Rosemary Berzins
Wall Township resident Rosemary “Joan” [nee Keleher] Berzins died Thursday, Jan. 10 in her home.
She was 73 years old.
Rosemary was born in Jersey City, and lived in Secaucus and Brick Township, before moving to Wall Township 45 years ago.
She was employed as a loan officer for Sovereign Savings Bank until her retirement in 2001.
Rosemary was an avid member of The Red Hat Society and a member of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, located in Wall.
Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, William and Rosemary [nee Harrison] Keleher, and her beloved husband, Osvalds Berzins, in 1984.
She is survived by one son, David Berzins, of Tinton Falls; two brothers, Robert and his wife, Sherry Keleher, of Little Egg Harbor and William and his wife, Kathy Keleher, of Brick Township. She was also the loving grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters, Rebecca and Brianna Berzins.
The Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary E. Busch
Mount Vernon, N.Y. resident Mary E. Busch, formerly of Spring Lake, died on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1917 and was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the only child of John F. McKenna, the owner of the McKenna Lumber Company and president of the old Kingsboro Savings Bank, and his wife, the former Elizabeth Farrell.
She attended St. Anselm’s School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and then Marymount Academy and Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. She possessed rare artistic talent, being able to paint well in watercolor, pastel and charcoal.
She was married
in 1941 to James B. Donovan, a New York attorney, who negotiated successfully in 1962 for the release of U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers from the Soviet Union and of the 1, 350 Bay of Pigs prisoners from Cuba. They lived in Bay Ridge and then Park Slope, Brooklyn, until Mr. Donovan died in 1970, often vacationing at the Lake Placid Club in the Adirondacks.
In 1972, she married
Navy Capt. Thomas O’Connor, an executive at the old New York Telephone Company, and they were together until his death in 1984, living in Spring Lake where they belonged to the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club and the Spring Lake Golf Club.
In 1986, she was married
to Herbert H. Busch, a retired jewelry and real estate executive, and they were together in Spring Lake until his death in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan [Mrs. Edward L.] Amorosi, of Manhattan and Mary Ellen Fuller [Mrs. David Fletcher], of South Carolina; a son, John B. Donovan, of Larchmont, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Georgia B. [Mrs. Foster] Nostrand, of Stamford, Conn.; a stepson, Roger L. Busch, of Greenwich, Conn.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Interment was held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Lake Placid, N.Y.

Courtney Butkus
Manasquan resident Courtney Leigh Butkus died on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Ocean County Medical Center, Brick.
She was 39 years old.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she lived in Summit, before moving to Manasquan 10 years ago.
Mrs. Butkus was a homemaker. She was a senior technical writer for Lucent Technologies, in Bedminster, and was a President Awards winner at Lucent Technologies.
She was a member of the Eagle Oaks Golf Course in Farmingdale. Courtney was a loving wife, mother, sister and daughter.
Mrs. Butkus is survived by her husband, David; one son, Luke and two daughters, Anneke and Katherine, all at home; her mother, Dorothy Holmgren, of Point Pleasant; two brothers, Matthew Kmosko, of Palm Beach, Fla. and Erik Holmgren, of Point Pleasant; one sister, Cassandra Holmgren, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held today at the Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan, at 4:30 p.m.
Cremation was private.
Family will be receiving friends and relatives at the funeral home prior to the service from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

David Jenkins
Manasquan resident David Jenkins died Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna, Fla., surrounded by his loving family.
He was 46 years old.
Dave was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, a place he truly loved.
Growing up in Manasquan, Dave was never happier than when he was playing baseball, and later, umpiring for various levels of little league. Throughout his life he would compare life’s moments to that of the game he loved.
He also enjoyed fishing and taking part in the family bait and tackle business for more summers than one can remember.
Dave’s hard work ethic followed him into his professional life, where he dedicated more than 20 years to the swimming pool industry working his way up to branch manager. Of all his accomplishments, he was proudest of all his friendships and lifelong relationships. Dave touched more people through his generosity and kindness than he could ever know and his presence will be sorely missed.
David was predeceased by his grandfather, Samuel Y. Blair, and his father, Frank Jenkins.
David is survived by his grandmother, Dorothy Blair; his loving mother, Lois Jenkins, both of Manasquan; his wife of 20 years, Debbie Jenkins; his most beloved daughter, Sara Jenkins, both of Brick; his brother, Sam Jenkins, and his wife, Kay; and his nephew Michael and nieces Samantha and Brooke.
At the family’s request, any donations in the memory of David Jenkins can graciously be sent to the Manasquan Brielle Little League, P. O. Box 42, Manasquan.

