THE REV. STEPHEN H. CONGDON JR., 66, of Monroe Township and formerly Monmouth Beach, died March 20 at John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Edison. Born in Rumson, he was a lifelong Monmouth Beach resident and still kept a family residence there, prior to moving to Monroe Township. He was founding pastor in 1992 of The Church of Nativity of Our Lord, Monroe Township. Prior to that, he served in the parishes of St. Francis, Metuchen; Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville; and Our Lady of Mercy Church, South Bound Brook. He was affiliated with several church youth groups, and during his tenure with the Diocese of Metuchen Long Range Planning Committee, oversaw the selection of land for what would become The Church of Nativity of Our Lord. His hobbies included surf casting, swimming, canasta, and enjoying time with his family at the shore. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Richard Keller of Monmouth Beach; and several nieces and nephews. IRENE E. GERONI, 69, a lifelong resident of Red Bank, died March 4 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was an assembler at the former Bendix Company, Holmdel, for several years. She was a member of the Monmouth Church of Christ, Tinton Falls. A polio survivor since age 9, she volunteered 13 years at Riverview Medical Center and Red Bank Convalescent Center, and was a member of the Monmouth County Post Polio Support Group. Her interests included music, sports and trips to Atlantic City. She was predeceased by six brothers, Daniel, Nick, Ercole, Robert, Ralph and John Geroni; and three sisters, Nugenta, Jane and Marguerite Geroni. She is survived by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marie and Karl Nordin of West Long Branch, Jeanette Sherman of Fair Haven, and Rita and Webb Harris of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. RITA CANCELLIERI, 76, of Oceanport died March 7 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in New York City, she lived in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., and in Sea Bright before moving to Oceanport 15 years ago. She was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Queens. Surviving are her husband, Anthony J.; a son, Dr. Francis L. Cancellieri of Oceanport; two daughters, Jean Pomanowski of Colts Neck and Ellen McCarthy of Oceanport; a sister, Tina Palladino of Oceanport; and two grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
WALTER J. CLOUGH, 62, of Rumson died Feb. 26 at home. Born in Montclair, he lived in Monmouth Beach and Montclair prior to moving to Rumson 30 years ago. He was a stockbroker for Buckman, Buckman & Reid, Red Bank, for more than 30 years. Prior to that, he worked for Tucker Anthony, R.L. Day Inc., Fair Haven. He was a member of St. George’s by the River Episcopal Church, Rumson. He is survived by his three sons and a daughter-in-law, William M. Clough of Rumson, Anson C. and Heidi Clough of Marblehead, Mass., and W. Jaques Clough Jr. of New York City; his brother, Anson W. Clough of East Orleans, Mass.; his grandson; and his stepmother. ELINOR ESTELLE DUNCAN YOUNG, 87, of Holmdel died March 3 at Holmdel Convalescent Center. Born in Matawan, she resided in Holmdel the past 50 years. She was a teacher for the Holmdel Township Board of Education from 1957-74. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Matawan. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Keyport, where she taught vacation Bible school, and was a Philathea Class member. Her memberships included the Holmdel Education Association, and the New Jersey Education Association. Her hobbies included gardening, crafts, and antiques. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Charles I. Young Jr. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Betty Jean Burkhardt of Red Bank, and Marilyn Y. and Kass Crooker of North Ridgeville, Ohio; her son, Robert C. Young of Tunkhannock, Pa.; her brother, Ralph Duncan of Matawan; her sister, Bernice Lauterwald of Matawan; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
RODOLPH "RODY" J. ANGERS II, 41, of Red Bank died March 7 at home after complications from an 11-year battle with multiple sclerosis. Born in New York City, he grew up in the Red Bank area. He was a specialist trader for American Securities Corp., New York City. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a 1978 graduate and president of the student body at Red Bank Catholic High School, where he was a letterman for its varsity tennis team. He was a graduate of Pace University, New York. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Fred A. Moehlenbrock and May Coleman Moehlenbrock. He is survived by his parents, Dr. William P. and Marilynn M. JULIA M. CHURNEY, 91, of Middletown died March 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she lived there and in Bayonne prior to moving to Middletown six years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter W. Churney in 1998. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William N. and Henriette Churney of Rumson, and Edward J. and Joyce Churney of Holmdel; her brother, Frederick Seeber of Manahawkin; her sister, Bertha Byrnes of Toms River; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. HELEN G. LONGSTREET, 86, of the Palermo section of Upper Township, died March 9 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point. Born in Newark, she lived in West Orange prior to moving to Palermo 17 years ago. She was an associate for Longstreet Detective Bureau, West Orange, for 40 years, retiring in 1985. She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Longstreet in 1985. She is survived by her daughter, Lucille Van Sise of Red Bank; and six grandchildren. Burial

RAYMOND S. CAPATI, 76, of Union Beach died Feb. 13 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he resided in Union Beach the past 38 years. He was a laborer for Local 595, Matawan, for 20 years. He also served as a merchant seaman in the Merchant Marines for 20 years. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He served with the U.S. Navy during peacetime. He is survived by his wife, Arleen Bellaran-Capati of Union Beach; two daughters, Denise Capati of Red Bank, and Michele Brenner of Manasquan; two brothers, Daniel Capati of Philadelphia, and Donald Capati of Georgia; and two grandchildren. MARIE STILES, 69, of Marlboro died March 16 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Rahway, she had been a resident of Marlboro for the past 47 years. She was a member of Old Brick Reformed Church of Marlboro, where she was the founder of the My School preschool program. Prior to her retirement from teaching at My School, she was an executive secretary for Quinn and Boden Book Manufacturing, Rahway. She was also a school bus driver for the Monmouth Heights–Kinderland Nursery. She was a former member of St. John’s Greek-Russian Orthodox Church, Rahway. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Nelson F., retired warden of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution; a son, Nelson F. Jr. of Oceanport; three daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Stiles of Marlboro, Linda Stiles of North Glenn, Colo., and Debra and Raymond Gray of Freehold; a brother, John Bodnar of Highlands; a sister, Margaret Abatte of Clark; and two grandchildren.
EMIL KATZ of Sacramento, Calif., died March 28. Born in New York City, he had lived in the Freehold area for more than 50 years before moving to California with his son, Martin, four years ago. He retired from the Red Bank branch of the U.S. Postal Service. He also was a farmer in Marlboro. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served on the Marlboro Township Board of Education and was a past president of the local American Postal Workers Union and the Union of Postal Supervisors. He was predeceased by his wives, Mildred and Carmen. Surviving are two sons, Martin and Leonard, and one grandchild.
