Peter J. Farnsworth, Esq.
Point Pleasant resident Peter J. Farnsworth, Esq. died Friday, Feb. 1 in his home.

He was 59 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, to the late, the Rev. Hugh M. and Eledy Farnsworth, he was raised in Point Pleasant Beach where he lived until he moved to Point Pleasant.

During his teenage years, he worked at the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk and in high school was a member of the track team and band.

Pete was a graduated of Point Pleasant Beach High School, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and Seton Hall Law School, Newark.

A practicing attorney for 35 years, he was a partner in the law firm Madnick, Milstein, Mason, Weber, Farnsworth, and Collazo, in both Neptune and Brick. He was admitted and qualified as an attorney and counselor of the U. S. Supreme Court and all courts in New Jersey and also was a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association.

Pete was a talented musician and was a member to the Ocean County College Concert Band. An avid writer, authoring his own novel, Pete was also a collector of vintage postcards of the Jersey Shore. He enjoyed bicycle riding and was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

A proud and shining moment in his life was the graduation of his daughter, Rachel, from Princeton University.

Beloved by and devoted to his family, he was predeceased by his daughter, Emily.

Surviving are his wife, of 28 years, Maria Garma Farnsworth; his daughter, Rachael Farnsworth, of Point Pleasant; his mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Phyllis Garma and Art Hirshfeld; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Lauri Garma; two nieces, Kimberly and Danielle; a nephew, A.J.; and many numerous professional colleagues and dear friends.

On Saturday, at 1 p.m., a service of remembrance will be held at the St. Mary’s By-the Sea Episcopal Church, Bay and Atlantic Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions made to the Peter J. Farnsworth Scholarship, c/o Point Pleasant Borough High School, Laura Herbert Drive, Point Pleasant, 08742, are suggested.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant [732-899-3300] is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Golaszewski
Somerset resident Helen Golaszewski, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at her home.

She was 91 years old.

Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed on to her heavenly reward surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in South River, she resided in Somerset for over 50 years and was predeceased by her husband, Stephan, in 2003.

Mrs. Golaszewski was a devoted homemaker all of her life and had a passion for gardening. The Golaszewski family was widely known for the sweet corn and produce they grew over the years.

Helen was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, South Bound Brook.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Monsignor Steve Dabkowski, Matthew Dabkowski and Edward Dabkowski; her sisters, Virginia Stpokowicz, Jenny Sempkowski, and Laura Kulesa; and her beloved grandson, Stephen Golaszewski Jr.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Stephen Golaszewski, of Point Pleasant; her daughters, Dee Golaszewski and her husband, Michael Connolly, of Fair Haven, and Linda Gardner and her husband, Michael Scanlon, of Ashford, Conn.; her three grandchildren, Debi Golaszewski, Jonathan Golaszewski and Nichole Gardner; and her six great-grandchildren.

Interment took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. The Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville, handled the arrangements.

Steve Neues
Point Pleasant resident Steve Neues died Friday, Feb. 1, at his home.

He was 47 years old.

Steve was born in Jersey City and lived in Jackson before moving to Point Pleasant 15 years ago.

A graduate of Jackson Memorial High School in 1979, he received his bachelor’s degree from Glassboro State College and master’s degree from Jersey City State College.

He was employed for many years as a high school guidance counselor with the Jackson Township Board of Education, where he coached football, wrestling and softball. More recently, he was employed with Marlboro High School in the Freehold Regional School District.

You could find Steve in the summer working as a lifeguard, where he started his career with the Seaside Heights Beach Patrol, Fort Lauderdale Beach Patrol and the last 21 years as lieutenant of the Seaside Park Beach Patrol.

He was a parishioner of St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Rosemary Neues, in 2006.

He is survived by his father, Harry Neues, of Jackson; a sister, Kate Neues Thompson; his niece, Sara Thompson; and his nephew, Douglas “Jack” Thompson, all of Jackson. He is also survived by his wife, Jeanann Early-Neues, of Point Pleasant, along with several other nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many loving friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road at Highway 70, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Seaside Park Lifeguard Association, c/o J. Gomulka, 109 Dayton Ave., Toms River, 08753.