Lucy Forcella
Spring Lake resident since 1953, Lucy Forcella, died on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Kensington Manor, Toms River.
She was born in Newark. She graduated from St. Catharine’s Elementary School, Spring Lake, St. Rose High School, Belmar, Georgian Court University, Lakewood, and received her master’s degree at Monmouth University, West Long Branch.
She was a communicant of St. Catharine-St.Margaret Parish, Spring Lake, and greatly enjoyed serving God and her parish as a eucharistic minister and a lector, and she was very involved with the homebound ministry and the social concerns committee, as well as the RCIA.
She was always a force of good and charitable works, and no matter what health problems she had throughout her life, she carried on with grace and a smile for everyone.
She was a first-grade teacher at the Switlik Elementary School, Jackson Township, for 38 years, and the Crawford-Rodriquez School, Jackson Township, for one year. She was also on the executive board of the Jackson Township Education Association.
Lucy spent the past six years of her life living with her sister, Anne, and her husband, Joe Skalitza, and her two nephews, Matthew J. and Michael J. Skalitza, in their Spring Lake residence. She was considered an integral and beloved part of their family and she will be deeply missed by them and all of her family.
Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Gus Forcella and Frances Forcella, and her sister, Joyce Forcella.
She is survived by her sisters Bernadette Zagrodny, Judy Barber and Anne Skalitza; her brothers-in-law Mike Zagrodny, Tom Barber and Joe Skalitza; and her nieces and nephews Chris Zagrodny, Karen Zagrodny Consalo and her husband, Marc Consalo, Steven Zagrodny, Amanda Zagrodny and her fiance, Jeff Chamberlain, Rebecca Barber Portante and her husband, Eric Portante, Heather Barber, Matthew J. Skalitza and Michael J. Skalitza. She is also survived by her great-nephew, Andy Consalo, and by her aunt, Gloria Bongo and many cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
In her unending desire to help others, Lucy requested that her body be donated to science. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, 215 Essex Ave. Spring Lake.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad, Washington Ave, Spring Lake, 07762, in her name.
Lily Singley
Wall resident Lily Singley died Monday, Jan. 14 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 84 years old.
She resided in Wall for the last 20 years, formerly of Jersey City. She was born and raised in Leeds, England and served as a member of the British Land Army during World War II.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mrs. Singley was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Mary Ellen Flanagan; and her sister, Nellie Bean, all from Leeds, England.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, William Earl Singley, of Wall; her daughters, Elizabeth Golden, of Shirley, N.Y., Mary Theresa Neugebauer, of Wall; a son, Kevin Singley, of Point Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Andrea, Allison, Dave, Chris, Ryan, Amanda, Craig and Brianna; and five great-grandchildren, Tim, Lillyanna, Lily, Molly and Moses.
Not a moment will go by that we will not miss her loving angelic ways.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 18 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan.
A Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Church, Manasquan, on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9:30 a.m.
Entombment will follow at Atlantic View Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a Mass be celebrated in honor of Lily’s name.
Ruth C. Giunco
Belmar resident Ruth C. Giunco passed away at home on Dec. 30.
She was 91 years old.
She was the wife of John Giunco Jr. who died in 1992.
Mrs. Giunco was born on Nov. 3, 1916, in Jersey City, the fifth child of 11 born to Dominic and Mary Donovan Palumbo. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Belmar. She attended St. Rose School and graduated from Asbury Park High School, Class of 1935.
She was a lifelong member of St. Rose Church and was active for many years in the choir and the Altar and Rosary Society. Besides her family, her home and her church, she had many interests which she shared with her daughters. She loved to read and to increase her vocabulary. She also loved the Spanish language, music and the dramatic arts. She was a talented artist and also enjoyed embroidery, knitting and fine sewing.
Mrs. Giunco is survived by four daughters, Marylou Varrone and her husband, Fiore, of Waterbury, Conn., Jeanne M. Giunco SSJ, of Flourtown, Pa., Jo Ann Ali of Wall and Kelley [Ruth] Walrath and her husband, AJ, of Belleview, Fla.
She will be sorely misses by her seven grandchildren, Maria Ali Lindenfeldar and her husband, Russell, Karen Ali McHugh and her husband, Brendan, Guillermo Porras and his wife, Michelle, Robert, Gary, Anneliese and Marissa Walrath; and her six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Grace Tassini, of Freehold, Estelle Palumbo, of Phoenix, Ariz., Geraldine [Jean] O’Shea and her husband, Patrick, of Boynton Beach, Fla. and Dolores Fenton and her husband, John, also of Boynton Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband of 54 years, Ruth was predeceased by two infant siblings, Loretta and Daniel Palumbo; sisters Anna Marsland and Eleanor Catalano; and brothers Bartholomew and Harold Palumbo.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be offered today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Church, Seventh Avenue, Belmar. Interment
will be held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Rose Church and school will be greatly appreciated.
