Bernice “Mac” Pharo
Point Pleasant resident Bernice “Mac” Pharo died Thursday, April 3 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 86 years old.
Bernice was hired in 1953, and was still employed by the Point Pleasant Board of Education as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Capt. Eagle Pharo, and her dog, Trouble.
She is survived by her three children, daughter Candy and husband Walter Campbell of Brick, son Michael Pharo and Louise Ebert of Williamsburg, Va., and daughter Gina Pharo, Manasquan.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Carrie Campbell, of Point Pleasant, Kelly Wilson, of Brick, Brett Campbell, of Brick, Adam Pharo, of Point Pleasant, Ryan Pharo, of Manasquan, and Taylor Pharo, of Norfolk, Va.; in addition to five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, 185 Brick Boulevard, Brick, 08723.
Per her request, no funeral services will be held. Cremation was handled by Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.
Joseph H. Weinbrecht Sr.
Point Pleasant resident Joseph H. Weinbrecht died on Sunday, April 6.
He was 93 years old.
Born April 10, 1915 in Jersey City, Mr. Weinbrecht resided in Point Pleasant for nearly 50 years.
He retired from the Transport of New Jersey after more than 35 years as a bus mechanic.
Mr. Weinbrecht was a founding parishioner of both St. Dominic and St. Martha’s parishes and belonged to the Holy Name Society.
He had a lifelong interest in raising tropical fish, baseball and bowling. He was also a longtime member of the Old Guard and enjoyed watching the New York Mets and New York Giants.
The son of the late Guido and Anna Dublein Weinbrecht, Mr. Weinbrecht had five brothers, of whom he was predeceased by Ambrose, Henry, George and Edward. He also had four sisters, of whom he was predeceased by Clara, Constance and Anna.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Ruth Heckscher Weinbrecht; his brother, Lawrence, of New Jersey; and his sister, Marie Van Cott, of Arizona.
The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Eugenia Parente Swenson
Point Pleasant resident Eugenia Parente Swenson died Tuesday, April 8, in Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
She was 94 years old.
She was a secretary for McCalls Magazine in New York City and then worked as a department manager for 28 years for the Acme in Point Pleasant. She retired in 1979.
She was a member of the Secular Franciscan, Blue Army, Lady Circle of Love Prayer Group, Altar Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
She was presented with a diploma for Christian doctrine and was the organizer of pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, D.C., for 31 years.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Englewood before moving to Point Pleasant, where she spent most of her life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin, in 1976.
Surviving are three nieces, Dolores Roemer and Cynthia Roemer, both of Howell, and Kyberli Roemer of Jackson; and a nephew, Ronald Roemer of Howell.
The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach is in charge of arrangements. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach. Entombment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Mary K. Kunz
Brick resident Mary K. Kunz, formerly of Manasquan, died Thursday, Dec. 18 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
She was 91 years old.
She was born and raised in Newark and lived in Irvington, Scotch Plains, Manasquan, and Sun City, Ariz., before moving to Brick in 1998. She was employed for over 21 years as a mailroom coordinator at Bell Telephone Laboratory in Holmdel, retiring in 1975. She was a parishioner of St. Denis RC Church in Manasquan. She was an auxiliary member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2534, where she was named “Woman of the Year” from 1982-1983. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, A.A.R.P. and was an associate member of V.F.W. Post No. 1838 of Manasquan. She was a loving wife, sister and aunt.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Augie in 1998 and her brother Walter T. Gashlin in 2008. Mary and Augie would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17.
She is survived by her brother, Edward L. Gashlin, her nieces and nephews, Sue Hunt and her husband Barry, Doreen Guenther, James Gashlin and his wife Arlene, Thomas Gashlin, Edward Gashlin and his wife Patti, and many great nieces and great nephews. She considered her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews her children, and they will love and cherish her memory forever. She also leaves behind many loving and special friends who were a very important part of her life. This wonderful, energetic, generous and caring lady will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Funeral arrangements were held at O’Brien Funeral Home in Brick. Funeral Mass was held at St. Margaret’s RC Church in Spring Lake. Internment is private. Ruth Nettie Streeter Morris
Spring Lake Heights resident Ruth Nettie Streeter Morris died Saturday, Dec. 20.
Born in Irvington, she lived at the Jersey Shore most of her life. She was a loving wife and mother. Feisty, humorous, and kind, as a girl Ruth loved music and was a natural dancer. In 1942, she graduated from Irvington High School and maintained those cherished friendships throughout her life. Her family was the focus of her life and she spent many hours reading and collecting articles to give each one as a gift according to his or her interest. She was always thinking of others.
