Debbie Byrne
Wall Township resident Debbie Byrne died Friday, Nov. 13, with her loving family by her side after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was 45 years old.

Born in East Orange she remained a life long resident of the Jersey Shore area. Debbie was a graduate of the Wall High School Class of 1982 and was a self-employed Insurance Agent with the Navesink Benefits Agency.

Debbie is survived by her devoted parents Frank and Lorraine Edgerly of Brick, her loving children Richard and Brittany Byrne of Belmar, her beloved sister and brother, Maria Wrage of Clive, Iowa, and Frank Edgerly of Eatontown.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138 Wall, adjacent to the Rt. 18 north entrance. On Friday, Nov. 20, at 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. Rose, 603 7th Avenue, Belmar. Those attending the mass are requested to go directly to the church. Burial will follow at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.

Michael F. Iacangelo
Michael F. Iacangelo, of Sea Girt, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, surrounded by his family.

He was 78.

Born in Belleville to Jennie and Gerardo, Michael went on to join the Army and honorably served in Japan during the Korean War. Upon his return, Michael spent his years in Belleville and East Hanover where he raised four children with his first wife Helen. He later resided in West Orange with his present wife Marge and retired to Sea Girt in 1997. He was a tax professional and insurance agent and founded his own firm, Michael F. Iacangelo & Co., Inc., a pillar of the Belleville community since 1957. Many of his clients considered him not just a trusted advisor, but a close friend. A loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, cherished uncle, and a passionate friend, Michael will be missed by many.

Michael is predeceased by his first wife Helen, son David Michael, sister Lena, brother Jerry Iacangelo, sister Joann, and sister Louise. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie [Marge]; son Jerry and wife Irina; son Michael Jr. and wife Margaret; daughter Christina [Tina] and husband Curtis Rowe; brother Joseph; brother Sam and wife Rose; and grandchildren Arina, Helena, Gerard, Mason, and Talia.

At the request of the family, all services are private.

Ann Hollywood Gannon
Spring Lake Heights resident Ann Hollywood Gannon died Monday, Nov. 2, peacefully at home, after a long illness.

Born in Jersey City to James Hollywood and Catherine [nee Blaney], Ann moved to the Jersey Shore in 1968 where she and her husband Jim raised their five daughters. Ann was a talented quilter, loved to travel, enjoyed bird watching, walking the boardwalk, relaxing on the beach and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an avid movie fan and loved to read. She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s-St. Margaret's Parish in Spring Lake for many years.

Ann is survived by her husband James and children, Carol and Shane Hartman of Clarksville, Md., Sue Ann and Michael Skelly of River Forest, Ill., Catherine and Thomas Esposito of Easton, Conn., Elizabeth and Jeff Dement of Neptune, and Nancy of Spring Lake Heights, her grandchildren, Trevor and Neal Skelly, Sarah, Tommy and Jack Esposito and Kevin and Keith Dement, her sister and brother in law, Rita and Vincent Saunders of Cresskill, her aunt Nancy Gould, Coaldale, Pa., her sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Gyori, brother-in-law Rev. William Gannon, O.P., and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Ann’s family would like to thank the staff of the Allaire Center Senior Day Care, Odyssey Health Care [Rosalind, Beth and Kathy], and Dr. Mildred Sabo and Michelle for their compassionate care of Ann.

In accordance with Ann and her family’s wishes there will be no viewings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church in Spring Lake, on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. followed by burial at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt. Hubert T. Elenewski
Spring Lake resident Hubert T. Elenewski died Thursday, Oct. 29, after a very long and loving life.

He was 98 years old.

For the past ten years “Hudgie” was proud of his years and loved to tell people he was born November 10, 1910. He was born in Trenton, the youngest of nine. He resided in Lawrenceville, where he created a very successful commercial greenhouse business growing orchids, poinsettias and geraniums, and ran the Elenewski Brothers Florist. The business received many honors from the American Orchid Society for the Cattleya and Cymmbidium they bred. He was active in the Trenton Chamber of Commerce and the Polish Falcons, but his real love was his family and his plants.

When he retired at age 91, he moved to Spring Lake where he liked to sit on the front porch, smoke his pipe and pet the family dog Emma.

Hubert was predeceased by his “angel” Clara.

He is survived by his children Mary Jane and her husband Dr. J. Michael Burke of Spring Lake, Dr. Jeffrey Elenewski and his wife Sue of Colorado; four grandchildren, Alexander Burke and his fiancée Katie Rooney, Mairead and her husband Jay Thompson, Dr. Mark Pass and his wife Heather, and Randy Pass; and four great grandsons, Burke, Trevor, Samuel and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Doreece Lewandowski and niece Joyce of Morrisville.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Frances Donahue
Spring Lake resident Mary Frances Donahue died Monday, Nov. 2, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was 81 years old.

Mary worked as a nurse for over 50 years, first for the Visiting Nurse Association in Newark, then for Dr. Joseph Russo in Manasquan and finally retiring in 1994 from the Monmouth County office of Social Services.

