other service programs for seniors not only in Belmar, but also the surrounding communities.
Mr. Gallagher was one of the original organizers of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, served as parade committee treasurer and had been named grand marshal. Other organizations that Mr. Gallagher devoted his time and energy to are the Belmar Elks Lodge No. 1997, the Knights of Columbus in Bayonne, the Jerry Lynch Social and Civic Club, where he sat as president for 20 years, and the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh Jersey Shore Chapter, where he was one of the earliest members.
He was a member of the Belmar Chamber of Commerce since its inception. He, along with his wife, have been the owners of Gallagher’s Guest House in Belmar for over 30 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Naval Hospital Corps.
Andrew was one of the finest gentleman from the “old school, ” where a gentleman was a gentleman. His honesty and integrity have earned him the reputation of being a totally sincere man. His family is deeply devoted to him and have been proud to have him as their husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Lois T. Petronick Gallagher; his daughter, Natalie Mary Gallagher; and his loving grandchildren, Andrew Francis Hurley and Blake Kristen Hurley. He also leaves several nieces and a nephew and was predeceased by parents, Andrew and Mary Thompson Gallagher, and his brother, Jack C. Gallagher.
Entombment was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

William Carlone Sr.
Wall resident William J. Carlone Sr. died on Monday, March 10 in Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown.
Mr. Carlone was born in Chatham on April 30, 1921. Bill graduated from Chatham High School in 1940 and attended Washington State College, in Pulman, Wash.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II where he served as a radio operator and gunner on the B24.
Bill was a salesman for 28 years with the Trenton Beverage and Premier Beer Company. He worked for his brother Al’s construction company as a superintendent of construction. Bill was a fireman in Red Bank in 1950 serving as a lieutenant, captain president and exempt life member.
He started his officiating career 1953 as a basketball official with Board 34 of Camden. He was secretary and cadet supervisor of the Shore Chapter 34 Board, secretary of the Treasure Board 34 Chapter from 1953 to 1961, and secretary of the Treasurer Board Chapter 194 from 1961 to 1983. He also was Cadet supervisor of Board 194 IAABO for 23 years, executive committee member of 194 for 26 years, IAABO Rules committee three times, examination committee three times, Board Policy committee once, constitution and by-laws two times, president of 194 IAABO in 1983, and Chairmen of NJ State Council of basketball boards from 1961 to 1962. He served for 17 years as chairman of the National Federation on Awards Committee.
He received the Achievement Award from the NJSIAA in 1984, Achievement Award from the IAABO headquarters and was an IAABO life member since 1992. He was a charter member of the National Federation Officials Association, and was observer in basketball for the NJSIAA for 13 years up until his passing.
Bill’s most proud moment was in 1959 he was the founder father of the Jersey Shore Charter in 1961 from IAABO and NJSIAA. Bill officiated 10 state basketball finals, 12 Shore Conference Championships, and officiated Junior College and Service Ball.
In football, he worked the first Pop Warner football game at the Jersey Shore, and worked 43 years of officiating football including nine state finals and was a member of the NJFOA.
In baseball, he founded the Shore Umpires Association in 1968 and previously was a member of the NJSUA Association. He was the first president of the Shore Umpires Association and served 30 years on the executive committee of the SUA, officiated 11 state finals and umpired the Jersey Shore League for 43 years. Bill worked in the American League in Professional Baseball as an umpire and also in the pro senior league in Florida from 1989 to 1990. He received the Jim Sullivan Award in Basketball, The Bill Kunkel Award in Baseball and in 2004 he won the Monmouth County Achievement Award in Monmouth Baseball and was inducted to the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame.
He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Mary Louise Carlone; brothers, Joseph, Carl, Anthony and Albert; sisters, Mary, Laura and twin sister, Clara.
Surviving are his sons, Bill Jr., of Tinton Falls, Robert, of Canada; a daughter, Cindy, also of Tinton Falls; a sister, Eleanor, of Palmer, Pa.; a brother, Mario, of Deland, Fla.; and five grandsons, Matthew, David, Chris, Eli and David. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.
The service will be held at the conclusion of the evening visitation at 8:30 p.m.
Interment will be held privately at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.

