Florence Barrelli
Charleston, S.C. resident Florence Barrelli, formerly of Avon, died Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the Life Care Center in Charleston, S.C.
She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Barrelli was born in Newark and lived in Maplewood, Avon, and Lakewood before coming to Charleston in 2002.
Mrs. Barrelli worked in retail with Bonwit Teller in Short Hills.
She was a past president of the Irvington Lyon’s Club Auxiliary, past president of the Short Hills Business and Professional Women’s Club, and a member of the Maplewood Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth RC Church in Avon.
She was predeceased by her husband Salvatore in 1975, her daughter in law Helen, and three sisters, Myrtle Hock, Elsie Restanio, and Eleanor McInnes.
Surviving are her sons Richard of Manchester, Charles and his wife Marianne of Carlsbad, Calif., and her daughter Lois Evans and her husband John of Charleston, S.C. She also leaves two sisters Dorothy D’Alessio and Marion Clementi. Also survived are six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Services were held at St. Catherine’s cemetery in Sea Girt.

Charlotte A. Gashlin
Manasquan resident Charlotte A. Gashlin has died.
Born in and longtime resident of Irvington, she was secretary of the Second Reform Church, followed by 16 years at NJ Transit in Maplewood.
After a lifetime of summers at the shore, Manasquan became her home in 1994.
Mrs. Gashlin is survived by her loving husband Edward of 61 years and is also survived by three sons, James and his wife Arlene of Fairport, N.Y., Thomas of Southport Fla., and Edward and his wife Patricia of Toms River. She was also grandmother to James, Nicole, Jeffrey, Ryan, Tara, and Christopher. Charlotte also leaves many nieces and nephews and many friends. This gracious lady will be sadly missed.
Funeral services were handled by Neary Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan, with internment at the Atlantic View cemetery in Manasquan.

Eleanor M. Sychowski
West Belmar resident Eleanor M. Sychowski died Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center.
She was 94 years old.
She lived in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., before moving to West Belmar in the early 1970’s. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Rose Church and its Altar Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her husband John.
Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Lois Morella, Jacquelyn Foreman of Long Island, N.Y., Richard Geyer of Rochester, N.Y., Hugh McKenna of Belmar, and Joanne Ballack of Allenwood.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Rose Church. Internment was held at St. Charles cemetery in Long Island.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Rose Altar and Rosary Society would be appreciated.
Reilly Funeral Home in Belmar was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Ryan
Brielle resident Mary Ryan died Friday, Nov. 28.
She was 68 years old.
Born in Pittsburgh to Michael and Dorothy Mullen, Mary was raised with her brother and sister before joining the US Navy as a Nurse, where she met her darling Richard Ryan.
Mary and Richard wed and moved to Brielle with their seven children. A proud member of both the Manasquan River Golf Club and the Manasquan River Yacht Club, Mary loved to socialize, laugh, and spend time with her dear friends.
Mary’s love and caring extended beyond her family and friends, involving her in many fund-raising efforts, most notably at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. Always a bright star in any setting, Mary welcomed all with a big smile, a warm hello, and sincere interest. She will be dearly missed.
Nothing made Mary more proud than her family. She is survived by Steven and his wife Holly of Tuckerton, Michael of Red Bank, Matthew and his wife Anne of Fair Haven, and the late Richard Jr. She is also survived by daughters Patricia and husband Thomas McAndrew of Pt. Pleasant Beach, Deborah and her husband William Malloy of Royersford, Pa., and Mary Carol and her husband John Schantz of Forked River. Mary received great joy from all 12 grandchildren: Jimmy, Melissa, Kevin, Christopher, Shannon, Brian, Madeline, Meghan, Megan, Ryan, Julia, and Matthew.
Funeral arrangements were handled by O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. Mass was held at St. Margaret’s Church in Spring Lake, with burial at St Catherine’s cemetery in Sea Girt.
Nicholas “Nicky Gears” Diunte
Berkeley Township resident Nicholas, “Nicky Gears” Diunte, formerly of Lavallette, died Friday, Oct. 24.
He was 70 years old.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Lavallette before moving to Berkeley Township in 1994.
Mr. Diunte was a truck driver for 42 years until his retirement in 2003.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Diunte is survived by Rosalie DeFranco; his children, Nicholas Diunte, of New York and Melissa Diunte, of New York; his brother, Isadore Diunte, of New York, and his sister Rose Crudo, of New York.
The Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River, was in charge in of arrangements. Interment
took place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.
Joan Gloria DeRose Lauer
Brick resident Joan Gloria DeRose Lauer, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Oct. 28.
She was 70 years old.
Born in Montclair, to the late Joseph and Laura DeRose, she had lived in Point Pleasant, Manchester and Florida prior to moving to Brick.
Joan was a homemaker and former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Point Pleasant Boro Fire Company No. 2
She was predeceased by her son, Steven Lauer.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, of nearly f49 years, George Lauer Sr.; one son, George Lauer Jr. and his wife, Diane; and one daughter, Joanne Sadowski, and her husband, Richard, all of Manchester; one brother, Raymond DeRose; and four grandchildren, Melloney and Richard Sadowski and Lucas and Austin Lauer.
The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements. A service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at the funeral home. Interment
will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Ann N. Zylinski
Lavallette resident Anne N. Zylinski died Wednesday, Oct. 22, in Southern Ocean Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Stafford.
She was 94 years old.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Zylinski summered in Lavallette from 1951 until she became a permanent resident in 1974.
She was a bookkeeper for Pabst Brewing Co., Newark, and retired in 1974.
She was past secretary of the Lavallette Seniors and a member of the Altar Rosary Society of The Parish of St. Pio of Petrelcina.
The wife of the late William F. Zylinski, Mrs. Zylinski is survived by a son, William D. Zylinski, of Lavallette; a daughter, Carol A. Devine, of Manahawkin, Stafford; six grandchildren, Tom Devine, Veronica DeFranza, William W. Zylinski, Clarissa Sakowicz, David W. Zylinski and Laura Batyr; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
will be at the convenience of the family.

