Robert G. Seelandt
Robert G. Seelandt, 62 of Wall Township passed away suddenly Friday Dec. 18, at his home with his loving companion Wendy at his side.
Robert was employed as a Sales executive with the I-2 Corporation, McLean, Va. for the past year. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Staten Island for five years before moving to Wall Township in 1980. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and a huge Hawkeyes fan.
He is survived by his loving companion Carmela “Wendy” Fedrizzi, his children and their spouses Robert Eric Seelandt and his wife Shannon of Wall, Brett Hutton and her husband Jon McDougald, and Caron Rachel and her husband Scott Norton all of Easton, Md., his six grandchildren Mollie, Ethan, Chase, Gilbert, Ayla, and Carter “CJ.” He is also survived by his former wife Judith D. Seelandt of Easton, Md., his sister Edna Dodge of Guilford, Conn., and 6 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 1 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 4 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. Burial
will be private at the convenience of his family.
Bruce V. Bates
Bruce V. Bates, formerly of Brielle, died Sunday, Dec. 20, in Toms River after a brief illness.
He was 63 years old.
Born in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Bates lived most recently in Brielle and Toms River. A graduate of Manasquan High School, he attended Tri State College in Angola, Ind., and Rider University in Lawrenceville, and trained extensively in computer programming and systems analysis.
He worked for Chubb & Sons, INSCO, and Frequency Engineering, before becoming president of Town and Country Electric Supply in Wall. He was an avid salt water fisherman and loved heading out to the Manasquan Inlet to follow the promise of a good catch in the Gulf Stream.
He was predeceased by his father, W.C. Bates, Jr. and his mother, Barbara Jane Bates.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Diana L. Bates, a son, Anthony N. Bates of Socorro, N.M., and a sister, Sally G. Bates of Raleigh, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Manasquan on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests immediately following the service.

John J. “Jack” Henry
John J. “Jack” Henry, 75, of Sea Girt, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 16, surrounded by his family.
Born Aug. 23, 1934, in New York City to Joseph and Catherine O’Grady Henry, he was educated by the Christian Brothers at St. Raymond’s and Manhattan Prep. Jack was a proud graduate and loyal supporter of Villanova University. He was founder and President of Val-Pak of the Jersey Coast for 30 years, during which time he enjoyed many great friends and colleagues. Jack was a standout tennis and squash player and had a great love of sports which he shared with family and friends at many clubs and venues including The Atlantic Club. A 38-year resident of Sea Girt, he could often be found on the beach here or in Longboat Key, Fla. surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed all things Irish, and large family gatherings that often involved cooking substantial quantities of seafood.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Scully, his son Neil and daughter-in-law Diane of Concord, Mass., his son Paul of Belmar, his son Brian and daughter-in-law Suzanne of San Anselmo, Calif., his daughter Carolyn Brown and son-in-law Robert of Larchmont, N.Y., his son Stephen and daughter-in-law Brenda of Point Pleasant, and his 10 grandchildren; Amelia, Eliza, Julian, Tara, Sean, Brendan, Matthew, Bridget, Abigail, and Caitlyn, who loved their Pops.
A funeral Mass in celebration of his life will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 215 Crescent Pkwy, Sea Girt. At Jack’s request, there will be no visiting hours and internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jack’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 740 Broad Street, Suite 4, Shrewsbury, New Jersey 07702, or to the Villanova University Development Office, 800 Lancaster Avenue, Villanova, PA 19085.
Patricia A. O’Connell
Patricia A. O’Connell, 56 of Wall Township passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick with her family by her side.
Patricia was born and raised in Jersey City. She graduated from St. Aloysius Academy, St. Peter’s College and received her MBA from Rutgers University. Patricia worked in the banking industry for 17 years. She worked for JP Morgan Chase for several years before becoming the Deputy Controller for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City 18 months ago.
Patricia loved to travel, attend the theatre in New York City and more than anything spend time with her family.
Patricia was predeceased by her father John F. O’Connell in 1999.
She is survived by her mother Helen [nee Taylor] O’Connell of Spring Lake Heights, a sister Maureen Burke and her husband Joseph of Chatham Township, three brothers, John O’Connell and his companion Kathleen Boyle of Lincroft, Robert O’Connell and his wife Carol of Middletown and Joseph O’Connell and his wife Kathleen of Manasquan. She is also survived by seven nieces Kerrin Tierney, Meghan Pedersen, Shannon Craney, Kiera O’Connell, Maribeth Burke, Caitlin Burke and Erin O’Connell; two nephews Brian and John O’Connell; three grand nieces, Riley, Erin and Emma; two grand nephews, Brendan and Garrett.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday, Dec. 20 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial

