Blanche Szymanski Kosiakowski
Point Pleasant Beach resident Blanche Szymanski Kosiakowski died Monday, Dec. 3, in Claremont Care Center.
She was 92 years old.
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Toms River before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1978.
She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Kosiakowski, in 1994.
She is survived by a daughter, Arlene Tais, of Mahwah; a son, A. Laurence Moreau, of Point Pleasant Beach; a brother, Mitchell Szymanski, of Toms River; two sisters, Regina Mruz and Wanda Hvizdak, both of Westfield; a granddaughter, Catherine McNerney; a grandson, John Tais; a great-grandson, Kevin McNerney; and a great-granddaughter, Julia McNerney.
The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, handled the arrangements. Burial
took place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Agnes M. Chappell
Point Pleasant Beach resident Agnes M. Chappell died Thursday, Nov. 29 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 86 years old.
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Point Pleasant from 1977 to 1994, when she moved to Point Pleasant Beach.
She was a homemaker, and was a member and eucharistic minister at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach. She was also a member of the Tuesday morning circle of love prayer group and a daily communicant and member of the Altar Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. Chappell in 2002; and two sisters, Elizabeth Klumpp and Margaret Roggenstein.
She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Narcisi and her husband, Vince, of Point Pleasant Beach; and three grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Dominick.
The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach handled the arrangements. Entombment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Alvin Raymond “Al” Farrington
Oriental, N.C. resident Alvin Raymond “Al” Farrington, whose daughters live in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Nov. 24 in his home.
He was 76 years old.
He is survived by a son, Ricky Farrington, of Beachwood; three daughters, Cheryl Mitchell, of Point Pleasant, Lauren Farrington, of Webberville, Texas, and Tracy Laughinghouse, of Point Pleasant; three brothers, William Farrington, of Williamston, James Farrington, of Toms River, and John Farrington, of Florida; a sister, Janet Clayton, , of Toms River; a loving friend, Mary Spruill, of Oriental, N.C.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home and Cremations, Alliance, N.C. Committal will be in Point Pleasant at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Hospice of Pamlico, P. O. Box 959, Bayboro, NC 28515.
John F. Fredo Sr.
Hillside resident John F. Fredo Sr., whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Nov. 29 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 87 years old.
John was the owner/operator of J. Fredo Industrial Refuse Removal, Hillside, for 30 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a charter member of the Italian American Civic Association and a former member of the Hillside Elks. John was a communicant of Christ the King Church and a World War II Army veteran.
He was predeceased by his wife, Julie Fredo.
Surviving are a daughter, Marlene and her husband, Jim Yakes; a son, John F. Fredo Jr. and his wife, Mary; a sister, Dolores Ciotto and her husband, Pete; a brother, Carmen Goffredo and his wife, Hope; five grandchildren, Jamie and his wife, Nadine, Christopher and Julie Yakes, John F. III and Elizabeth Fredo; and a great-grandchild, Victoria Yakes.
The Growney Funeral Home, Hillside handled the arrangements. Interment
took place in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
Ann Sherwood Glenck
Point Pleasant resident Ann Sherwood Glenck died Saturday, Dec. 1 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 91 years old.
She was born in Belleville where she lived until moving to Brick and later Point Pleasant.
A homemaker, Mrs. Glenck was predeceased by her husband, William.
She is survived by her son, William Glenck, two daughters, Nancy Simone and Barbara Rush; and four grandchildren, Philip Negra, Sarah Mucci, David Negra and Patrick McKendrick.
A private cremation was planned through The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.
Edith Farina
Lake Como resident Edith Farina, formerly of Newark, died on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
She was 92 years old.
Edith was born, raised and educated in Newark. Since attending Barringer High School, she was a homemaker. She relocated in the 1960s to Lake Como, where she enjoyed the Jersey Shore, as well as the views of Lake Como.
