Virginia T. Pistolese Walzer
Point Pleasant resident Virginia T. Pistolese Walzer died on Friday, May 9 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Born in Newark she lived in South Orange before coming to Point Pleasant Beach 58 years ago.

Mrs. Walzer was a homemaker and devoted mother and was the proprietor of the Antique Den in Point Pleasant.

Virginia was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of both the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company No. 2 and VFW Post 4715. She also served as a cafeteria aide with the Point Pleasant Beach School System and had worked at Jenkinson’s.

She was predeceased by her son, Patrick Walzer; and her parents, Mary and Harry Pistolese.

She is survived by her daughters, Maryann and her husband, Deacon John Ebel, Nancy Cubbedge and her husband, Carl, and her son, Robert J. Walzer. She also leaves her grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Jennifer, Jessica and Jacqueline.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association CenterPointe II, Suite 103 1160 Route 22 East Bridgewater, 08807.

Angelo J. Fazio
Marco Island, Fla. resident Angelo J. Fazio, formerly of Lavallette, Old Tappan and Manchester died Saturday, May 3.

He was 85 years old.

Known for his generous heart, honesty and spirit, Angelo was the “World’s Finest Father, ” always putting others first. We will miss him deeply, finding comfort in remembering his love, his immeasurable kindness and the joy he brought us all.

Angelo was predeceased by his wife and best friend of 61 years, Beatrice; and a son, Joseph, in 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen; two sons, Daniel and Andrew; a daughter-in-law, Susan; six grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Lisa, Jeffrey, David and Matthew; a great-granddaughter, Madison; and two sisters-in-law, Florence and her husband Carl, and Phyllis.

The Hodges Josberger Funeral Home, Marco Island, Fla. was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at Marco Island Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Delmar M. Walters
Point Pleasant resident Delmar M. Walters died Sunday, May 11.

Delmar was the devoted wife of the late Edmund; and the loving mother of Richard, Christine, Virginia, Lorraine, Constance, and the late Kenneth and James. She was the beloved grandmother of Colin, Ian, Kyle, Christopher, Joseph, Victoria, Alexandra, Christian, Jennifer, Kenneth, and the late Bradley; and the great-grandmother of 10; and a great-great-grandmother of one.

We love you and will miss you very much. We pray for your happiness in your new life.

The Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, Toms River was in charge of arrangements.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Denville.

Jack Edward Weaver
Toms River resident Jack Edward Weaver, formerly of Point Pleasant, died on Saturday, May 10 in the Green Acres Manor, Toms River.

He was 84 years old.

Born in Passaic, to the late Andrew and Elise Weaver, he lived there and moved to Point Pleasant in 1947.

Jack worked for Ben Kenney Construction, Point Pleasant, and also as a field manager for the Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa “Tess” Kenney Weaver.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Jeffrey Weaver, of Bayville, Berkeley; his daughter, Mikki Lee Weaver, of Rosendale, N.Y.; and three grandsons, Nicholas, Jack, and Matthew.

A private cremation and interment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, was arranged by The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home Of Point Pleasant.

Michael “Mickey” Darling
Lavallette resident Michael “Mickey” Darling died Saturday, May 10, at home.

He was 46 years old.

He was predeceased by his father, Jimmy Darling.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia “Cookie” Darling, of Lavallette; two sisters, Ellen Glutting, of Beachwood, and Donna Balo, of Seaside Heights; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Stephen Church, Route 9, Waretown.

Rafael Erquicia
Madrid, Spain resident Rafael Erquicia, who was born in San Sebastian, Spain, and spent his summers in Spring Lake, died May 6 in his home in Madrid.

He was 60 years old.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass in celebration of his life on Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine´s Church, in Spring Lake.

Rafael was an accomplished journalist, specializing in photography, television and print media. The subject matter of his articles and photographs included figures from politics, the arts and society. His real love, however, centered on his family, in particular, his wife and children for whom he gave his heart always. Rafael was an exceptionally devoted and loving father to his two sons, Alex, 21, and Christian, 20.

Rafael was predeceased by his father, Francisco Erquicia; his mother, Pilar Lopez de Montenegro; and a brother, Javier Erquicia.

In addition to his sons, Rafael is survived by his wife and best friend of 23 years, Patrice Degnan, of Madrid. Patrice is the daughter of Kathleen Degnan and the late Thomas Degnan, of Spring Lake. Rafael is also survived by his brother, Pedro Erquicia, of Madrid, Spain, and his sister, Carmen Erquicia, of Bilbao, Spain. He is also the much beloved brother-in-law of Tom and Donna Degnan, of Wall Township, Madonna and Les Hollander, of Madison, Michele and Tom Spang, of Spring Lake Heights, and Agata Careaga, of Arcos de la Frontera, Spain. He was also the treasured “Uncle Rafa” to his eight nieces and nephews.

