Gertrude F. Keegan
Spring Lake Heights resident Gertrude F. [nee Stockhammer] Keegan died Sunday, Dec. 21 at Care One in Wall.

She was 98 years old.

She was a Communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake. Gertrude was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and the “Arm Chair Manager” of the New York Yankees.

Grandma Keegan, as she was known to all of her immediate family, was born in Jersey City on October 22, 1910. She was a graduate of Jersey State College, majoring in education. Gertrude taught as a substitute teacher at Our Lady of Victory’s grammar school. In later years, Gertrude taught full time ar the East Newark Public School before retiring to Spring Lake Heights.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill of 62 years, a granddaughter Mary Beth Salmon, her parents Gertrude and Nicholas Stockhammer and her sister, Wilhelmina Connolly.

Gertrude is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Ann Ping and her husband Bob, Trudy Hackett and her husband Jim, and Regina Salmon and her husband Bill. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Gertrude is lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home at 2028 Hwy.. 35 on New Bedford Road in Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catharine’s RC Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mary Beth Salmon Scholarship Fund, or I.M.P.A.C.T. [Improving Middletown Program for Autistic Children Together], 1 Murfield Drive, Lincroft 07738.

George F. Schildknecht Jr.
Point Pleasant resident George F. Schildknecht Jr. died Tuesday, Dec. 16 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 80 years old.

Born in Newark, he was a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant.

Mr. Schildknecht worked as a master carpenter and was a life member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. He was a member of Ocean County Local 2018, Lakewood and Monmouth County Local 2250, Red Bank.

He was a former vice president of Ocean County Carpenter’s Local 2018; a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons, Durand Lodge No. 179, F.A. & M, Point Pleasant for 45 years; a member of American Legion Post 196, Point Pleasant Beach; a Canteen Member of VFW Post 4715, Point Pleasant Beach; a life member of the Ocean County Exempt Fireman’s Association; a life member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen’s Association; ex-chief of Point Pleasant Fire Company No. 1, 1959-1960; co-founder and first president of the West Point Pleasant Exempt Fireman’s Association and past president of the West Point Pleasant Fireman’s Relief Association.

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Bay Head.

He was predeceased by his sister, Edna Applegate.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 36 years, Kathleen Covert Schildknecht; two daughters, Lynda MacDonald, of Brick, and Kathie Pearce De Ponte and her husband, Tony, of Howell; one grandson, Brian J. Crammer, of Howell; one great-granddaughter, Lexxi Crammer, of Howell; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 3 p.m., Saturday, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Interment will be at Whitelawn Cemetery, Point Pleasant.

As an expression of sympathy, contributions made to Point Pleasant Borough First Aid Squad, P. O. Box 3, Point Pleasant, 08742 are suggested.

Alfred C. Crannell
Brick resident Alfred C. Crannell, with family from Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Dec. 16 in his home surrounded by those he loved.

He was 79 years old.

Born in Elizabeth on May 25, 1929, Al graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth and also attended Newark College of Engineering.

He married Lois Bennett Crannell on June 12, 1948. The couple were married for 60 years. Lois passed away on Nov. 23.

Al worked for Worthington Pump Corporation, East Orange, and retired as the supervisor of material control. He also worked, with his daughter Alyson, for Briggs Transportation, Point Pleasant Beach, as a school bus aide.

He was a member and past president of the Greenbriar Kiwanis and was awarded the George F. Hixson Fellowship for his service. He also was a member of the Greenbriar Bowling League and the Durand Lodge No. 179, F. & A. M.

Al is survived by three daughters, Susan Crannell, of New Mexico, Alyson Swetits and her husband, Pete, and Beth Crannell, all of Point Pleasant.

He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Colleen Crannell, also of Point Pleasant, who was married to Lois and Alfred’s son, David Crannell, who predeceased his father.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Vincent Julian, Ryan and Devin Crannell, Peter, Matthew, Caitlin, and Robert Swetits; and one great-grandson, David Julian, all of Point Pleasant.

At 11 a.m. on Friday, services will be held at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, with Pastor John Helm, presiding. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. His grandsons and great-grandson will be his pallbearers.

