David Evans Brown
David Evans Brown, 79, of Allenwood, Wall Township, died Wednesday, July 7.
Born in Newark, Mr. Brown spent his childhood summering in Brielle with his grandparents Dr. and Mrs. George Brinkerhoff, before moving to Manasquan and then settling in Allenwood in 1962.
A graduate of Manasquan High School, he attended Rutgers University. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps., a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and belonged to the Manasquan River Golf Club, Brielle.
Mr. Brown spent more than 40 years in sales for paper and plastics companies covering most states along the East Coast. Mr. Brown was a fishing and boating enthusiast who loved the shore area.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Peterson Brown, his daughters and their spouses, Kristin and John Van Horn, Ruxton, Md., Dara and Matthew Schmid, Spring Lake. Also, his grandchildren Jordan, Brink and Taylor Van Horn, Hayden and Victoria Schmid.
The O’Brien Funeral Home Wall, was in charge of arrangements.

Marielle Casimira Cecelia Hoteck
Marielle Casimira Cecelia Hoteck, 14, of Wall passed away July 7 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Marielle was born in Red Bank and raised in Toms River and Wall Township. She graduated from Allenwood Elementary School and Wall Intermediate School. Marielle graduated from Wall Intermediate School with a Certificate of Academic Excellence. She had been accepted to the Monmouth County Communications High School in Wall. Marielle was an intern and performer at the Algonquin Arts Theater, Manasquan. Marielle enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and writing her own music. She played the viola for the Garden State Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Marielle was a communicant and altar server at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
Marielle is survived by her parents Richard and GinaMarie Hoteck and a brother, Alex, all of Wall; her maternal grandparents Pasquale and Mary Elena Michelini of Toms River. She is also survived by her Uncle Anthony J. Michelini of Ardsley, N.Y., Aunt and Godmother Mary A. Michelini of Fort Lee, Uncle and Godfather Ross J. Hoteck, Aunt Karen Stolarski and Aunt Kathy Roberts all of Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held yesterday, Wednesday, July 14, at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
Cremation will be private.

John L. Vorbach
John L. Vorbach, KM, 84, former resident of Spring Lake for 35 years, passed away last Thursday at Savannah Grace Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and grew up in Queens, N.Y., living in Spring Lake most of his life before recently moving to Mount Pleasant, S.C.
He attended Xavier Military Academy in Manhattan, N.Y., and later went on to graduate from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass. John was owner of the John L. Vorbach Company, Insurance Brokers in Manhattan for 50 years. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Malta.
John is survived by his beloved wife Rosemary, two sisters, Eileen Petullo and Virginia Naylor, nine children, Kathleen, Eileen, John, Sally, Charles, Christie, Thomas, Regina, Kelan, and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.
A funeral mass will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine Church in Spring Lake. Interment
will follow at St. Catharine cemetery in Wall.

Thomas J. Yochim
Thomas J. Yochim, 59 of Brielle passed away Sunday July 11 at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, after a long battle with leukemia.
Thomas was born in Reading, Pa., and raised in Philadelphia and moved to Belmar when he was a young teen, and has been a shore area resident since. Thomas was the business agent for Carpenter’s Union Local 2250, Red Bank. He was an assistant coach for the local baseball and basketball little leagues. Thomas was a mechanic, avid fisherman and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He thoroughly enjoyed the beach and living in the shore area.
Thomas was predeceased by his father Francis and his brother Patrick.
He is survived by his wife Karen Yochim and a son Matthew, both of Brielle. Thomas is also survived by his mother Lillian Yochim of Totowa; two brothers Francis Yochim and John Yochim and his wife Holly; 4 nieces and 7 nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday, July 15, from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan.
A memorial service will be held Thursday evening at 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial
will be private.

Andrew ‘Andy’ Bernard Olenik
Andrew B. Olenik of Avon entered into eternal life on Friday, July 9, at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
Andy was born and raised in Larkesville, Pa. He attended St. Stephen’s Elementary School and St. Vincent’s High School in Plymouth, Pa.
He received a BA from Kings College, Wilkes Barre in 1962 and his MA from Newark State Teachers College in 1970. He taught Spanish at Neptune Township High School for 28 years retiring in 1989.
He served as a private, first class, in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For many years, he served as an usher at the 8 a.m. Mass at the Church of St. Elizabeth in Avon. He was a true friend of the church and a very special friend of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Daughters. For many years, he served as their Santa Claus for the annual Christmas Party and always helped at the Annual Gift Auction.
He was the beloved son of the late Stephen J. and Mary A. [nee Elko] Olenik. He was the dear brother of the late Joseph C. Olenik, Ann Lendack, Leona Lakus and Margaret Morgis.
He is survived by his dear friends, Elizabeth Glosser and Lynn Smith, as well as several nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Church of Saint Elizabeth, Avon, on Monday at 9:30 a.m. for visitation to be followed by the Celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial
at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at Saint Anne’s cemetery in Wall.

