Barbara G. Cox
Tinton Falls resident Barbara G. Cox, whose son lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Monday, Dec. 15, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 92 years old.
She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. and had lived in Tinton Falls since 2001.
She graduated from Keene State College in New Hampshire and received her master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson.
She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Barbara retired in 1983 after 26 years of teaching home economics in the Brick School system.
She was a member of the Baptist community at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls. Barbara was an active member of the American Legion Post 346, Neptune, the N.J.E.A, the W.A.V.E.S Unit 68 in Toms River and the W.I.M.S.A.
Barbara was an avid traveler in her later years and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward, in 1987.
She is survived by her sons, Edward Cox and his wife, Rosemary, of Kinnelon, Brian Cox, of Alhambra, Calif., Gregory Cox and his wife, Beth, of Point Pleasant Beach; her daughter, Candace Cox, and her husband, Frank Crimmins, of New York City; and her grandsons, Edward, Christopher and Taylor Cox.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Atrium at Seabrook Village, 3000 Essex Road, Tinton Falls.
The family has set up a memorial Web site for Barbara at barbie.coxintl.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Seabrook Benevolent Care Fund.
Blanche Hackett Buttleman
Toms River resident Blanche Hackett Buttleman, whose daughter lives in Lavallette, died Thursday, Dec. 11, surrounded by her loving family in Meridian Health Care, Brick.
She was 86 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in North Arlington and West Paterson before moving to Toms River in 1991.
Blanche enjoyed a long and successful career as an executive secretary to the vice president of Avionics at ITT, Nutley. She was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church, Berkeley.
She traveled extensively with her husband, Jack, including trips around the world and winters in Jupiter, Fla.
Blanche was predeceased by her beloved husband, John “Jack”; and her dear grandson, Thomas Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Jill and her husband, Tom McDonough, of Lavallette; a son, Jack and his wife Jo Ann Buttleman, of Totowa; five grandchildren, Ann Marie, Lisa, Timothy, Pamela and Suzanne; nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Millie, Shea, Dillon, Erin, Brittany, Ken Jr., Jacklyn, and Jared; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette, was in charge of arrangements. Burial
took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
Harry H. Johnson
Brick resident Harry H. Johnson, whose sister lives in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Dec. 16 in his home.
He was 69 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, to the late George and Latricia Odell Johnson, he was a lifelong area resident.
For 35 years Harry worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, Point Pleasant Beach, and retired in 1992.
He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Point Pleasant Lodge.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Ann; by his brother, George; and by his sister, Elizabeth Casagrande.
Surviving are his son, Michael H. Johnson and two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Johnson and Christine Johnson, all of Maryland; his brother, Phillip Bruce Johnson, of Brick and Florida; and his sister, Lillian Shaugnessy, of Point Pleasant. He is also survived by three stepdaughters, Debra Goldstein and Doreen Goldstein, both of Florida, and Dorothy Hartdung, of Toms River; and by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road., where at 12:30 p.m. a service will be held. Interment
will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch.
Mary F. LaPera DeFilippis
Toms River resident Mary F. LaPera DeFilippis, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Sunday, Dec. 14, at home.
She was 87 years old.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mary moved to the Toms River area over 50 years ago. She was a homemaker for most of her life. Mary was a parishioner of St. Justin’s Roman Catholic Church, Toms River.
She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Pasquale, in 1972.
She is survived by her two daughters, Johann and her husband, Stanley Karitko, and Marie DeFilippis and her husband, Russ Walters, all of Toms River; a son, Albert, and his wife, Joan, of Point Pleasant; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucy Sanders of Philadelphia, .
The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Toms River, was in charge of arrangements. Burial
took place at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
Barbara Grady Lemma
Point Pleasant Beach resident Barbara Grady Lemma died Thursday, Dec. 11, in her home.
She was 60 years old.
Born in Nutley, to the late Joseph and Theresa Grady, she has lived in Point Pleasant Beach for many years.
Barbara loved country music, line dancing, and the great outdoors. She loved embarking on new adventures.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph Lemma; her daughter, Tara Lawlor and her husband, William, of Connecticut; her sons, Ernest Jay Marenyi, of Connecticut and Eric Marenyi and his wife, Jennifer, of North Carolina; and her grandchildren, Grady and Griffin Lawlor and Rebecca and Ryan Marenyi. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Dawn Ende and her husband, Richard; a sister, Cathy Kerwin; a brother, Joseph Grady; a stepson, Joseph Lemma; and a stepgrandson, Joseph.
A memorial service is being planned for January. Private cremation was arranged by The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.
William H. Pierson, Jr.
William H. Pierson, Jr., 82, of Lincroft, with family in Spring Lake, died on Friday Sept. 3, at the Meridian Sub Acute Facility, in Wall.
Mr. Pierson was a foreman with the Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park for 23 years before retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Navy veteran immediately following WWII from 1945 — 1948. Mr. Pierson was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Madison and a member of the Madison Elks No. 1465 for 27 years where he was the Elk of the Year in 1975. He was born in Orange, raised in East Orange, and lived in Irvington, Middletown, Madison and Ocean Township before moving to Lincroft five years ago.
Mr. Pierson was predeceased by his loving wife Helen M [Rossitter] Pierson in 2001, sister Helen Shann, and son- in-law Robert E. Murphy in 2008. Surviving are his daughters Janet L. Murphy, of Spring Lake and Barbara A. Widmann, of Ocean Grove. He also leaves several cousins.
The O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall, is in charge of arrangements.
The service will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home followed by burial and Military Honors at The Brig. Wm. C. Doyle cemetery in Arneytown. Donation may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 2550 Rt. 1, North Brunswick 08902-4301.
Grace B. Dickson
Grace B. Dickson died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 6, at home in Sea Girt.
Mrs. Dickson was born on May 29, 1918 in Baltimore, Md. She lived in Manasquan most of her life and later moved to Sea Girt.
She graduated from Manasquan High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan University.
Mrs. Dickson was an active business person. She co-founded Dickson Supply Co. Brielle, in 1946, with her late husband of 46 years, Allan J. Dickson.
She enjoyed traveling and sports. Mrs. Dickson was a long time member of the Manasquan River Golf Club. She also had been a bowler, participating in various Shore Area leagues.
Mrs. Dickson is survived by her son and his wife, Allan and Margaret; three grandchildren Robert D. Merriken, Heather G. Merriken and Abbey D. Holloway and two great-grandchildren Trevor R. and Finn O. Holloway. She also is survived by nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her daughter Bonnie G. Dickson, a grandchild Trevor A. Dickson, and her brother, Thomas S. Birckhead.
Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements. A funeral Mass will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, in Manasquan. Interment
will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, in Brielle.

Robert C. Hudson
Robert C. Hudson, 56, of Wall Township, died Sunday Sept. 5 at his home.
Born in Neptune, he has lived in Wall Township all of his life.
Mr. Hudson was an electrician for I.B.E.W Local No. 400 in Wall. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local No. 400 in Wall and the Wall Fire Company No. 1.
Mr. Hudson was pre-deceased by his wife, Kerry in 2008 and two brothers, Kevin, in 1994 and John, in 1998.
He is survived by his son, Thomas R. and his daughter, Katie L., both at home, his mother, Viola [Simpson], one brother, James, of N. Palm Beach, Fla., two sisters, Patricia Travers, of Wall and Beth Carlomusto, of Melbourne, Fla., three grandchildren, Liam, Aidan and Theresa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.
Cremation was private.