Richard P. Hatfield
The Villages, Fla. resident Richard P. Hatfield, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Wednesday, Jan. 2 in his home.

He was 76 years old.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.

Dick led the Scotch Plains GOP form 1966 to 1985. He was also vice chairman of the Union County GOP from 1974 to 1978.

He was a member of numerous county and state organizations and was elected Union County Register of Deeds and Mortgages in 1978. He was a member of the New Jersey State Republican Committee and was a delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1980 and 1988.

His father, Richard P. Hatfield, was a former mayor of Fanwood and a Union County Freeholder in the 1950s. His grandfather had also been a Union County Freeholder.

Dick was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Weldon Hatfield, who died in 2006 at the age of 99.

Upon his retirement from the State Department of Human Services, Dick moved to Point Pleasant Beach where he was a member of the Republican Club and served on the board of adjustment. He moved to Florida in 2001.

For the past 25 years Dick was an active member of the American Political Items Collector Club [APIC], traveling across the country to attend APIC conventions. He accumulated a huge collection of buttons, pins, and political memorabilia.

Dick was a graduate of Scotch Plains High School and Blair Academy, where he played football and basketball. He also attended Wesleyan University, in Connecticut.

Dick is survived by two children, Elizabeth Ann [Betsy], of Scotch Plains, and James [Jimmy], of Tinton Falls; their mother, Patricia Grady Hatfield, of Scotch Plains, and a grandson, James. He is also survived by three brothers, Roger, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., John, of The Villages, Fla. and David, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; as well as his companion, Barbara Foster, of The Villages, Fla.

A memorial service will be held in Scotch Plains in early summer. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood. For additional information or to express condolences, please visit www.fanwoodmemorial.com.

Louis M. Lambusta
Point Pleasant resident Louis M. Lambusta died Wednesday, Jan. 30, in his home.

He was 82 years old.

He was a salesman for Coca Cola Co., Newark for many years, retiring in 1980.

He served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II and attained the rank of carpenter’s mate third class.

He was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.

Louis was a kind, decent and loving man. Born in Newark, he lived in Ocean Township before moving to Point Pleasant 22 years ago.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Malaspina Lambusta, in March 2007.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. Louis M. Lambusta Jr, . of Point Pleasant, and Robert Lambusta, of Brick; four grandchildren, Stephanie M., Torey M., Robert C. and Jeffrey L.; and many nieces and nephews.

The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, handled the arrangements. Burial took place in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

The family has requested that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, 07834-1365, in memory of Louis.

Wilfrid J. Mansfield
Point Pleasant resident Wilfrid J. Mansfield died Sunday, Jan. 27, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 78 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Duffy Mansfield; two sons, Colin Mansfield, of Old Bridge, and Charles Mansfield, of Brick; a daughter, Cynthia; and a sister, Carolyn Doster, of Asbury Park.

Arrangements were private. Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements.

Frank Rodrigo
Lavallette resident Frank Rodrigo died Friday, Feb. 1 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.

He was 86 years old.

He was born and raised in Bound Brook, and lived in Manhattan before moving permanently to Lavallette six years ago.

He was a modest veteran of World War II, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery.

He was employed for 50 years as a garment cutter in New York City, retiring in 1989 from Russ Togs Inc. in New York City.

He enjoyed carving wood, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was an avid New York Giants fan. He was a positive gentleman who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Mary Laureda Rodrigo, in 2004.

He is survived by two sons, Frank, of Lavallette, and Richard, of Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Kathryn Kraemer and her husband, Richard, of Brick; a brother, Paul, of Harrisburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Richard, Kelly and Ricky; and many nieces and nephews.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, handled the arrangements.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his honor to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, 1 Intrepid Square, West 46th St. and 12th Ave., New York, NY 10036.
