Agnes Wallace Anderson
Point Pleasant resident Agnes Wallace Anderson died Tuesday, June 10 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 78 years old.
Agnes was a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant. She was a devoted wife and mother and was a communicant of the Church of Saint Martha, Point Pleasant.
She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and take trips to Aruba and Atlantic City, but more than anything else, Agnes loved spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Andreas Anderson; her parents, Preston and Mary Durkin Wallace; her brothers, David and Lawrence Wallace; and her sister, Eileen Wallace.
Surviving are her children, Kathleen Talty and her husband, Thomas, of Point Pleasant, John Anderson and his wife, Sonya, of Pasadena, Md., Elaine Messenger and her husband, Steven, of Point Pleasant, and Thomas Anderson and his wife, Cindie, of Brick; her brother, Richard Wallace; her mother-in-law, Sofie Myklebust; her grandchildren, Sarah and her husband, Bryce, Megan, Evan, Eric, Jason, Brittany, Ryan, Amber, and Andreas; and her three great-grandchildren, Logan, Aidan, and Reid.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home Of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road [732-899-3300]. On Saturday, at 10 a.m., a Liturgy of Christian Burial
will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Gregory’s Pantry, 804 Bay Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, 08742, in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
James Kenneth Meehan
Bay Head resident James Kenneth Meehan died Monday, Aug. 17 in his home with his family near his side.
He was 81 years old.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Meehan lived in Bloomfield and Newark, close to the Branch Brook Park of his boyhood years, he moved to Bay Head in the late seventies.
Mr. Meehan served his country in the Korean War from 1950-1952 in the 3rd Army Division, 15th Regiment as a combat soldier and later promoted to corporal. He told the story of this war to many a touched listener. After his return home, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for many years.
There are so many people grateful for his modest but profound knowledge of so many wonderful things. He will be missed and loved more than words can ever say.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, John and Julia Meehan.
He is survived by his loving sister, Elenor M. Clarke; and his loving brother, John P. Meehan and sister-n-law Laurie Meehan, of Toms River; his two devoted nieces, Barbara Evans and Linda Clarke; and three devoted nephews John K. Meehan, Thomas Meehan and his wife, Pamela, and Robert Thomas Clarke. He also leaves five grandnieces and nephews that he cared for very much.
Arrangements were taken care of Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. In lieu of flowers donations in Ken’s memory can be made to the Point Pleasant Beach First Aid Squad.
Anne C. Cooney
Brick resident Anne Catherine Cooney, who has family in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Burnt Tavern Nursing Home.
She was 106 years old.
Ms. Cooney worked as a secretary for Kaplan Industries for many years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Annie Bamford Cooney; and her sister, Mary Cooney.
Ms. Cooney is survived by her cousins, Carol Horton and Timothy Crimmins, of Point Pleasant; and her close and dear friends, Mildred and Wash Marrucci of Spring Lake.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary of the Lake cemetery in Lakewood. Arrangements are being handled by the D’Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood.
Timothy D. Meaney
Mantoloking resident Timothy D. Meaney died Saturday, Aug. 15.
He was 62 years old.
Mr. Meaney was born and raised in Plainfield, and lived in Bridgewater for many years before moving to Mantoloking in 1998.
He graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A. in business and a concentration in risk management, insurance and finance.
While at the University of Miami, he served as president and secretary of Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and as president of the Interfraternity Council [IFC].
Mr. Meaney was an insurance broker and the owner of Meaney Insurance Services, with offices in Bridgewater and Lavallette. In 2007 the company merged with Bollinger Inc., located in Short Hills, where he served as senior vice president.
He was an active member in numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey [PIANJ], the South Jersey Mechanical Contractors Association, and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association [PHCC]. He also served as an agent’s council to various insurance companies.
For many years, Mr. Meaney served as fire commissioner for the Bridgewater Fire Department. He also served as president of the Bridgewater Office Campus Association, and as president, treasurer and trustee of the Bayview Shores Homeowner’s Association.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lavallette.