Sgt. Stephen E. Cottrell
Staff Sergeant Stephen E. Cottrell, USAF, 25, of Browns Mills, formerly of Manasquan, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, in Burlington County.
He was born in Long Branch, had lived in Howell Township, Manasquan, and Port Richey, Fla., before assignment to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in February.
He was a graduate of Manasquan High School, class of 2003, a member of the American Legion, Port Richey, Fla., and had served as a special police officer for the Township of Freehold.
Staff Sgt. Cottrell enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July 2005. He had served in Iraq with Unit 732ESS-Det 3 with the police transition team.
He is survived by his wife, Sr. Airman Amy Cottrell, USAF, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst; his mother, Patricia Cottrell of Port Richey, Fla.; his father and stepmother, Charles and Kerry Cottrell of Manasquan; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Groner of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his paternal grandmother, Helen Cottrell of Manasquan and Tampa, Fla.; his sister and her husband, Ann-Marie and Cory Schnebel of Brick; his brother and his wife, Adam and Cindy Cirlincione, Davenport, Fla.; two nephews, Cody Schnebel and David Cirlincione; and two nieces, Katie-Marie Schnebel and Julia Cirlincione.
The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Internment was held in Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

Margaret Partee Weihs
Margaret Partee Weihs died on Sunday, Dec. 20.
She was 77 years old.
Born in Spring Lake, Partee grew up in Manasquan and Brielle. She lived in Sea Girt for 27 years and later in Spring Lake Heights.
Her father, William Partee Weir, founded Weir’s Pharmacy on Main Street in Manasquan in the 1930’s, a mainstay in Manasquan for a half century. She was the loving mother of three children, Randall Francis, of Tinton Falls, Derek Vincent, of New York, and Dana Catherine, of Toms River, and step daughter, April Bara of New York. She is survived by them and six cherished grandchildren.
Partee was predeceased by her former husband, Frank A.Weihs, in 2001.
She will be remembered as a loving, caring, giving person in the community. She touched many lives with her thoughtfulness and generous heart, her bright spirit and beautiful smile. Her warmth and kindness will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Andrew’s Methodist Church in Spring Lake on Sunday, Dec. 27, at noon.
Visiting time will take place between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. downstairs in the church hall.
A. Mary Braz Hirst
A. Mary Braz Hirst, 93, of Point Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Born in Michigan, to the late John and Mary Braz, she has lived in the area for over 60 years.
Mary worked as a transcriptionist for the Point Pleasant Hospital and Brick Hospital/Ocean Medical Center, retiring at the age of 86.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard R. Hirst Sr.
Surviving are her son, Howard R. Hirst Jr., and his wife, Jean, of Point Pleasant; her daughter, Gail VanBergen, and her husband, Ron, of North Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Scott Hirst and his wife Candy, Susan Judnick and her husband Brian, and Steven VanBergen; four great-grandchildren; and her sister in law, Fran Braz.
Private cremation services were arranged by the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant. A celebration of Mary’s life is being planned to be held at a later date.
Edward Norkus
Edward Norkus, 94, of Toms River, passed away Friday, Dec. 18, at home.
Born in Freehold, the last surviving and youngest of 12 children to the late John and Mary [née Madden] Norkus, he lived there and also in Colts Neck, residing in Toms River for the last 20 years.
During World War II, he worked as a butcher and grocer at the Tabletalk Store in Freehold Borough. Later, he and his late brother Francis founded Norkus Brothers Foodtown, with stores in Freehold and Farmingdale.
He served on the Board of Directors of both Foodtown and Twin County Grocers, and also served as a specialist of the Meat Committee of Foodtown.
After his retirement, Ed and his wife would travel the country in their motor home. Maine and Key Largo, Fla. were destinations that produced memories that will be treasured by his family for a lifetime. He loved to go fishing, boating and to the Freehold Raceway.
Ed leaves behind his loving wife, Jean Shaltis Norkus. They would have been married
74 years on Dec. 29; three sons, David Norkus and his wife Gail, of Point Pleasant, Richard Norkus and his wife Patricia, of Arizona, and Robert Norkus and his wife Margaret, of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Marjorie Giles and her husband Garrett, of Brick, and Diane Arbachesky and her husband Charles, of Brielle; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Donna, Scott, Amy, Stephen, Denise, Derek, Christopher, Victoria and Garrett; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant. A service was held Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