Nelda Wynn Davis
Nelda Wynn Davis, 96, of West Chester, Pa., formerly of Manasquan, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 21.
She married
her childhood sweetheart in 1939, the late Boyd C. Davis, and shared 67 loving years.
Born 1913 in West Chester, she was the only child of the late Fisher Brooke Wynn and Maud Mercer Wynn.
Nelda was a lifelong resident of West Chester. She graduated from West Chester High School where she was a varsity cheerleader. She graduated from West Chester State Teacher College with a degree in physical education and briefly taught at Westtown School.
She was a member of the West Chester New Century Club and the West Chester Golf & Country Club.
Nelda and Boyd were recognized by the West Chester United Methodist Church as the couple who had been members the longest.
In 1949, Nelda and Boyd purchased a beachfront cottage in Manasquan, and enjoyed vacationing there for over 50 years with many long-term friends. She was a member of the Manasquan River Yacht Club and the Manasquan Beach Improvement Association, where her late husband and son were trustees.
She and her late husband traveled together all over the United States, Canada and the rest of the world.
Nelda enjoyed her garden and especially her four dobermans, all named Zeppy.
Nelda and Boyd were very proud that all three of their children graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle.
She is survived by her sons, Boyd C. Davis Jr., sole caregiver at home, Brooke W. Davis and daughter Nelda Jane Helmstaedter. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brooke, Amanda, Kirk and Leslie, and a great-grandson Zack.

Kevin Hayes
Kevin Hayes, 57 of Point Pleasant, formerly of Wall, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, with his family at his side.
Kevin was born in Neptune and lived in Wall Township before moving to Point Pleasant in 1979.
A graduate of Wall High School, he was the co-owner of A to Z Auto Service in Wall for 25 years.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Jill Hayes; his daughter, Kourtni Hayes, and his son Kyle Hayes, both of Pt. Pleasant; his sister Cathy and her husband Bob Mokracek of Brick; his niece and nephew, Jess and Mike Mokracek; and a great-grandnephew, Kaden.

Lucille U. Burkhart-Moses
Lucille U. Burkhart-Moses, 92, who lived in Spring Lake from 1995 to 2007, passed away in Silver Spring, Md., on July 26. She was first married, in 1938, to the late Eugene L. Burkhart of Pittsburgh. In 1995 she married
the late Campbell Moses Jr., M.D. They resided in New York City and in Spring Lake. After her husband’s death in 2007, she moved to a retirement home in Silver Spring.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Burkhart of London, U.K., and two sons, Michael Burkhart of Aiken, S.C., and Geoffrey Burkhart of Takoma Park, Md., and his partner Bruce R. Williams.
Interment will be private.
Henry A. Erbe Jr.
Henry [Harry] A. Erbe Jr., 58, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord and Savior surrounded by his family on Thursday, Aug. 12, after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
He was born Oct. 9, 1951, in Spring Lake, to Cherrie Donaldson and Henry A. Erbe Sr. He attended Manasquan High School, Class of 1969. He then attended the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Conn., Class of 1972. Before Harry became ill, he worked for Sysco Food Services as Center of the Plate Specialist, which he loved. Harry was an avid golfer, who also loved fishing, reading, gardening and smoking cigars with family and friends. His love for life and his family was evident on how hard he fought to stay with us. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Harry was preceded in death by his mother Cherrie Donaldson Erbe and his brother Shawn Erbe.
He is survived by his father Henry A. Erbe Sr., wife Dena Erbe, daughters Heathermarie Collins, Michelle Caruso and Cassandra Musel, son Harry Erbe, sisters Sherry Smith, Mary Theresa Cox and Colleen McGraw, brothers Kevin Erbe, Michael Erbe and Darren Erbe, and eight grandchildren.
