John Lottes
Wall resident John R. “Bob” Lottes, formerly of Waldwick, died on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Sunrise Assisted Living, Wall.
He was 85 years old.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Bob lived in Waldwick, where he raised his family, before retiring to Brownstown, Pa., and most recently, of Wall.
Bob worked as a mechanical engineer for Abex Corporation, Mahwah. He was an investigator of train wrecks, ran tests on train braking systems and an advisor to the lawyers during the investigations. He also has been on every railroad in the United States and many overseas as well.
Bob was an instrumental volunteer in the Strasburg Railroad Museum, Strasburg, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II, where he was a spotter pilot flying a single engine Piper Cub. He spoke fluent German which led to his personal capture of a SS Officer. He was also one of the first soldiers to walk into German concentration camps to free prisoners.
Bob was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ridgewood. He was also an amateur musician.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Norma Lottes; his children, Barbara Osbon, of Maywood, a son, Robert A. Lottes and his wife, Sarah, of Snellville, Ga., and Susan Lavin and her husband, Peter, of Brielle; a brother, Paul Lottes; and his sister-in-law, Mary Lottes. He also leaves four grandchildren, Ian O’Keefe, Timothy O’Keefe, Matthew Lottes, Sean Lavin; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.
Committal will be private.

Alice Throckmorton
Ocean Township resident Alice Throckmorton, formerly of Manasquan, passed away on Monday, Nov. 5, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
She was 91 years old.
Alice was born in Newark on Feb. 11, 1916, and was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, most of those years spent raising her family in Manasquan.
Alice spent a few years in Carteret after her second marriage, and then settled in Toms River.
Alice had many part time jobs while raising her children. Her fondest was in the late 1950s as a clerk at Steinbach’s Department Store, in Asbury Park, where for many years she entertained children by playing the Easter Bunny.
Alice participated in many organizations such as the PTA, Girl Scouts and Little League, and was an original founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Manasquan Hook and Ladder Fire Co.
Alice is predeceased by her first husband, Floyd A. Throckmorton, in 1966, a direct descendent of the first founding families of Monmouth County in 1664, and her second husband, Edward Sul, in 1996. She was also predeceased by her first son, Richard Throckmorton, in 1939 and her son, Ronald L. Throckmorton, in 1993.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Lavene, of Ocean; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Phil Smith, of Brick; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Kathleen Throckmorton, of Barnegat; seven grandchildren, Ronald Jr., Denise, Susan, Jennifer, Kevin, Brant and Sean; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a funeral service to be held at 8:30 p.m. at Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan.
Rita Kelly
Belmar resident Rita Marie Kelly died on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Geraldine Thomas Care Center in Wall.
She was 91 years old.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she came to Belmar in 1969 and also had lived in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Mrs. Kelly was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas J. Kelly.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas Kelly of Jackson, Lawrence Kelly, of Bradley Beach; her daughters, Catherine Swicker, of Wall, Eileen DeBari, of New Milford and Ellen Corr, of Lancaster, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her brother John Doran, of Middletown.
Burial
was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.
James Staudt
Belmar resident James “Sonny” Staudt died on Sunday, Nov. 4.
He was 93 years old.
Born in Garfield, he lived in Wood-Ridge before retiring to Belmar. Jim worked for Curtis Wright before starting his own construction company.
He was an accomplished athlete, a professional boxer belonging to Ring No. 9, and he played semi-pro baseball for the Newark Bears. He was a member of the Passaic Optimist Club and formed their little league baseball team.
He was an avid golfer belonging to Orchard Hills and Emerson Country Clubs. He worked as a starter for Jumping Brook Golf Club, in Neptune. He was a high scoring bowler well into his 80s at Sea Girt Lanes and Shore Lanes.
He was a member of the Senior League.
Mr. Staudt was predeceased by his wife, Grace.
Surviving are his daughter, Pat Wann, of Belmar; affectionately known as Pops to his grandchildren, Kelly Land and her husband, Jim, of Belmar, Barry Wann and his wife, Tina, of Belmar and Germany; and two great grandchildren, Grace and Caroline Lang.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated today at 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose Church, Seventh Avenue and E Street, in Belmar.
Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar, is in charge of the arrangements.
Larry Perrine
Wall Township resident Larry Perrine died on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Born in Neptune, he was a Shore resident all of his life. He was employed by Allaire Paving, in Wall Township.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Christina Marie; his grandmother, Anna Zurich; and his aunt, Marie Gill.
Surviving are his mother, Lorraine Burdge; two brothers, George and Richard Burdge; two sisters, Lynn Perrine Kelly and Tami Bernard; and his companion, Debarah Longo.
Visitation will be held today from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m.
Interment is on Friday, Nov. 9, at noon, at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall Township.
Jasper E. Flint
Wall resident Jasper E. Flint passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Care One of Jackson..
He was 84 years old.
Jasper was born in New Durham, N.H., and raised in Laconia, N.H.
He was an army veteran of World War II. He served in a tank battalion under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return from the army he bought the Harley Davidson Motorcycle and Johnson Outboard Motor business in Neptune, and ran it until 1957. He was a general manager for Bill Jacobs Motorcycle Co., North Bergen, until 1960. He then worked for and was a partner of Sigler Marine Route 34, Allenwood, until 1968. He retired from Dorrers Corner Garage after 20 years of employment.
Jasper was a member of Ocean Lodge F and AM 89 Wall, and past Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of NJ, The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley, and the Crescent Temple Shrine, both of Trenton. Jasper was also a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2534, Past Commander of Neptune City and Avon VFW Post No. 9755, Past Commander Flotilla 83 U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Jasper was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan, since 1950.
Jasper was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce Flint, in October 2000; and his second wife, Eunice Rankin Flint, in August of this year; and a son, Barry James Flint, in 1984.
He is survived by a son, Alfred Flint and his life companion, Cynthia Hamilton, of Forked River; five daughters, CJ Stevens-Beaton, of New Hampshire, Dawn Patton, of Big Sandy, Texas, Joan Flint, of Wilmington, Del., Margaret Vacchiano, of Allenwood and Ruth Flint, of Allenhurst; two brothers, Raymond Herbert Flint, of Meridian, Miss. and Murray George Flint, of Folson, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Interment was held at Alton Cemetery, Alton, N.H.

Ruth S. Beck
Caldwell, Ohio resident Ruth S. Beck passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter on Wednesday, Oct. 31, in New Jersey. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall.
She was 86 years old.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1921, in Highbridge, Wis. She was the daughter of the late Gustaf Levelius and Adofina Palo Levelius.
Mrs. Beck was a seamstress at Polsky’s and the Peck N Peck, and a member of the Crown of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Marietta, Ohio.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, LeRoy F. Beck, whom she married
on Dec. 20, 1941; and one granddaughter.
Ruth leaves behind one daughter, Debra Yerves and her husband, Gerard, of Wall; four sons, Graydon Beck and his wife, Carolyn, of Freeport, Ohio, Charles Beck and his wife, Nancy, of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Robert Beck, of Bath, Ohio, and Thomas Beck, of Caldwell, Ohio; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Burial
was held at North Salem Community Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m., at the Luther Memorial Church, in Tinton Falls.