Since 1984, Rafael spent every summer with the Degnan family at their home in Spring Lake. He embodied kindness and joyfulness, as well as a distinct ability to engage young and old alike in conversation. An avid photographer, Rafael chronicled his days in Spring Lake enthusiastically each year so that the family could enjoy their summer memories all year long. During his visits, his traditions were simple, from playing tennis with his sons at Marucci Park to walking the boardwalk each morning, and sitting on the North End beach with his family as the sun set each evening. Rafael was also a wonderful host who enjoyed sharing the rich culture and culinary pleasures of Spain with friends and family whenever they visited.

He will be remembered by all who knew him as the gentlest of men. He will be missed.

Robert David Sykes
Belmar resident Robert David Sykes died Friday, July 10 surrounded in the love and support of his loved ones.

He was 82 years old.

He was born March 27, 1927 in Newark and resided in Belmar for the last 60 years where he and his beloved wife, Adele Catherine Marck Sykes, raised their family.

He owned and operated a successful TV repair business for many years. He was also the owner of The Drop Shop, in Lakewood.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Cushing, of Bridgewater; his wife, Adele; his four daughters, Maryann Jerman, of Englewood, Barbara Sykes, of Brick, Carolyn Sykes, of Belmar and Dr. Adele Sykes Jamroz and her husband, Dr. Brandt Jamroz, of Denver, Colo.; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jane Sykes, of Carmi, Ill., and Peter and Nora Sykes, of Overland Park, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a devoted parishioner of the Church of St. Rose, in Belmar.

In lieu of flowers, the Sykes family requests donations to Meridian Hospice, 1340 Campus Parkway Unit A, Wall 07753.

McDonough Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Ciallella
Wall Township resident Ruth Ciallella, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died peacefully Sunday, July 12 in the home of her daughter.

She was 85 years old.

Ruth was born and raised in Belmar. She resided in Spring Lake Heights for 54 years before moving to Wall Township in 2004.

She was predeceased by her husband and childhood sweetheart, Phil. They had been married for 64 years. Ruth was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Katie.

Ruth is survived by her four children and their spouses: Philip “Scoot” Ciallella and Claire Barrett Ciallella, of Lakewood, Ralph “Bub” Ciallella and Alice Taffar, of Wall Township, Toni and Roger Smith, of Belmar, and Mary Lou and Greg Martin, of Mendon, New York.

In addition, Ruth leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Edna Ciallella; nieces, Tammy Loux and Georgianna Moore; and four grandchildren, Lauren Ciallella, Jack Ciallella, Jon Martin and Cody Martin.

Ruth was co-proprietor of “Ruth and Phil’s Soda Shop, ” in Spring Lake Heights, for 22 years and was a co-owner of Homestead Taxi Service, also in Spring Lake Heights.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who loved preparing and serving Sunday dinners for her family. She was a strong woman with a good sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved her occasional trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

At the family’s request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness in their mother’s honor. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara M. Crosson Memorial Mass
Wall Township resident Barbara M. Crosson passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 9 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Her loving family and friends were at her bedside.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, in Manasquan. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle New Jersey Veteran’s Cemetery, in Arneytown.

James M. Brady
Manasquan resident James M. Brady died Monday, July 13 in his home after a brave and valiant 10 year struggle with cancer. His strength and courage were remarkable.

He was 77 years old.

Jim was born in Poughkeepsie, NY and lived in Palisades before moving to Manasquan at the age of 12. He graduated from Manasquan High School in 1949 and received an associates degree from Monmouth College. Jim was a veteran aviator of the United States Navy, a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corp, and a member of the Air National Guard. He started his 38 year career as an airline pilot in 1957. He flew for Mohawk and Capital Airlines and finished his flying days as a DC-10 Captain for United Airlines.

Jim’s hobbies included genealogy, coin detecting and “puttering” about the yard, especially with his fish pond. He also loved spending time at the Manasquan Inlet. One of Jim’s greatest gifts was his ability to make everyone laugh, and he kept his sense of humor until his final day.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved son, Matthew P. Brady, in 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth “Betsey” Brady, of Manasquan; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Katherine E. and Mark Drent, of Brielle, Denise M. Brady, of Manahawkin, and Lisa C. and Patrick Petrone, of Brielle; and his three treasured grandchildren, Cassidy and Mattison Petrone, and Alexandra “Lexi” Drent.

Jim was blessed with many special friends, including Denis Campbell from Campbell Pharmacy. The Brady family would like to thank all the angels [the staff!] and especially Dr. Peter Mencel, of Atlantic Hematology, for all of their loving and compassionate care during his illness.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial will be held today, July 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Interment will be private in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
