Stephen Matthew Sprovach
Toms River resident Stephen M. Sprovach, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Meridian Subacute Rehabilitation Center, Wall.
He was 84 years old.
Born in Linden and raised in Rahway to the late Elizabeth Balasz Sprovach and Martin Sprovach, Steve graduated from Rahway High School and lived in Point Pleasant Beach since 1970, moving to Toms River in 1988.
Steve was a Navy veteran of World War II, for which he and all four of his brothers enlisted and served.
He was a quality control manager, last working for Kulka/Smith before he retired.
Steve was an avid vegetable gardener. He enjoyed softball and played into his senior years. Steve had been very active in Holiday City, where he lived, many times playing Santa Claus at Christmas.
Steve was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Gray Sprovach, in 1977; and by his brothers, Martin, Joseph, William and John Sprovach.
Surviving to honor and cherish his memory are his son, Steven and his wife, Ann, of Cincinnati; his daughters, Patricia Fronzak, of Greenwood, S.C., Jane K. Gray, of Point Pleasant, and Ellen Sprovach and her partner, Kate Crist, of Houston. He is also survived by four grandsons, whom he adored, Leo Fronzak, Stephen, J.P. and Crews Sprovach.
The Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River, handled the arrangements. Internment took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Manasquan.

Jane Keer Marshall
Point Pleasant resident Jane Keer Marshall died Monday, Feb. 16 after a short illness in The Burnt Tavern Rehabilitation Facility, Brick, after a short illness.
She was 83 years old.
Mrs. Marshall was born April 6, 1926, to Ernest F. Keer Jr. and Kathryn Henry Keer. Jane was the eldest of four children. She attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa., graduating with honors in 1947.
Mrs. Marshall started, and successfully ran as broker/owner, the real estate agency, Bruyere and Keer, located in Bay Head. She was also incredibly active within her community, volunteering for the Red Cross, as well as serving in the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
In retirement, Jane and her husband enjoyed spending time in Marathon Key, Fla. Jane was a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club and The Bay Head Yacht Club.
Mrs. Marshall’s passions in life included her late husband, Walter Q. Marshall, her extended family of nieces and nephews, and gardening. Jane will be remembered always for her generosity, her quick wit and her ability to find the best in everyone. Family was extremely important to her and her wisdom and caring ways will be greatly missed.
Her sister, Kathryn K. Petrie, predeceased her in 1985.
Jane is survived by her sister, Anne K. Poor; and her brother, Ernest F. Keer III. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews; and 12 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Frederick Carpenter Brown
Bay Head resident Frederick Carpenter Brown died Monday, Feb. 23, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 79 years old.
Born in New York City, to the late Harry S. and Marjorie Carpenter Brown, he lived in Moorestown and had summered in Bay Head before moving there permanently in 1985.
He was an avid bridge player, multiple award winner at the Bay Head Yacht Club, and a Gold Life Master.
Mr. Brown had been employed as an engineer retiring from RCA, Moorestown.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club and the Toms River Bridge Club.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sally McIntyre Brown, in 1964.
Surviving are three sons, Peter and his wife, Nancy, of Wall, Harry and his wife, Carol, of Westfield and Frederick Jr., of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Willette Brown and Sandy Nevens of Union, Maine and Dorothy Maffiore and her husband, Bob, of Brick; and eight grandchildren, Rebecca and Sarah Brown, Amanda Maffiore, Samuel Nevens, Ashley and Peter Brown, and Alexandra and Stephanie Brown.
At 11 a.m., Saturday, a memorial service will be held at All Saints Church, 500 Lake Ave., Bay Head, followed by a reception in Bristol Hall at the church.