Madeline M. Tooker
Brick resident Madeline M. Tooker, with family in Point Pleasant, died Friday, Oct. 24 in Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.
She was 79 years old.
Born in North Bergen, she had lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Brick five years ago.
She was a registered nurse at Point Pleasant Hospital for 23 years before retiring 13 years ago. Prior to that, she worked at St. Francis Hospital, Jersey City.
She was a linear descendant of the Revolutionary Patriot families the Irons and the Applegates.
She attended St. Dominic’s Academy, Jersey City, and attended Rutgers University, Jersey City. She graduated from Ocean County College of Nursing. She was a member of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Brick.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Eleanor Tooker. She is survived by her sister, Grace Donohue, of Point Pleasant Beach; and a brother, George Tooker, of Florida.
She was the beloved aunt of Brian Donohue, David Donohue and his wife, Inger, and Sean Donohue and his wife, Deborah; and two nieces Kathleen and her husband, Dennis Granstad, and Maureen and Fred Loveland.
The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Burial
took place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Helen Kerchner
Point Pleasant Beach resident Helen Kerchner died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 22, peace in Ocean Medical Center, surrounded by loving family.
She was 87 years old.
Born in Perth Amboy, she lived in Point Pleasant Beach for the last three years with her daughter.
A communicant of Holy Spirit Church in Perth Amboy, she was a dedicated member of the alter rosary society and the senior citizen. Helen loved her church and helping others and will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen J. Kerchner, in 1983; and a brother, Peter Fedor.
Cherished mother of Stephen Kerchner, of Milford, and his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Linda Betsch, of Point Pleasant Beach; two sisters, Mary Baczkowski and Eleanor Kwasnofski and her husband, Joseph, all of Perth Amboy; a brother, Steve Fodor of Carteret, and five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The Zylka Funeral Home, Perth Amboy, was in charge of arrangements. Burial
took place at Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Fords.
