Ricky L. Kirchgessner
Ocean Township resident Ricky L. Kirchgessner, formerly of Bradley Beach, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at home.
He was 47 years old.
Ricky was born in Neptune and lived in Bradley Beach for many years before moving to Ocean.
Ricky was a carpenter and painter by trade.
Surviving are his son, Ricky R., of Ocean; fiancee, Janice Brenner; mother, Carolyn Lawler, of Brick; brothers and sisters, Debbie Tomney, of Brick, Robert J. Jr., of Arizona, Venus Warren, of Point Pleasant, Carolyn Barrett, of Bradley Beach, Chris J., of Brick, Bobby Boyle, of Point Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.
Audrey Schachinger
Middletown resident Audrey Flaherty Schachinger died on Oct. 15. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Spring Lake.
She was 87 years old.
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Bayonne until 1948. She was a graduate of Holy Family Academy, Bayonne.
She was predeceased by her son, Robert D. Viscount, in 1975; and her daughter, Bradlee Ann Viscount-Allen, in 2003. She was also predeceased by her parents, Teresa [Carroll] Flaherty and T. Joseph Flaherty. She was predeceased by her former husband, Robert D. Viscount, in 1973 and her husband, Franz Schachinger, in 1996.
Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas J. Flaherty and Patricia A. Flaherty, Vero Beach, Fla. and Spring Lake; her nephews, Thomas J. Flaherty III, of Hillsboro Beach, Fla. and Sean C. Flaherty and wife, Catherine M. Flaherty, of Spring Lake; her grand nephews, Liam Finnegan Flaherty and Shayne Reilly Flaherty, of Spring Lake; and her son-in-law, Jim Allen of Pryor, Okla.
A Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church in Red Bank on Friday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Middletown.
Arrangements were made by the O’Brien Funeral Home Wall.
Salvatore J. Esposito
Wall and Sarasota resident Salvatore J. Esposito, formerly of Sea Girt, died on Monday, Oct. 8, at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
He was 71 years old.
Mr. Esposito was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., but soon became a New Jersey resident. He attended Glassboro College, Jersey City State College and Rutgers, receiving a bachelor of arts degree and masters of arts degree in administration and education. He was a respected educator and later, school administrator in Edison Township for 35 years.
He also found the time and energy to be an assistant coach for the Hawks in football and baseball.
He was a member of the NJEA and NEA.
From 1995 to 1999, he served as a clerk for the Honorable Donald F. Campbell at the Toms River Courthouse. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church, in Sea Girt. His advocation in life was the design and construction of homes.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph A. and Filomena R. [nee Lapolla] Esposito.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara [nee Jeduel] Esposito; his children, Paul and Leigh; his sister, Joanne Kashansky; and his grandsons, Nik, Liam, Ben and Jake.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Children's Specialized Hospital, 150 New Providence Road, Mountainside, 07092.
Arrangements are under the direction of McDonough Funeral Home, in Manasquan.
David W. Pearsall
St. Augustine, Fla. resident David William Pearsall, Ph.D., formerly of Manasquan, passed away on Oct. 12, after a short illness.
He was 63 years old.
David was born on Oct. 15, 1943, in East Orange, and was the son of Raymond and Anne Pearsall. David was a member of Christ Episcopal Church at Serenata Beach, Fla. He graduated from St. Benedict’s Prepatory School in Newark, and received his undergraduate and masters degree from Seton Hall University, South Orange, in education and psychology. David received his doctorate from Fordham University, N.Y., in educational psychology. While living in Hong Kong during the 1980s, he studied at the University of East Asia, Macau, China, focusing on human resources management.
David was a teacher in elementary and middle schools in East Orange. He was a department head and teacher at the American International School in Hong Kong. At the New Jersey State Department of Education level, he was an assistant county superintendent, elementary supervisor of instruction and education officer and regional head of district certification. He also served as a preschool program administrator, an elementary school supervisor and educational consultant. His professional memberships included the American Psychological Association, American Educational Research Association, Hong Kong Society of Training Professionals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Phi Delta Kappa.