Elynore Alexander
Point Pleasant Beach resident Elynore Alexander died Sunday, Dec. 14, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Born in Hoboken and formerly of Irvington, she had lived in Point Pleasant Beach for over 40 years.

Mrs. Alexander worked as an operator for New York Telephone and also for different steamship companies in New York.

She was a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Democratic Club and was a Board of Elections worker.

For over 25 years she coordinated and supervised monthly bus trips to Atlantic City, which were later renamed in honor of her late husband.

She was a devoted communicant of St. Peter Church, Point Pleasant Beach, where she was a member of The Glorious Years and the Altar Rosary Society.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James C. Alexander.

Surviving are her niece and godchild, Elynor Campbell and her husband, Frank, of Chester, N.Y.; and several grand nieces and nephews.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.

Leonard Gliatta
Fort Pierce, Fla. resident Leonard Gliatta, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville.

He was 69 years old.

Son of the late Louis and Fay DePeri Gliatta, he was raised in Garfield, where he was a graduate of Garfield High School. He later resided in Point Pleasant and had lived in Fort Pierce since 1996.

A retired electrician, Mr. Gliatta was a member of and worked for the I.B.E.W., Local No. 164, Jersey City for 48 years.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Italian-American Club; the Knights of Columbus; the B.P.O. Elks; the L.O.O. Moose; and was a past president of the Bay Head Shores Property Owners Association.

An avid NASCAR fan, he also enjoyed handgun range shooting and traveling. He was a proud member of a private club called “The Kids” which were classmates from elementary school through high school in Garfield, which met socially throughout the year.

He was predeceased by his wife, of 42 years, Barbara Takacs Gliatta, in 2005.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Robin Savage and her husband, Scott, of Toms River and Michele Amar and her husband, Joe, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; his son, Louis Gliatta and his wife, Kelly, of Toms River; his sister, Antonia Gliatta, of Tinton Falls; and his girlfriend, Joanne Murch, of Bloomfield.

He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Anna, Arielle, Sharone, Yoni, Daniel, Sarah, Mendy, and Moshe; many dear friends; and his dog, Gabby.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at The Pable-Everz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 9:30 a.m., Saturday, services will be held, at the funeral home, followed by entombment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook.

As an expression of sympathy, donations made to either the Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick, 08723 or to St. Gregory’s Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742, are suggested.

Donald L. Dickson
Lavallette resident Donald L. Dickson died in his home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, after a long illness.

He was 82 years old.

Born in Newark, he lived in Harrison for 25 years before retiring and moving to Pelican Island in 1976. He spent winters in Deerfield Beach, Fla.

He was owner operator of Dorsey Roofing Co., Harrison, from 1946 to 1976. He was also the owner of several other businesses in Harrison and was the owner of the Bayside Café in Lavallette for four years.

He was a life member and the youngest member elected president of the Harrison Optimist Club. He was also a member of the Kearney Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and a Life Member of the American Legion. He served on the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America, and the board of directors of the Savoy Building and Loan, the First National Bank of Kearney and Ortani Savings and Loan.

He was a member of the Seaside Heights Life Guard Association. He served in the US Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Jean.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10 a.m. at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Church, Lavallette. Arrangements by the Timothy E. Ryan Funeral Home, 706 Route 35 north, Lavallette.

The family requests memorial contributions may be made to The New Jersey Foundation of the Blind, P. O. Box 929, Denville, 07834.

Marion W. Fees
Freehold resident Marion W. Fees, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Dec. 9 in the Applewood’s Estate in Freehold.

She was 90 years old.

Born in Manhattan, she lived in Point Pleasant most of her life before moving to Freehold 18 years ago.

Mrs. Fees was a bookkeeper for the Manasquan Liquor Store in Manasquan for 30 years before retiring.

She played the cello with the New York Symphony Orchestra and was the secretary to Armand Hammer, the famous industrialist of the 1930s.

Mrs. Fees was predeceased by her husband, Ralph in, 1984.

She is survived by her son Vernon, of Brownsmills.

Cremation will be private. The Neary Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.