She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake. Born in Newark, Mary lived in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Spring Lake 50 years ago.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, William Joseph Donahue, her son and daughter-in-law, William J. Donahue and Karen of Wall Township, her four grandchildren, Brian P. Donahue and his wife Paula of Howell, Kathleen Anzzolin and her husband Adam of Red Bank, Nicole A. Donahue and Alexandria M. Donahue, both of Wall Township, and her loving great-grandson, Matthew R. Donahue.

Visitation will be today, Thursday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, Nov. 6, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine RC Church in Spring Lake. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine cemetery Resurrection Mausoleum, Sea Girt.

Andrew M. Clark, Sr.
Spring Lake Heights resident Andrew M. Clark, Sr., died Sunday, Nov. 1, in his home.

He was 47 years old.

Born in Newark, he lived in Wall Township, before moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1981.

Mr. Clark was the Code Enforcement Officer in Spring Lake Heights for the past seven years. Prior to that, he was a union carpenter for over 20 years. He was a graduate of Wall High School, a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Belmar, and was active with the Spring Lake Heights Little League for many years.

Mr. Clark was pre-deceased by his son, Andrew M. Jr., in 2008, and his sister, Denise Clark, in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline [nee Sharrock] and his son, Shane J., as well as three brothers, Matthew of Ocean Township, Michael of Red Bank, and James of Wall Township, and two sisters, Colleen Tonkovich of Lanoka Harbor and Pamela Diaco of Rumson. Andrew is also survived by many family and friends.

Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan. Cremation was private.

The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Gravatt Dodd
Neptune resident Mildred Gravatt Dodd, formerly of the West Belmar section of Wall Township, died Friday, Oct. 30, at her home.

She was 100 years old.

Born in Newark, on Oct. 22, 1909, her family moved to West Belmar where she was raised. Mrs. Dodd worked at a coat factory in the area where she met Ernest Dodd of Neptune, they married in 1931.

For many years, Mrs. Dodd worked as a buyer for Steinbach Company of Asbury Park.

In 1946 she and her husband Ernest built their own home in Neptune, where she resided until she went home to be with the Lord. Mrs. Dodd loved working with numbers and worked as a bookkeeper for Nabisco of Neptune until she retired in 1972. A widow since 1961 and unable to have children of her own, she adopted all her nieces and nephews from both sides of the family as her own, she was considered a second mother to all as she assisted them when ever she could throughout her life.

The Glendola Bible Church was her second home where she served as Secretary of the Board, and Secretary of the Women’s Guild for many years. For the past 20 years Mrs. Dodd has prepared the Christmas program for the Ladies Fellowship, complete with favors that she hand made each year. She also belonged to the Beacon Light Ladies Bible Class. Due to her failing health this past year Mrs. Dodd was unable to take part in the church events, but kept everyone in her thoughts and prayers.

For many years Mrs. Dodd would crochet little hats for premature babies, making hundreds of them until failing eyesight and health prevented her from continuing.

On Oct. 24, family and friends celebrated her 100th birthday with an open house with many friends and family visiting throughout the day, although bad weather was predicted, her faith in the Lord kept the skies clear until well after the party was over.

Mrs. Dodd loved her independence, continuing to live on her own until she was unable to live alone, she is now living in her new home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was predeceased by her parents Charles Gravatt and Lily Kimberly Gravatt, and her beloved husband Ernest Dodd in 1961.

Mrs. Dodd is survived by her sister Lily Carmer of Neptune, and a large number of loving nieces and nephews.

The Johnson McGinley Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements.

On Sunday, Nov. 15, at 1:30 p.m., a memorial service will be held at the Glendola Bible Church, 1615 Glendola Road, Wall with Pastor Frank Merckx officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Dodd can be made to the Glendola Bible Church, 1615 Glendola Road Wall, NJ 07719.

Donald W. Riffert
Manasquan resident Donald W. Riffert died Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 97 years old.

Donald was born in Locustdale, Pa., on May 1, 1912, to his parents Rev. George R. Riffert and Helen Susan [nee Rhein] Riffert. Donald was a graduate of Easton High School and Easton Churchman Business School. Donald lived in Chatham for 24 years before coming to Manasquan in 1961. He retired in 1976 from Prudential Insurance Company, Newark, after 42 years. There he was an auditor first and then became an accounting analyst. Donald was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. He was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. He was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church.

Donald was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy K. [nee Peters] Riffert in 2001; two brothers, George Riffert and Dr. Paul Riffert; and a grandson, Thomas Riffert Jr. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Cathy Riffert of Lancaster, Pa.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Marilyn and Ralph DiRobbio of Howell and Donna and John Rycyk of Brick. Donald is also survived by five grandchildren, Marcy DiRobbio, Mark Mermelstein, Todd Riffert, Heather Rineer and her husband Daryl, and Nicole Riffert; and six great grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. Services will be private and interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Pa.
