Christopher H. Naghski
Manasquan resident Christopher H. Naghski died Friday, July 4.
He was 29 years old.
Born in Neptune, he lived in Manasquan all of his life.
He was a teacher for Sayreville High School for the past four years and also coached the JV basketball team in Sayreville.
Christopher graduated from Manasquan High School in 1998 and Rutgers University in 2002.
Christopher is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen, of Manasquan; two brothers, Matthew and his wife, Melanie, of Blue Bell, Pa., and Brian and his wife, Kara Whipple, of Eugene, Ore.; his niece, Addison; and two nephews, Dylan and Samuel. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Betsy Naghski, of Philadelphia.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
Mayor Frank E. Adams
Former Spring Lake Heights Mayor Frank E. Adams died peacefully Saturday, July 4 in his home.
He was 78 years old.
Frank was born and raised in Newark. He graduated from Our Lady Of Good Counsel High School in 1948. Upon graduation, Frank worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New York City. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.
He married
his high school sweetheart, Ellen Carlin in 1952. Following his military service, he worked for N.J. Bell Telephone Company in the legal department claims section for 37 years before retiring in 1991.
Mayor Adams was elected to the Spring Lake Heights Council in 1972. He was first elected mayor in 1983 and continued his service as mayor for the next 20 years. Frank treated everyone with kindness and equality, and always seized the opportunity to help the residents of Spring Lake Heights. He never lost sight of his love of the town or doing what was best for the community.
He was a member of the Spring Lake Heights Planning Board and the Spring Lake Heights Rent Review Board. He was the Community Development Representative. As mayor, he either helped plan or started a number of projects that have been major improvements to Spring Lake Heights.
One of his many accomplishments was the construction of the new municipal building. He was especially proud, when in 2005, the mayor and council honored him by naming the building the Frank E. Adams Municipal Building.
After leaving the mayor’s office, he continued his interest in the town still serving on the planning board. He was the borough’s representative to the Middlesex Joint Insurance Fund. He was a lifelong fervent Democrat and was the Democratic Municipal Chairman. Frank served as President of the Monmouth County League of Municipalities. He received the Good Government Award from the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, and was inducted into the State of New Jersey Elected Officials Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Our Lady Of Good Counsel Hall of Fame in 2007 for his government contributions. He was a proud member of the VFW and the Manasquan Elks Lodge. Above all else, his life was about his family. No one could ask for a better father.
Despite his illnesses, he was a very involved grandfather. He never missed a basketball game, soccer game or ballet recital. Family and friends were paramount in his life. His love and kindness will live on in the memory of all that were lucky enough to know him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Etta Adams; his beloved wife of 51 years, Ellen Carlin Adams in 2003; his youngest daughter, Mary Pat; and his brother, Elmer.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Superior Court Judge Joseph Quinn, of Lake Como, and Jayne and Carlos Carmona, of Annandale, Va.; four grandchildren, Joey and Megan Quinn and Matthew and Carlin Carmona; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and Pat Kennedy, of Rockville, Md.; his brother-in-law, Ray Bishof, of Marlboro; a niece, Maggie Fairbrother; and five nephews, Daniel, Edward and James Kennedy and Raymond and Edward Bishof.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Gregory Ginsburg, Director Division of Gastroenterology, Hospital University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Kenneth Nahum, and Dr. Chris Kaunsinger whose care and kindness to Frank during his illness was monumental.
O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township was in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered today, July 9 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, with burial at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Therese Anne (nee Callaghan) den Hartog
Spring Lake Heights resident Therese Anne [nee Callaghan] den Hartog died Saturday, July 4 in Sunnyside Manor, Wall with her devoted family by her side.
She was 72 years old.
Therese was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had lived in Spring Lake Heights for the past 42 years.
She had been active in the PTO for Manasquan Schools when her children were younger. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, dear sister and an avid dog lover.
Therese was predeceased by her husband, James den Hartog, in 1982.
Surviving are her devoted children and their spouses, Brian and Mandy den Hartog, of Wall, James and Susie den Hartog, of Spring Lake Heights and Kim and Ray Aufiero, of Wall; her beloved sister, Elaine M. Sharkey, of Brick; and her 11 grandchildren Dean, Tony, James, Nikki, Philip, Eric, Rachel, Joseph, Jude, Justin and Kathryn.