An avid sports fan, she enjoyed rooting for her favorite teams, especially when she had a connection to one of the players. She read the entire Bible three times. Gardening and bird watching were two of her favorite pastimes. She observed nature and the weather with particular interest. Her pets were always dear to her. She will be missed for her acute observations and perspectives on living.
From 1955-1980, she owned and operated The Gig Morris Flower Shop of Belmar with her husband. She was a realtor with the Thompson Agency in Sea Girt, served as Vice President of the Monmouth County PTA and was a 50+ year member of the Ocean Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Ruth is predeceased by her parents, Bessie C. Terrill and Charles R. Streeter, and her dear brother Clifton C. “Cliff” Streeter.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years George A. “Gig” Morris, her daughter Nancy A. Califano, daughter and son-in-law Julie and Paul Chowansky, her granddaughters Rebecca Herbert and her husband Lance, Jill Johnson and her husband Tim, and Laura Chowansky, her great-grandchildren Timothy James, Hunter Paul, and Colin Michael Johnson, Ella Angeline, Renee Julianne and Landon Gregory Herbert, a sister-in-law Olga “Pat” [DeBono] Streeter, nephew Scott M. Streeter. She also leaves her kitty cat Whiskers.

Wanda “Wendy” Mucci
Manasquan resident Wanda “Wendy” Mucci died Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.
She was 85 years old.
Known as Aunt Wendy, she was born in Helmetta and moved to Manasquan in 1968. Wendy retired from Bristol Meyers Squibb as a microbiology lab technician after 42 years. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and the St. Denis Seniors, the Squibb Quarter Century Club and the Squibb Seniors. Wendy was a good friend and neighbor.
She is predeceased by her husband Nicholas in 1977, her parents John and Anna Cizkowski, her brother Herbert, and sister Edith.
Surviving are her nephew William and his wife Elva Rodek of New York City, N.Y., and their children Meredith and Kirsten. Also surviving are her niece Janice and her husband Robert Geisler of Boca Raton, Fla. and their children Grant and Lauren.
Visitation was held at Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street Manasquan. Funeral mass was offered Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Helmetta. Internment followed at Holy Trinity cemetery in Jamesburg. Tributes can be posted at www.mem.com.
Marian Madison DiStasio
Spring Lake Heights resident Marian Madison DiStasio died Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Care One in Wall.
She was 81 years old.
Mrs. DiStasio was a loving wife and devoted mother. She was a member of the Manasquan River Gold and the Iron Horse Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Marian also generously donated her time as a volunteer and the VNAJC Thrift Shop in Manasquan. Born and raised in Buffalo, N.Y., she was a graduate of Cornell University and resided in Spring Lake Heights, for 53 years and wintered in West Palm Beach, Fla. Marian enjoyed golf, gardening and was an avid N.Y. Giants fan.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph R. DiStasio, Jr.
She is survived by her son Joseph R. DiStasio of Spring Lake Heights, her daughters, Joann DiStasio Davis of Patterson, Ga., and Susan DiStasio of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She also leaves her brother, Richard D. Madison and her sister, Marcia M. Michelson.
Visitation took place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. Funeral service was held Saturday, followed by burial at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Rd, Boca Raton, Fla. 33486.
Sheri Youmans Savino
Wall resident Sheri Youmans Savino died Wednesday, Dec. 17.
She was 53 years old.
Sheri was a beloved mother, loving wife, devoted daughter, and true friend. Born in Red Bank, she grew up in Wall and graduated from Wall High School. She also received a degree in sociology from Mercer County Community College in West Windsor.
Sheri was a successful real estate agent in Ocean Grove and a member of The Million Dollar Club. Sheri was also a licensed casino dealer as well as a certified hair stylist. In her later life, Sheri was employed with McGraw Hill Inc. as a Senior Sales Correspondent. During the last 10 years of Sheri’s life, she was encompassed by the entrepreneurial spirit and owned an Italian restaurant and a delivery service with her husband, Yazdi Mehta.
Sheri was actively involved in social and charitable organizations. She worked tirelessly with The Breast Cancer Resource Center [BCRC] in Princeton to promote cancer awareness. She pioneered and organized the Stella Morris retreat for women diagnosed with breast cancer. This has grown to be a very successful bi-annual event.
Sheri is survived by her mother, Margaret Youmans Byerley, Earl Byerley [step-father], husband Yazdi Mehta and daughters Carrissa Savino, Francesca Savino and Evita Mehta.
Also surviving are her sister Kim DenBleyker, her brother-in-law Jeff and their two children Megan and TJ. Sheri had numerous friends all over the world.
Sheri was a woman of grace and style. She was a spiritual and noble soul. Goodbye bright star, may you rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.
Visitation was held at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Route 138 in Wall. A funeral service was held Saturday at the funeral home.