After retiring and moving to St. Augustine, Fla., David served as an adjunct professor at UNF and FCCJ, in Jacksonville, Fla. Most recently, he was an adjunct professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla.
David is survived by his wife, Deborah, St. Augustine, Fla.; his daughter, Pamela Schwarz and her husband, Andrew, Orange Park, Fla.; his brothers, Gregory, Dennis, Timothy and Raymond Pearsall, of New Jersey; his sisters, Bernadette Fauth, and Claire DiCocco, of New Jersey, Christine Villano, Alaska; grandsons, Benjamin Booth, Gunnar Carlson, and Gavin Schwarz, Orange Park, Fla., and Andrew Schwarz Jr., Forked River; his uncle, John Pearsall, Florida; and 17 nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call today at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Main St., Manasquan, between 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Christ Episcopal Church, at Serenata Beach, Ponte Vedra, Fla.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to either the charity of one’s choice or St. Benedict’s Prepatory School, Newark.
Richard T. Smith Jr.
Glen Allen, Va. resident Richard T. Smith Jr. “Richie” died peacefully Monday, Oct. 8, surrounded by loved ones after succumbing to injuries sustained in an accident while working in Guatemala. He leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall, Spring Lake Heights and Brielle.
He was 46 years old.
He was born in Jersey City, grew up in Grand Blanc, Mich., and spent many years living at the Jersey Shore before moving to Virginia. Richie was a self employed contractor specializing in the hospitality industry. Richie was a 1980 graduate of Powers Catholic High School, Flint, Mich., and went on to study business at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison. There, he was a member and President of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Richmond. Richie was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the outdoors. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and a spirited entrepreneur. He enjoyed travelling the world but most of all loved to be surrounded by his family and enormous circle of friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, always talking about his wife and children with gushing pride. He was larger than life and there was no doubt when Richie was around.
Richie was predeceased by his mother, Ann Gordon Smith, and father, Richard T. Smith Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Hill Smith and their three children, Rosie, Hannah and Richard T. III, all at home. He is also survived by his sister, Robin Gannon and her husband, Rich, of Spring Lake Heights; his brother, Bob Smith and his wife, Leslie, of Wall; his sister, Pattie Kalinowski and her husband, Ken, of Wall; and his sister, Mary Fabean and her husband, Mike of Brielle; nieces and nephews, Brigid and John Gannon, Caitlin, Emily and Olivia Smith, Catherine and Kennedy Kalinowski and Maggie and Jack Fabean. He is also survived by his father-in-law, John Hill, and sister-in-law Sonja Hill, of Glen Allen, Va.
Interment was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, Va.

Bessie C. Forbes
Spring Lake resident Bessie C. Forbes died on Friday, Oct. 12.
She was 85 years old.
Bessie lived in Jersey City for many years until 1974, when she moved to Spring Lake.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Catherine; and brothers, William and Donald.
Bessie is survived by loving nieces and nephews, including their children and grandchildren.
Interment was held at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township.
Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.
Dora Dierdorf
Fairway Mews, Spring Lake Heights resident Dora “Doreen” Dierdorf passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Geraldine Thompson Care Center, Wall.
She was 87 years old.
Doreen was a well known singer and had performed for many years at many of the Clubs and Hotels at the Jersey Shore. She had also owned Doreen Fashions, Jersey City, a fashionable dress shop for many years.
Born in Santa Croce, Italy, she came to the U.S. in 1920 as a baby and had lived in Ridgewood for many years, before moving to Spring Lake Heights 25 years ago.
She was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Dora Mascia Salvini; and her two brothers, Robert and Armando Salvini.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years Frank Dierdorf; her devoted son and his wife, Frank J. and Susan Nitti Jr., of Flanders; her two stepdaughters, Ellen Kane, of San Diego, Calif., and Susan Becker, of Winchester, Mass.; her brother, Angelo Salvini, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; her two sisters, Sylvia Bergner, of Secaucus and Helen Farkas, of Wall; and her three beloved grandchildren, Frank J. III, Amanda and Michelle Nitti.
Private committal will be at the convenience of the family.
