Vera Biele
Wall resident Vera Biele died peacefully on Oct. 7, at Sunrise Assisted Living of Wall.

She was 99 years old.

Born in Bronx, N.Y. she resided in Bronx, N.Y. before moving to Wall three years ago. She was a devoted wife, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt who centered her life around family.

Vera was known for her thoughtful ways and loving commitment to her family.

Vera was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Biele, in 1999; her sisters, Julia Rivetti, Elsie Caruso, Mary Saice, Gilda Sicignano, and Sylvia Locke; her brothers, Dominic Mennillo, Anthony Mennillo, and Frank Mennillo.

Vera dearly loved her family and her family dearly loved her.

Vera is survived by her niece, Maria Sibbald, and her husband Ed; her great niece, Kristen Ruhland, and her husband Joseph, of Statesboro, Ga.; her great nephew, Eddie and his wife, Charlotte, of Chicago, Ill.; her nephew, Ralph Salice and his wife, Nikki, of Kailua, Hawaii; her great nieces, Danielle and Nicole Salice, of California; her sister-in-law, Stella Salice, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her nephew, Lois Rivetti and his wife, Gail, of Wall; her niece, Claudia, of Matawan; and her brother-in-law, Fred Rivetti, of Old Bridge.

Entombment was held at Woolworth Chapel, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y.

The family wishes to express their most heartfelt thanks to the entire Sunrise Assisted Living Family and to Grace Hospice.

O’Brien Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Gardsy
Manasquan resident Bernice Gardsy died on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Geraldine Thompson Care Center, Allenwood.

She was 90 years old.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Gardsy retired from her position as executive secretary for Episcopal Community Services in Old city, Philadelphia, to reside in Canadensis, Pa., where she and her family owned and operated Gardsy’s Fiabane Cottages in the Poconos for 25 years.

She was an active member of the Barrett Township Community Club in Mountainhome, Pa., and volunteer for the Pocono Playhouse. She moved to Manasquan in 1996.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Gilbert Gardsy, who died in 1999.

She is survived by her son, Gary Gardsy, of Newfoundland, Pa.; her daughter, Jane Huber, of Manasquan; her sister, Lorraine DelCastillo, of Westmont; grandchildren, Timothy Gardsy, of Newfoundland, Pa., and Christina Walter, of Newfoundland, Pa.; and great-grandchildren, Timothy Gardsy II, of Newfoundland, Pa. and Alexander Gardsy, of Newfoundland, Pa.

Edward G. Bond Sr.
Avon resident Edward G. Bond Sr. passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Ed was born at Anna May Hospital in Spring Lake, in 1926. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School and Seton Hall University. During World War II, Ed served in the U.S. Navy as a gunfire control man aboard the U.S.S. St. Paul, which fired the last salvo on Japan.

He was employed by Lockheed Aircraft, RCA and Fedders Corp. before opening his own business, All Points Quickprinting, in Point Pleasant Beach, from which he retired.

He was predeceased by his brothers, James Jr. and John, and his sister Margaret Triman.

Ed is survived by his wife of 50 years Nona, and his daughters, Jane, of Flemington and Karen, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his son, Edward and wife, Amy, along with their sons, Jack and Liam, of Horseheads, N.Y.

He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Forsman, of Sea Bright and Elizabeth [Betty], of Spring Lake Heights.

Visiting will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.

A Mass will beld held at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon, on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by burial at St. Catharine’s cemetery Sea Girt.

At the family’s request, please omit flowers. Please make a memorial donation to your favorite charity.

Myrtle Farr
Spring Lake resident Myrtle “Berneice” Ferrette Farr died on Friday, Sept. 28, at Sunrise at Wall.

She was 83 years old.

Born at the Ann May Hospital, in Spring Lake, she lived in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Spring Lake in 1950.

She attended Spring Lake Heights Elementary School and Manasquan High School. She resided in Spring Lake until 2005, when she moved to Sunrise of Wall.

She was a telephone operator for New Jersey Bell for over 25 years, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Spring Lake.

