Rosa M. Ortiz
Wall Township resident Rosa M. Ortiz died Friday, July 10 in the Geraldine Thompson Nursing Home, in Allenwood.
She was 101 years old.
Born in Puerto Rico, she came to Wall Township in 1947. She was a member of St. Catharine’s Church, in Farmingdale.
She was predeceased by her husband, Santo in 1967, and her daughter, Lucy Guzman in 2008.
Surviving are her children, Dominqa Kania, of Vineland, Juan Ortiz and his wife, Gail, of Bradley Beach, Jovita Kupisioski, of Tinton Falls, Margarita Nelson and her husband, Bert, of Brick, and Ray Ortiz, of Belmar; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements, with interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Geraldine Thompson Nursing Home, 2350 Hospital Road, Allenwood, 08720 would be appreciated.
Carol Joan Lewis
Blacksburg, Va. resident Carol Joan Lewis, a former New Jersey resident with family in Manasquan and Wall Township, died Sunday, July 12 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.
She was 50 years old.
Carol was born in Livingston, and spent her early life residing in Curtis Point. She had resided in the New York and New Jersey area for many years before moving to Blacksburg several years ago. As a resident of New Jersey, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, in Bay Head.
Carol was a talented artist and writer and had won many awards for her equestrian accomplishments. She worked as an actor and model in her early childhood and teen years and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild. She worked for New Jersey National Bank and was a consultant for Dean Witter. Carol was an avid sports enthusiast that enjoyed horseback riding, tennis, skiing, skating, sailing, and all water sports.
She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Robert Lewis.
She is survived by her mother, Joan Rosemary Lewis-Bishop and her husband, Robert Bishop, of Point Pleasant Beach; her two sons, Dillon Druz and Collin Druz, of Manasquan; her two daughters, Danielle Druz, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Naomi Lewis-Wight, of Lyndeborough, N.H.; her three brothers, Joseph Lewis, of Orlando, Fla., Edward Lewis, of Wall, and Matthew Lewis and his wife Joanne O’Shaughnessy, of Brick; her three sisters, Mary Ellen Lewis, of Brick, Patricia Florio and her husband Vincent, of Point Pleasant, and Jane Keegan and her husband Robert, of Haddonfield.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial on Tuesday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head. Committal will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick.
AnnMarie Ferraro [Barr]
Spring Lake Heights resident AnnMarie Ferraro [Barr] died Tuesday, July 7 in her home.
She was 72 years old.
Mrs. Ferraro retired as a nursing home administrator. She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, in Spring Lake. Mrs. Ferraro was on the board of elections in Spring Lake Heights and volunteered her time as a softball coach and Girl Scout leader.
Born in Queens, N.Y., she grew up in Long Island, N.Y. and came to the Jersey Shore in 1971.
AnnMarie is survived by her loving husband, S. Salvatore, of 47 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Elaine, of Howell, and Michael and Cheryl, of Howell; and daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Ferraro and Barry Negri, of Howell, Tracey and Ed Frohlich, of Howell, and Patricia and Robert Glavin, of Point Pleasant. She also leaves her sister Isabel DeGeorge, of Farmingdale, N.Y., as well as her pride and joy of 11 grandchildren.
O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, in Spring Lake. Burial
will be held at St. Anne’s Cemetery, in Wall.

Betty Jane “BJ” Ryan [nee Cronan]
Brielle resident and winter resident of Sarasota, Fla. Betty Jane “BJ” Ryan [nee Cronan] died Wednesday, July 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, in Long Branch, following a long illness.
She was 73 years old.
Betty Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Jersey City, she was raised in Rumson and following her marriage, she resided in Fair Haven and Rumson for 36 years before moving to Brielle 11 years ago. Betty Jane was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, Class of 1953. She then attended Immaculata Junior College, in Washington, DC and Georgian Court University, in Lakewood.
She was a former member of Navesink Country Club and Longboat Key Club, in Sarasota, Fla. Since moving to Brielle, she was an active member of St. Mark’s Church, in Sea Girt, volunteering with the Consolation Ministry and the Social Concerns Committee.
Betty Jane was predeceased by her daughter, Anne Elizabeth; and her parents, Harry C. Cronan, who at the time of his death was a Rumson Councilman, and Margaret O’Connell Cronan.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years John B. [Jack] Ryan; her son, Harry C., of Brielle; her daughter, Carroll Valente and husband, Timothy of Malvern, Pa.; and her two beloved grandchildren, Tim and Meredith Valente, of Malvern, Pa.

will be held privately in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Middletown.

