William R. Alburtus
Wall Township resident William R. Alburtus died Friday, July 3 in his home.
He was 58 years young.
Growing up in Belmar, Bill attended St. Rose School for 12 years and graduated from high school in 1968.
His goal was to be a teacher, he graduated with a B.A. in English from Jersey City State College in 1973. A member of Lambda Sigma Rho fraternity there, he was instrumental in organizing the group’s annual gatherings up until the present. He treasured the good friends he made both in high school and college always.
An employee of the IRS for 12 years, he rose through the ranks, culminating in the combination of his skill in mathematics with those of an educator to provide training to IRS staff on new programs and projects in his last years there.
President of W.R. Alburtus Associates since 1985, he was supported in his business by his wife, Joyce as office manager and assistant. His daughter, Brooke, joined the ranks during and after graduating from college. Bill always went the extra mile and then some for his clients, bringing his caring personality to his extensive expertise.
His friendships were many and friends knew he was always there for them. As a proud “Belmartian, ” he participated for years in the Belmar Softball League. Bill also loved basketball and golf and sought to excel at both. His love and knowledge of music was extensive and one could often see him enjoying this on sunny days out by the pool.
Bill’s love and connection to his family was unmatched, always choosing special gifts for his wife, with whom he enjoyed walks on the boardwalk. Bill and Joyce met in D’Jais in 1972 and were married
almost exactly to the date a year later. He was devoted to his girls and shared his love and skill in many areas with them as well as supporting their accomplishments and careers. He was blessed with two wonderful sons-in-law. Bill’s grandchildren were his prize and they never tired of Grumpy rolling around with them on the floor.
As one of eight children, his appreciation of family ran deep, as did the too-numerous-to-mention ways he showed it over the years. His playfulness and “Nuggies” with nieces and nephews kept everyone laughing while warily waiting for what was next.
A part of many hearts has left with Bill’s passing. He was a good and special man and his like will not come again soon.
Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joyce W. Alburtus; two wonderful daughters, Carly DePolo and her husband, Steve, of Wall Township, and Brooke Bohrman and her husband, Phil, of Belmar; two grandsons, Philip Bohrman and Xavier DePolo; two sisters, Mary Jo Alburtus, of Wall Township, and Marcella McGarry and her husband, John, of Middletown; proud big brother to Thomas and his wife, Candy, of Shark River Hills, James, of Wall Township, Daniel, of Belmar, Stephen and his wife, Sari, of Jackson, and Edward, of Neptune City; and 29 nieces and nephews.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar was in charge of arrangements. Interment
will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
