Ethel Helen Stewart
Ethel Helen Stewart, “Ya Ya, ” 82, of Middletown, with family in Brielle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 22, after a brief illness, surrounded by her devoted husband of 55 years, George Stewart, and her loving children.

Born May 16, 1929, in New York City, Ethel grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, graduating from Central Commercial High School in 1948. In 1954, Ethel met George Stewart at a weekend in the Catskills. Love bloomed, and George and Ethel were married on Aug. 20, 1955, at St. Monica’s Church in Manhattan. They settled in Middletown in 1970 with their three children, Cathy, Sean and Melanie.

Ethel partnered with her husband running National Data Products for 32 years. Ethel and George loved to travel and for many years summered in Sea Girt, with their children and beloved grandchildren. Always offering her unique style of “Ya Ya” wisdom, advice and commentary, Ethel touched the lives of all who knew her. She was beloved by her family and many admirers.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, George Stewart; her three children, Catherine Guarrieri and husband Ralph of Lawrenceville, Sean Stewart of Middletown, and Melanie Arnott and husband Scott of Brielle; as well as daughter-in-law Janine Stewart of Brielle. Ethel leaves many joyous memories for her 12 grandchildren - Samantha, Erin, Ian and Kyle Stewart; Sean, Griffin and Jason Arnott; Lindsey and Connor Ilchert; and Tom, Lisa and Joe Guarrieri.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Bill Yarnall
Bill Yarnall, of Manasquan, died Monday, Aug. 23.

Bill was born in Point Pleasant on Aug. 28, 1928.

He is survived by his loving wife Helga, of 48 wonderful years!

His loving family includes his son Stephen and wife Gina of Holland, Pa., and daughter Christel and husband Bill Sutton of Manasquan.

Pop-Pop/Opa will also be missed by his adoring grandchildren: Marissa, Nicholas, Jenna, Casandra, Cory and Sophia.

A Navy man, with many stories, Bill was a Tool and Die maker by trade, and known for his interests in everything woodworking. Dad’s one-liners and charm will be greatly missed by everyone that touched his life.

A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan, on Saturday Aug. 28, at 11 a.m.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, in Wall.

Barbara J. Crimmins Shalloo
Point Pleasant resident Barbara J. Crimmins Shalloo died on Tuesday, May 6 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 47 years old.

Born in Hoboken, to the late Thomas A. Sr. and Doris Wolf Crimmins, she lived in Point Pleasant for most of her life and was a graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kayla and Kelly Shalloo; her sisters, Kathleen Paugh, of Manchester, Eileen Elphick and her husband, Richard and Ruth Waller, all of Secaucus, Doris Hetzel and her husband, Peter, of Summit, and Denise Crimmins-Green and her husband, Laxman, of Hoboken; her brother, Thomas A. Crimmins Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Point Pleasant; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road [732-899-3300].

On Saturday, at 9 a.m., a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Martha, Point Pleasant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Helen May White
Lake Como resident Helen May [Matthews] White, whose son resides in Point Pleasant, died on Tuesday, May 6, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was born in Spring Lake Heights and lived in Lake Como since 1948.

Mrs. White was a member of the Wall Methodist Church. She loved her family, her music, her garden and her friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald L. White Sr.

Surviving are three sons, Donald L. Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Wall, Thomas R. and his wife, Polly, of Arizona, and Gregory A. and his wife Lisa, of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Carol Yavarone and her husband, Paul, of Wall, and Margie Moorman and her husband, Jim, of Brick; two sisters, Betty McKelvey, of South Carolina, and Lois Patterson, of Neptune; 13 grandchildren, Savannah, Paul Jr., Helen Marie, Joey, Julia, Justin, Jamie, Jeff, Trevor, Devon, Gavin, Amanda May, and Jimmy; and four great-grandchildren.

The Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at Wall Methodist Church, Old Mill Road, Spring Lake Heights. Interment will be in Wall Church Cemetery.

John H. Kelly
Point Pleasant Beach resident John H. Kelly died Thursday, May 1, in Neptune Nursing and Rehab.

He was 79 years old.

Born in Long Branch, he was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, Class of 1946, and then went on to graduate from Villanova University in 1950, and had remained very active in the Alumni Associations for both RBC and Villanova.