Hilda Dangler Pierce White
Wall Township resident Hilda Dangler Pierce White died Wednesday, July 8 in the Pines at the Whiting Health Care Center.
She was 99 years old.
Born at home in Neptune, she remained a life long resident of the Shore area. Mrs. White worked part time as a cafeteria worker in the early 1960’s for the Wall Township School System until the death in 1962 of her first husband Edward Pierce. She then was employed by the Signal Light Company, in Neptune, for 14 years until her retirement in 1980.
Mrs. White lived a life of service and leadership to family, church and community. She was an active member of the West Belmar United Methodist Church, the Pride of Wall, and the Glendola Grange No. 168. She was a member and past president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, now known as the United Methodist Women. Mrs. White sang in the church choir until she was 89. She was a member and past president of the Beacon Light Class and served on the Administrative Board and Board Trustees.
Mrs. White was dearly loved by her children and their respective families and was a constant source of strength and encouragement during their times of need and challenge.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Pierce in 1962; her second husband, Arthur White in 1974; her son, Robert Pierce; four sisters, Hannah Heyers, Nellie Green, Ivah Bowater and Anne Nielson; two brothers, Howard and Walter Dangler; and her great-grandson, Evan Newman.
Mrs. White is survived by her two loving daughters, Janice Pierce Moen and her husband, Martin, of Toms River, and Helen Pierce Newman and her husband, Harry, of Whiting; and her daughter-in-law, Camille Pierce. Mrs. White is also survived by her eight beloved grandchildren, Robert E. Moen and his wife, Vicky, of Brick, Ellen Moen Hurston and her husband, Edwin, of Springfield, Va., Joy Newman, of Whiting, Barbara Linehan and her husband, Denis, of Toms River, Richard Newman and his wife, Susan, of Lacey, Donna Newman, of Great Meadows, Todd Pierce, of Las Vegas, Nev., Jane Schlosser and her husband, William, of Wall Township; a step-granddaughter, Cheryl Moen Vermey, of Westchester, Pa.; and six very special great-grandchildren.
Hilda “Nanny” White, who by her caring ways and sincere display of love touched so many lives, she will be greatly missed by her loving family, church and community.

Elizabeth J. [Luby] Sweeney
Lakewood resident Elizabeth Joan Sweeney, formerly of Manasquan, died Sunday, July 12 in her home.
She was born in Newark on April 30, 1921. She lived in Newark for over fifty years and worked as a clerk in the city’s taxi licensing division. She married
Richard Sweeney and retired to Manasquan in 1972, where she was an active member of St. Denis parish and the local bowling league. Four years ago, she relocated to the Leisure Park Senior Living Residence, in Lakewood.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dick; five sisters Catherine, Margaret, Frances, Mary [Mae], and Helen; and her two brothers, John and Harry.
She is survived by her beloved stepdaughter, Barbara Cornell and her husband John, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her devoted nieces and nephews, Mary Reddington, of Manasquan, Harry and Gertrude Reddington, of Nutley, Claire and Harry Harty, of Spring Lake Heights, Cathy Beahan, of Whiting, Mary and Bill Ruggieri, of Point Pleasant, Nancy and Harry Brown, of Raleigh, N.C., Jean and Chuck Edwards, of Raleigh, Richard and Eleanor Nuffort, of Lititz, Pa., Joan White, of Brick, Eileen Kimmins Van Ness, of Brielle, Denise Hosfield, of Manasquan, Mary Margaret Hudson, of Lakewood, Sr. M. Judine Jacobs SMIC, of Cali Mesa, Calif., Carol and Nick Le Pre, of Holmdel, and Mary Lynn and Joseph Cerasa, of Shrewsbury; as well as numerous, caring grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. “Aunt Bette” will be missed.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

Norma Lucille Campbell Fennelly Elms
Lakewood resident Norma Lucille Campbell Fennelly Elms, formerly of Point Pleasant, died peacefully while the sun was shining on her 88th birthday, on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Harrogate Care Center, surrounded by many who loved and cared for her.
She was 88 years old.
Born in Chile, to the late Homer and Edith Walker Campbell, she lived in Point Pleasant and Beachwood, residing in Lakewood since 2003.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Fennelly and Leslie Elms; her son-in-law, Richard Blake; and by her sister, Ruth Albisser.
Surviving to cherish her memory are three daughters, Patricia Cooke and her husband, Peter, and Mary Lou Blake, all of Point Pleasant, and Susan Leone and her husband, Ken, of Beachwood; her son, Richard Fennelly, of Florida; her grandchildren, Peter Cooke, Shaun Cooke, Lauren Hartzfeld and her husband, Ken, Michael Leone, Brian Blake and his wife, Candy, and Susan Byington and her husband, Michael; and her great-grandchildren, Brian, Abigail, Megan, Shea, Casey, Matt, and Ben.

Lucetta Wasky Nutile
Pompton Plains resident Lucetta Wasky Nutile, formerly of Lavallette, died Thursday, Feb. 19, in Morristown.
She was 84 years old.
Born in Newark, she lived in Totowa for most of her life, then in Lavallette for 24 years before moving to Pompton Plains last year. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Nutile was a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters at St. Bonaventure, Lavallette. She was a member of the Deborah Heart & Lung, Spring Lake Chapter and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary of Seaside.
She was the beloved wife of the late Sam Nutile; loving mother of Carol and Michael Vacca, of Kinnelon, Nancy and Joe Tarantino, of Clifton, Luann and Joe Goellner, of Jersey City and the late John Nutile; sister of Dorothy Hibbard, of Florida; and grandmother of Felicia and Al Mennonna, Christopher and Natalie Vacca, Gregory and Jamie Vacca, Dawn Marie and Jim Enze, Gabrielle Pierri, Vincent Nutile, Alexandria Nutile and the late Michael Tarantino and Nicholas Nutile. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
The Festa Memorial Funeral Home, Totowa, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
was held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa.
