Martha S. Hawkins
Lavallette resident Martha Stevens Hawkins died Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
She was 89 years old.
Born in Passaic, Martha lived in Wood-Ridge before moving to Lavallette in 1995 and had been a summer resident of Lavallette since 1959.
She was a homemaker.
Martha loved sewing, oil painting and orchids.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, in 2001.
Surviving are a son, Albert E. Jr., Lavallette; two daughters, Marcia Schultz, Hillsdale, and June Lader, Spring, Texas; and two grandchildren, Susan and Karen Lader.
Funeral arrangements are from the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today in the funeral home. Burial

Barbara P. Vallance
Denville resident Barbara Paterson Vallance, formerly of Mantoloking, died Saturday, Feb. 24 in her home.
Born in Scotland, Barbara arrived in Belleville at age 19 and set up a home for her family to immigrate to the following year. She resided in Belleville until 1976 when she moved to Mantoloking and Hypoluxo, Fla. She moved to Denville in 2001 and still maintained her Florida residence.
In the early 1950s, she and her husband founded Sheffield Tool & Mfg. Co. and Sheffield Precision Ceramics Inc., Kearny. She remained active there until last year.
Barbara was active in the Belleville Eastern Star in the 1930s and '40s. She was also a member of the Forest Hill Field Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, William H., in 1990; her son, William A., in 2001; and her two brothers, Alexander and Philip.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and Helena, Brick Township; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Richard Pfaff, Montville; four grandsons; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were from the Norman Dean Home for Services, Denville. Interment
was in Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.
George N. Cox
Bay Head resident George N. Cox died Wednesday, Feb. 21 in his home.
He was 80 years old.
Born in Bay Head, Mr. Cox was a lifelong resident.
He was employed for many years as a supervisor with Jersey Central Power & Light, Morristown.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Bay Head.
He was a member of the Masonic Durand Lodge No. 179, a lifetime member of the Bay Head Fire Department, and a former longtime council member in Bay Head.
He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Surviving are his brother-in-law, Wesley Truex, Brick Township; two nieces, Adean Leach, Point Pleasant Beach, and Suzanne Xander, Garnet Valley, Pa.; two nephews, Kevin Farmer, Chula Vista, Calif., John Truex, Sereda, Calif.; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. George had many friends, and he loved his community and gave his time freely, but at his request there will be no services.
Contributions in Mr. Cox’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
Robert M. Mickle
Point Pleasant Beach resident Robert Maitland “Buck” Mickle died Thursday, Feb. 22 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 81 years old.
Mr. Mickle was a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant Beach.
He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1942, and was the coordinator for their recent class reunions.
He was a dedicated employee of Point Pleasant Beach for 39 years, retiring in 1991 as the water/sewer superintendent.
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, serving as vestryman and chief usher.
He was a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company No. 2 for 65 years and was twice a chief of the fire department, and was a member of the Point Pleasant Elks, and the Veterans of Foreign War.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and South Atlantic.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and will be greatly missed by his friends in the community.
He was predeceased by his oldest son, Robert John Mickle, and by his parents, Russell and Gladys Mickle.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Pauline Lambert Mickle; his sister, Katherine Funaro, Point Pleasant; his sister-in-law, Valerie Paterson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Alan Soyster, Brick, and Janet and John Molyneux, Forked River, Lacey; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Kelley Jean Mickle, Point Pleasant; five grandchildren, Craig and Heather Kierce, Rachel and Bridget Molyneux, and Emily Mickle; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Evelyn M. Fernekes
Brick Township resident Evelyn M. Fernekes, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Feb. 24 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 59 years old.
Born in Berlin, Germany, Mrs. Fernekes lived in Bradley Beach and Point Pleasant before moving to Brick in 1968.
She was a homemaker.
She was predeceased in 2004 by her husband, Herbert P. Fernekes.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Nina Hagen, New Egypt, Plumsted, and David Fernekes, Brick; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Rosner, Brick; seven grandsons, Sean, Ryan, Matthew, Kyle, Shane, KC and Cody; a sister and brother-in-law, Moni and Deiter Krakow, Berlin, Germany; and a niece, Elke Krakow of Berlin, Germany.
Funeral arrangements were from the Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, Brick. Interment
will take place in Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, at a later date.

Robert J. McCartney
Rahway resident Robert J. “Mick” McCartney, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Sunday, Feb. 25 in his home.
He was 76 years old.
Mr. McCartney was a lifelong resident of Rahway.
He was a longtime Rahway milk dealer trading as McCartney's Dairy. He retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co. in 1992 after 20 years in big ticket sales. After retirement, he worked for the county of Union at the Ashbrook Golf Course as a cartman and starter, which he thought of as the best job of his life.
He was a past Rahway Democratic committeeman for the 5th ward, a past financial secretary for the Rahway Democratic Club, a member of the Rahway Jaycees who served as chairman of the Second Annual Little Miss Rahway Contest, the winner of which, Debra Chenoweth, went on to win the Little Miss New Jersey contest. He was a life member of the Rahway Elks Lodge No. 1075 and served as past officer Esquire and Inner Guard. He was also a life member of the Rahway Knights of Columbus Council No. 1146 for over 50 years.
He received a honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1954.
He was predeceased by his brother, James McCartney, and his sister, Eilleen Hummel-Gantly.
Bob was married
to Bernadette R. Slonaker McCartney for 52 years.
Surviving are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert J. McCartney, Rahway, Daniel P. and Andrea McCartney, of Georgia, and Thomas S. McCartney, Rahway; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon M. McCartney and Alan Nau, Point Pleasant Beach; three sisters, Jean Hennessey, Ruth McCartney and Margaret Guenther; and his grandchildren, Alan, Elaina, Thomas, Robert, Jacob, Sarah, Zachary, Erin and Molly.
Funeral arrangements are from the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home, 371 W. Milton Ave., Rahway. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 232 Central Ave., Rahway. Burial
will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clark.

James P. Mullaney
James P. Mullaney, 62, of Wall died on Thursday, April 1, at the Ocean County Medical Center in Brick.
Mr. Mullaney was a psychiatric social worker for DYFS in Asbury Park. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from the former Jersey City State College in Jersey City. He was a devout member of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity in Silver Springs, Md., and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 371 in Bayonne.
Born and raised in Bayonne, he moved to Wall 15 years ago. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Mullaney and sister Dolores Choma. Surviving are his loving wife of 31 years Barbara A. [Andreycak] Mullaney, son John P. Mullaney of Manasquan, brother Ron Mullaney of Pennsylvania and his twin sister Mariann Cummings of Bayonne.

Thomas R. McBarron
Thomas R. McBarron, 82, of Wall, passed away April 4 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. McBarron was born in Jersey City, and resided in Lyndhurst for four years before moving to Rutherford, where he resided for 39 years. He moved to Wall/Manasquan twelve years ago. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City. He enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard in 1948 and served for eight years.
He was employed by AT&T/Lucent for 42 years. After his retirement he worked part-time for Hallmark Cards as a display designer for 16 years.
He married
his beloved wife, Patricia Hanson McBarron in 1954 and was married
for 55 years. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Richard Boxer, Thomas and Paula McBarron, Kevin and Brenda McBarron, Maureen and Robert King, James and Tara McBarron, and Matthew and Cheryl McBarron. Grandchildren Kelsey, Kacie, Kenzie, Brielle, Jenny, Brian, Christopher, Caroline, Cortland, Jack, Lauren, Caitlin and Erin also survive.
Tom was a loving and humorous man. He will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated today, Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, 90 Union Avenue, Manasquan. Burial
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. The O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements.