She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2000; and her father and mother, Wolcott and Vera Ferrette; and a brother, Carl Ferrette.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Heine and her husband, Fro Heine, of Spring Lake, and Betty Newlon, of Neptune City; grandchildren, Christopher, Allison and Kirsten Heine, Kelly and Chris Wheeler, and Keri and Michael Popkin; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Field. She also leaves behind two very dear friends, Doris and Mary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spring Lake First Aid, or, to St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia J. Korz-Day
Spring Lake Heights resident Virginia J. Korz-Day died on Thursday, Oct. 4, at her home.

She was 65 years old.

Born in New York City, she had lived in Rutherford and New York City, summering in Spring Lake Heights, before coming there full time eight years ago.

Mrs. Korz-Day was employed as an accounts clerk for the Borough of Manasquan, finance department, retiring in August of this year.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond Day; and her parents, Thomas J. and Anna Tomaszewski Korz; and is survived by her sister, Barbara Korz.

All service will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Ely Marinelli
Wall and Indian Wells, Calif. resident Ely Marinelli died on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

He was 98 years old.

He was born and raised in New Providence and Chicago, Ill., before coming to Wall, 33 years ago.

Mr. Marinelli was employed as supervisor with NJ Public Service, in Newark area, before retiring. In the 1920s, Ely played professional baseball as a pitcher with the Newark Bears and it was during this time that he met his beloved wife, the former Mary C. Sherry.

He was a truly gentle person and was loved and respected by many devoted relatives and friends. He always embraced life with great love for music, flowers and his family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; his brothers, John and Vincent Marinelli; and his sisters, Mary Seritella and Hope Maynard.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Weil and her husband, William, of Wall and Indian Wells, Calif.; his loving grandchildren, Dara, William Jr. and his wife, Amanda, and Craig Weil, Tracy Pratt and Christi Carlisle; and six great grandchildren. He also leaves his brothers, Louis and Mario Marinelli and Frank Caccavale; his sister, Jane O’Donnell; and his cousins, Elsie Wesley, Esther Malang, Dottie Maier and Mary Lindsey.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, P.O. Box 631047, Baltimore, MD 21263.

Burial was held at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ann L. Conover
Wall Township resident Ann L. Conover died on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 86 years old.

Born in New York, Ann moved to Wall in 1948.

Mrs. Conover was a secretary with special services with the Wall Township Board of Education for 25 years, retiring in 1993.

Ann is predeceased by her husband, Clayton, who died in 1981; her parents, John O. Kunkel and Catherine Muller.

She is survived by her son, William, of Wall Township; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Jacquelynn, Matthew William, Clayton J., Heather, Elizabeth, and Christopher; and nine great-grandchildren.

Interment was held at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

If so desired, contributions can be made to Memorial and Honor Program, St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Elizabeth Ann Jordan
Spring Lake resident Elizabeth Ann Jordan, “Aunt Betty, ” died peacefully at home on Friday, Sept. 14.

She was 98 years old.

Born at Tullyrusk Co. Antrim, Ireland, Betty immigrated with her family to St. Columba’s Parish, Newark. The family moved to St. Cecilia’s parish, Kearny and later to St. Stephen’s, in Arlington, where they resided for over 25 years.

Betty was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Academy, Newark and worked as an Executive Secretary at E.I. DuPont, in Arlington, until relocating in 1955 to St. Catharine’s parish, in Spring Lake, where she was a daily communicant.

The focus of Betty’s life was her family. She showered them with love through her housekeeping, baking, sewing and gardening. She sacrificed for others with no expectation of return. Her extraordinarily deep Irish Catholic faith, wit, humor, generosity of self, never ending love and tenderness will always be with us.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, James and Rose Ann Jordan; her brothers, James, Edward, John, Thomas and William; and her nephew, James Jordan.

Surviving are her sisters, Mary Fultz, of Spring Lake, Rose Wildeman, of Point Pleasant, Cecilia Holle, of Bloomfield and Teresa Corcoran, of Blairstown; as well as her niece, Rosalie Ann Jordan, whom she raised.

She is also survived by six nieces, 11 nephews and many grandnieces and nephews in the United States, and countless cousins in Ireland.

Burial was held at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