After he graduated college, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

Mr. Kelly went on to manage J.H. Kelly Co., in Red Bank, along with his father and two brothers. He was employed there for 30 years. He was also employed by the Internal Revenue Service and a courier service and more recently worked for the Bay Head Improvement Association. John was also a member of the V.F.W.

He was predeceased by his wife, Arlene W. Kelly, in 1987, his brother, Edward Kelly, and his sister, Margaret Gibson.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his children, Maureen Kelly Owen and her husband, Richard, of Ewing, John Jr. and his wife, Emmy Lou, of Flanders, Patrick and his wife, Dolores, of Medford, and Michael and his wife, Dana, of Colts Neck; his nine grandchildren, Richard III and Sean Owen, Samantha, Tara, Taylor, Connor, Meghan, Daniel and Kyle Kelly; his brother, William, and his wife, Jean Kelly, of Rumson; his sisters, Josephine Schissler, of Little Silver, Helen Shute, of Manchester and Marybeth Fricano, of Arlington, Va.; and his sisters-in-law, Ruth Wallace of Eatontown, Jean Greenwood and her husband, Bill, of Eatontown, Beverly Wallace, of Bayville, and Lee Schuster and her husband, Jack, of Little Silver; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Ernest T. Orciuolo
Point Pleasant resident Ernest T. Orciuolo died Monday, May 5, in Beth Israel Medical Center, Manhattan.

He was 86 years old.

Born in Brooklyn to the late Carmine and Angela Orciuolo, he lived there until moving to Point Pleasant in 1999.

A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Mr. Orciuolo worked as a painter, employed by the New York Transit Authority for 35 years.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Brooklyn Lodge, and was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 61 years, Edith Rollo Orciuolo; her daughter, Theresa Torre and her husband, Salvatore, of Staten Island, N.Y.; his son, Steven Orciuolo and his wife, Amy, of Point Pleasant; his brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Lilly Orciuolo; his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Phil Savalli; and his grandchildren, Richard, Annemarie, Steven Jr. and Jason.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

On Friday at 11 a.m., a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Gregory's Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742.

Joseph L. Coyne
Augusta, Ga. resident Joseph L. Coyne, whose son resides in Point Pleasant, died Friday, April 18.

He was 59 years old.

Mr. Coyne was born in Cranston, R.I. and was the son of the late Joseph Charles Coyne and Dorothy Casey Coyne.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge and Sharpshooter Badge.

He was a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

Mr. Coyne was a coach for various athletics and was known for his cooking skills.

Mr. Coyne is survived by his son, Joseph Charles Coyne, of Point Pleasant; his daughter, Tina Polhemus, of Jackson; his brothers, Jack Coyne, of Punta Gorda, Fla., David Coyne, of Summerfield, Fla., Steven Coyne, of Bellview, Fla., and Timothy Coyne, of Summerfield, Fla.; his sister, Barbara Poole, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Charles Polhemus, Donna Polhemus and Aiden Joseph Coyne.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Poteet Funeral Homes, South Chapel, Augusta, Ga., was in charge of the cremation and funeral arrangements.

D. Joanne Shaffstall Lane
North Arlington resident D. Joanne Shaffstall Lane died Thursday, May 1, in her daughter’s home in Point Pleasant.

She was 77 years old.

She was born in Erie, Pa. and lived in Montclair, before moving to the North Arlington area.

She worked with the Salvation Army for over 50 years, serving as a Salvation Army Officer for 22 years, and was later employed at the Salvation Army Territorial Head Quarters in Nyack, N.Y. for an additional 28 years as a grants officer.

She was also a spiritual counselor at the Jersey City Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center for many years.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her husband, Randall Lane, in 2005.

She is survived by five daughters, Dawn E. Gross, of South Orange, Denise J. Greco, of Point Pleasant, Debbie J. George, of Swedesboro, Dianna J. Gross, of Sanford, Fla., and Darlene Petillo of Manahawkin; the father of her children, Donald Gross, of Dover; three brothers, Larry, Richard and Jack; three sisters, Phyllis, Sandi and Sally; 12 grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Adam, Rebecca, Christina, Erika, Jennifer, Katie, Kevin, Nicole, Lauren and Frankie; and several nieces and nephews.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was private.

Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Salvation Army or to Meridian Hospice, 4900 Route 33 Suite 100 Neptune, 07753