Mr. Meaney was predeceased by his brother, Stephen; and his parents, James and Evelyn.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Marjorie [nee Thurlow]; and his two loving daughters, Caitlin and Breanne, also of Mantoloking; and his brother, Gregory J. Meaney, of Hutchinson Island, Fla.
A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Lavallette. Committal will follow to Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River. Donations may be made in Tim’s memory to Faith Lutheran Church in Lavallette.
Fred P. Orlando
Point Pleasant Beach resident Fred P. Orlando died Tuesday, Aug. 11 in Hospice House, Haverhill, Mass.
He was 85 years old.
Mr. Orlando was born in Newark and had moved to Point Pleasant Beach in 1974.
He was a captain for the Newark Fire Department, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters; the New Jersey State Retired Police and Firemen’s Association, Local 8; and the VFW of Point Pleasant Beach.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific on Destroyer U.S.S. Cogswell DD651, the first U.S. warship in Tokyo Bay. He received the following medals: Asiatic Pacific 10 Stars, Philippine Liberation 2 Stars, American Theatre, and Victory Medal.
He was communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Valentine [Monterale] Orlando; and his brother, Augustine.
Surviving to cherish his memory are two sons, William, of Manchester, Vt. and Dr. Ralph P., of Newburyport, Mass.; one sister, Nancy Possumato, of Toms River; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were done by Pable-Evertz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Merrimack Valley Hospice, Attn: Tammy Stott, Home Health Foundation, 360 Merrimack Street, Building 9, Lawrence, MA 01843, are suggested.
William J. Ruck Sr.
Point Pleasant Beach resident William J. Ruck Sr., died Saturday, Aug 15, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 81 years old.
Born in Jersey City to the late William and Gertrude [Ackerman] Ruck, he was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore.
Bill left Manasquan High School to enter the Merchant Marines in 1944. He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy and later entered the United States Air Force during the Korean war and was honorably discharged in 1955.
His life was enriched by his extended family at Tally’s Sales & Service, Point Pleasant, where he was employed as a service manager for forty five years. He was consistently awarded “Five Star” quality awards for outstanding customer service by MOPAR and the Chrysler Corporation. He loved his job and the people he worked with.
He was an avid sports fan and golfer.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane Quaranta and her husband, Robert, of Point Pleasant; and his son, William J. Ruck Jr., also of Point Pleasant.
A private cremation has been arranged by the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant. Ethel Newhart Papa
Point Pleasant resident Ethel Newhart Papa, also of Paterson, died on Sunday, May 11 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 82 years old.
Born in West Pittston, Pa., to the late Chester and Grace Moore Newhart, she had lived Paterson for 55 years.
Mrs. Papa worked as a private duty licensed practical nurse for many years.
She attended the Eastern Christian Bible School in Greenland, Pa., and was a Sunday school teacher at the Broadway Baptist Fellowship Church, where she also was a counselor for the youth fellowship program.
An avid bowler, she was a member of the Broadway Baptist and Barnett Hospital bowling leagues.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Papa.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Gracemarie and Richard Eason, of Point Pleasant; her brother, Chester Newhart, of West Pittston, Pa.; her grandson, Timothy Eason; and several nieces and nephews.
As an expression of sympathy, contributions made to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated.

Robert F. Locker
Point Pleasant resident Robert F. Locker died on Monday, May 12 in Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
He was 89 years old.
Born in Newark, he lived in Elizabeth and Cranford before coming to Point Pleasant in 1960.
Mr. Locker was an electronics component salesman for Wilshire Inc. before retiring.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WW II and was an active parish member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jessie K. Teems Locker; his son, Robert F. Locker; and his brother, Joseph Locker.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Virginia J. Locker, of Hershey, Pa. his granddaughter Tracey Glenn and her husband, Mark; and his great-granddaughter, Alexa.
Relatives and friends will be received at the O’Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Rd. Brick, on Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Committal will be private.