Veronica T. Wagner
Point Pleasant resident Veronica T. Wagner died Saturday, Feb. 21, in her home.
She was 81 years old.
She was a homemaker.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Wagner lived in South Toms River before moving to Point Pleasant nine years ago.
Mrs. Wagner was a former member of the South Toms River First Aid Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 1973; her daughter, Linda, in 2006, her brother, Frank Hanley, in 2007; and her sister, Eileen Tremley, in 1982.
Surviving are a son, Eric Wagner and his companion, Wanda, of Florida; a son, Fred Wagner and his wife, Antoinette, of Whiting; a daughter, Denise Kaba, and her husband, John, of Jackson; a daughter, Nancy Degen, and her husband, Richard, of Point Pleasant; a sister, Agnes Brown, of Ohio; a sister-in-law, Stacia Hanley, of Barnegat; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Entombment took place at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
Glenn R. Owens
Fleetville, Pa. resident Glenn R. Owens, with family in Point Pleasant, died Monday evening, Feb. 23 at the VNA Hospice Unit in Community Medical Center.
He was 57 years old.
Born and educated in Jersey City, he was the son of the late Robert and Dolores Smith Owens.
He was employed as a truck driver for Fastenal before his illness. He enjoyed family gatherings and loved fishing and telling great stories.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Kenneth Owens.
He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Carol Rakauskas Burrier; two brothers, Bruce Owens and his wife, Kathy, of Long Branch, and Kevin Owens of Point Pleasant; four sisters, Diane Delk and her husband, Tim, of Freehold, Debbie Dyer and her husband, Tommy, of Middletown, Janet Polin and her husband, John, of Union Beach, and Kelly Blair and her husband, John, of York, Pa.; and his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in the Grace United Methodist Church, Union Beach by the Rev. Hary L. Anderson, pastor. Interment
will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Red Bank.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, 1800 Mulberry St., Scranton, PA 18510.

Jean L. Clayton
Milford, Del. resident Jean L. Clayton, formerly of Manasquan, died Sunday, Feb. 22 at her home.
She was 60 years old.
She had worked as a file clerk for the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office until retiring in 2002. Born in Ocean Grove, she had lived in Manasquan before moving to Milford seven years ago.
She is survived by her two sons, Alex Skuby and his wife Kristy of Milford, and Ian Skuby and his wife Chelsea of Brick; her daughter, Lisa Skuby of Milford; her brother, Carey Clayton of Neptune; her two sisters, Elinor N. Ashfield of Lewes, Del., and Judy C. Dusche of Concord, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Bret Skuby, Hana Skuby and Cade Skuby.
A funeral service will be held today at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove at noon, with burial following at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to pancan.org for pancreatic cancer research would be appreciated.
Richard J. Petroski
Spring Lake Heights resident Richard J. Petroski died Saturday, Feb. 21 in his home.
He was 76 years old.
Mr. Petroski was a supervisor on the New York Stock Exchange in New York City, N.Y. from 1951 to 1996 before retiring. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. He was a member of the Manasquan Elks, the Manasquan VFW and also belonged to the Marine Corps League. He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s RC Church in Spring Lake. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Elmhurst, N.Y. from 1965 to 1996 before moving to Spring Lake Heights.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Emma Petroski and his brother Stanley Petroski.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary J. [Butler] Petroski; two sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Susan of West Babylon, N.Y., and Frank and Christine of Clayton, N.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law Jeannie and Ben Ford of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Ellen and Greg Brower of New City, N.Y.; her brother James and his companion Maureen Cunningham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his sisters and brothers-in-law Joan and James Pruitting of Denville, Carol and Robert Burns of Seattle, Wash., and Ann and Patrick O’Donnell of Lawrenceville; a sister-in-law Barbara Petroski of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and sister-in-law Catherine Eustace of Montvale; and his ten grandchildren, Lucas, Erin, Caroline, Jake, Kayla, Connor, Christina, Patrick, Emma and Lily.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated at St. Catharine’s RCC, Spring Lake. Burial

Heather M. Schuster
Howell resident Heather M. Schuster, with family in Wall, died Thursday, Feb. 19 at her home.
She was 37 years old.
Heather was born in New Brunswick and raised in South Brunswick. She graduated from East Brunswick vocational technical school. Heather and her husband Jozef lived in Howell and operated a used auto dealership in South Jersey. Heather thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children.
Heather was predeceased by her husband of 12 years, Jozef Gwozdz in 2005.
Heather is survived by her three children, Miah, Anna and Jozef; her mother, Kathleen Schuster of Wall; her father, Douglas Schuster of Lakewood; her sisters, Dawn Casey, Sarah Hilton and Leah Schuster, all of Wall; as well as several other family members.