Agnes Keim
Neptune resident Agnes E. Murphy Keim died on Saturday, March 8 in the Tower Lodge Care Center of Wall Township. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall and Bradley Beach.
She was 83 years old.
Born in Keyport, Mrs. Keim remained a lifelong resident of the Shore area. She was employed with Bendix of Eatontown in the tube department from 1953 until 1963.
Mrs. Keim was predeceased by her parents, Frank Murphy and Elizabeth Ludvigsen Murphy.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 53 years, David H. Keim of Neptune; her loving children, Douglas David Keim, of Point Pleasant, Michael Murphy Keim and his wife, Ria, of Wall, and Patricia Elizabeth Montgomery, of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township; a brother, Frank Murphy, of Bradley Beach; and her twin sister, Winifred Van Brunt, of Toms River. Also surviving are her three very special grandchildren Mike, Kelly and Shannon.
Entombment was held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Route 33, Tinton Falls.

Dorothy Blair
Manasquan resident Dorothy Stults Blair died peacefully on Friday, March 7, after a brief stay in Sunnyside Manor, Wall Township.
She was 101 years old.
Dorothy spent her summers in Manasquan from 1929, before moving permanently in 1952. Born to Albert H. and Eudora Mount Stults, Prospect Plains, she was the eldest of five children. Dorothy graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1925 and received her teaching degree from Millersville State University of Pennsylvania in 1927. Dorothy taught first grade at Millersville Elementary in the 1930s. It was during this time she met and later married
Samuel Y. Blair in 1938.
Upon moving to Manasquan, Dorothy taught kindergarten at Manasquan Elementary from 1952 until her retirement in 1968. Dorothy was active in many local clubs and organizations including the Manasquan Woman’s Club, The Republican Club, The D.A.R., The Eastern Star, Manasquan Elks and the Manasquan River Yacht Club.
After retirement she spent many years volunteering at the Point Pleasant Hospital. Dorothy was a fixture on Pompano Beach, Manasquan, rarely missing a day. She also enjoyed dancing and bowling with her husband and together they loved to entertain their many friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sam, in 1984. She had survived all her siblings, Marjorie Weisert, Manasquan, Wallace Stults, Trenton, John Stults, Hagerstown, Md. and Evelyn Stults, Jamesburg. She was also predeceased by her grandson, David Jenkins.
She is survived by her loving and caring daughter, Lois Jenkins, Manasquan; many nieces and nephews throughout the country; her grandson Sam and his wife, Kay, Manasquan; and her great-grandchildren Michael, Sara, Samantha and Brooke.
Interment will be held today in Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury, at 11 a.m.

Concetta Labate
Spring Lake resident Concetta Labate passed away on Monday, March 10 in her home.
She was 85 years old.
Connie was born and raised in Philadelphia and lived in the area most of her life before moving to Spring Lake 15 years ago.
Mrs. Labate was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, where she served as an offering counter.
She was a volunteer at the VNA Thrift Shop in Manasquan, a member of the Spring Lake Women’s Club and also a Platoon Leader of the Battle of the Bulge Veterans Group.
She was predeceased by her son, Peter J. Labate, in 1985; and her husband, Francis Labate, in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara E. Van Belle, Spring Lake Heights; her sister, Josephine Debenedetto, of Philadelphia; her daughter-in-law, Josephine Campo, of Nevada; her grandchildren, Lori Greenstein, Jacqueline Van Belle and Brian Van Belle; and great-grandson, Nicholas.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Catholic Church, Spring Lake.
Interment will follow in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, Pa.
Bette Maypother
Wall and Deerfield Beach, Fla. resident Bette Maypother died on Friday, Feb. 29 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 80 years old.
Mrs. Maypother was a librarian at St. Rose Grammar School in Belmar before retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Rose Rosary Alter Society and the St. Rose PTA, at both the grammar school and high school.
Bette was born in Lansford, Pa. and lived in Jersey City and Belmar before moving to Wall and Deerfield Beach, Fla.
She was predeceased by her brother, John J. Koshuta, in 2007, her sister, Irene Thiel, in 2006 and by her sister-in-law, Alice Tierney.
Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, Edward A. Maypother Jr.; her son, Edward A. Maypother III and his wife, , Maureen, of Wall; her daughter, Karen Maypother Landers and her husband, Peter A., also of Wall; sisters, Martha Petruzzi, of Wall, Helen Mahler, of Highlands, Mary Koshuta, of Lakewood, Dorothy Kruse, of Colts Neck, Marjorie Koshuta, of Manchester; and a sister-in-law, Joan McArdle, of Gaithersburg, Md. She also leaves six grandchildren, Peter and Kristofer Landers and Shane, Riley, Brody and Logan Maypother; 14 nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.