She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Margaret [Maino] Farina; her brothers, Salvatore, Joseph, Michael, Edward and Louis Farina Jr.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sophie Farina; her niece, Barbara [Farina] and her husband, Leo Giangiulio; her nephew, Michael P. Farina and his wife, Carol; their son, Vincent Farina; their daughter, Michelle Serra and her children, Lindsey and David Serra.
At her request, all services were private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to either the Monmouth County SPCA or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of the McDonough Funeral Home, Manasquan.
Mary Ellen Ballou
Wall resident Mary Ellen Ballou, formerly of Sea Girt, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital.
She was 79 years old.
Born in Mineola, N.Y., she had lived in Portsmouth, Va., and then in Sea Girt, for many years before moving to Four Seasons at Wall several years ago.
Mrs. Ballou had received her B.A. from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and then received her MLS from Columbia University, N.Y., N.Y. She had been employed as a researcher and copywriter at Batten Barton, Durstine, & Osborn, N.Y., N.Y. and later as the librarian at the G. Harold Antrim School, Point Pleasant Beach.
A very active woman, Mary Ellen had been the president of the Jersey Shore Alumnae Association of Trinity College and the vice president of the Trinity College Alumnae Association. Since moving to Sea Girt, she had been the president of the Sea Girt Real Estate Owners, and had served her community as a councilwoman of Sea Girt Borough, a member of the Planning Board of Sea Girt, and had served as the president of the Sea Girt Woman’s Club. She was also a member of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt and had served on the Parish Council.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert A. Ballou, in June 1985.
Surviving are her four devoted children and their spouses, Robert A. Ballou Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of Brick, Lee and Clark Hutchison, of Madison, Anne and David Morris, of Sea Girt and Kate Ballou and her husband, Kevin McCarthy, of Houston, Texas. She was the beloved grandmother of Kate, Lili, Kelly, Daniel, Mac, Christine and Bobby.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 11:30 a.m. at cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, Long Island, N.Y.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s RC Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt.

Beverly R. Ryan
Brick resident Beverly R. Ryan, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Concord Health Care, in Brick.
She was 81 years old.
Born in Newark, she lived in Spring Lake Heights for 52 years before moving to Brick 11 years ago.
She was a proud alumni of St. Vincent’s Academy, in Newark. She was an insurance underwriter for Louis Pipi Insurance.
She was predeceased by her husband, John and a son, Kenneth.
Surviving are a son, Michael, of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Barbara DeVita and her husband, John, of Clifton; a sister, Claire Bottino, of Brick; and five grandchildren.
All services are private.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, is in charge of the arrangements.
George Roe
Neptune resident George Walter Roe, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune.
Born in Belmar, he lived in the Jersey Shore area most of his life, the last 43 years in Neptune.
He was 84 years old.
Mr. Roe was a music teacher for 24 years, 19 of those at Belmar Elementary School, from which he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Religious Society of Friends Manasquan Monthly Meeting in Wall. He graduated in 1940 from Neptune High School, where he was a member of the marching band for all four years. He received a diploma from the Guilmont Organ School in 1944 and a postgraduate diploma in 1945.
He attended the Julliard School of Music from 1946 to 1949. He received his AA degree at Monmouth Junior College in 1952, his BA degree in 1959 from Monmouth College and his MA in music education from Temple University in 1964. Mr. Roe served as organist and choir director at various churches in the area for over 67 years, including West Grove United Methodist Church, in Neptune, where he played right up until the night he was hospitalized. He also gave private piano lessons for over 25 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Barbara; by his son, Thomas, of Neptune; by two daughters, Dr. Lois Roe, of Neptune and Carol Hope, of Lake Como; and by two grandsons, Ayden and Matthew Hope.
Visitation will be held today, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan. Friends and family are invited to pay last respects at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, following which there will be a procession to Manasquan Friends Meetinghouse for a Friends Funeral Service, which will begin at 10 a.m.

A Memorial service will also be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at the West Grove United Methodist Church on the corner of Walnut Avenue and Route 33 in Neptune.