Jonathan “Jack” E. Algor Jr.
Toms River resident Jonathan E. Algor Jr. “Jack, ” formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died Friday, June 26 in Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Toms River.
He was 73 years old.
Mr. Algor was born in South Belmar and had lived in Spring Lake Heights and Goode, Va. before moving to Toms River in 2001.
He was a lineman first class with Jersey Central Power and Light, Point Pleasant, for 32 years, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Algor was a member and ex-chief of the Independent Fire Company, Spring Lake Heights. He was a longtime member of the Jersey Shore Firemen’s Bowling League. Mr. Algor was also a former member of the New Jersey National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Megill Algor; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan Algor III and his wife, Marcella, of East Islip, N.Y., Michael Algor Sr. and his wife, Gigi, of Howell, and Jeffrey Algor Sr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Spring Lake Heights; daughter and son-in-law, Kim Popek and her husband, Michael, of Toms River; a sister, Barbara Haytock, of Miami; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Algor IV and his wife, Monica, Justin Algor and his fiancee, Farabe, Michael Algor Jr., Jeffrey Algor Jr., MJ Popek, Jenny Algor, Taylor Algor, and Jake Algor; and one great-grandson, Jonathan Algor V.

Sheila Lenihan Landers
Bradley Beach resident Sheila Lenihan Landers died Tuesday, Oct. 13, peacefully at her home.
She was 73 years old.
Sheila was a communicant of The Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach, where she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the RCIA. Born in Jersey City, Sheila lived in North Arlington before moving to Bradley Beach 25 years ago.
She was predeceased by her sister, Rosemary Lenihan Marney.
Sheila is survived by her beloved husband, Brendan [Pat] Landers, her son Brendan, of Bradley Beach, her daughter, Nancy and her husband, Dennis, of Interlaken, her son, Kevin and his wife, Jacquelyn of Interlaken, her sister, Margaret Norton and her husband, Joseph, of North Arlington, and her loving grandchildren, Mara and Jake McGowan and Jeanne and Jack Landers.

Internment was at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.

Martin J. Cleary
Sea Girt and New York resident Martin J. Cleary died Sunday, Oct. 18, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Mr. Cleary was a senior vice president and head of the mortgage and real estate division at TIAA:CREF for 28 years. In 1981, he became president and COO of Jacobs, Visconsi and Jacobs, now the Jacobs Group, and was a part owner and vice president of the Cleveland Indians. Mr. Cleary was a director of the Guardian Life Insurance Company. CBL & Associates, the former Lamson & Sessions, and had served as the president and a trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Peggy, his children Patrick, Eileen McGraw, Michael, Kathleen, Michael and Maureen Carpenter, grandchildren Kate McGraw, Maggie and Richard Michael, and his sister, Ann Flood.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was at St. Mark’s RC Church, Sea Girt. Committal was private at the convenience of the family.

Drew E. Smith
Manasquan resident Drew E. Smith died Wednesday, Oct. 14, in his home.
He was 40 years old.
Born in Neptune, he lived in Freehold, Brielle and Phoenix, Ariz., before moving back to New Jersey to reside in Manasquan.
Mr. Smith was a software salesman for many years and was the marketing supervisor for G.T. Company in Phoenix, Ariz.
Drew was a graduate of Manasquan High School and the University of South Carolina. During his summers in college, Drew was a lifeguard in Spring Lake. His smile and sense of humor will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by his mother, Susan [nee Schaffer] in 2007 and is survived by his father, James W. and his sister, Allison J., both of Manasquan. Drew is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements. Cremation was private.

Virginia M. Ertle
Jersey City and Sea Girt resident Virginia Maria Colford Ertle died Thursday, Oct. 15, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She attended Sacred Heart School in Jersey City and Mount St. Mary’s in Newburgh, N.Y.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, Anne T. and James A. Colford and beloved sister Florence A. Colford.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years J. Harry Ertle, daughters Deidre Anne Ertle of Jersey City, Nadine Mae Ertle Sullivan of Sea Girt, her grandson John Ertle Sullivan, son in law Michael Sullivan and brother in law Rev. Thomas J. Ertle OP of Providence College.
