James C. Stanley Jr.
Point Pleasant resident James C. Stanley, Jr. died Monday, Oct. 20, after a long battle with emphysema.
He was 69 years old.
He was raised in Wall.
He served in the U.S Air Force and worked in sales for many years.
He was a very loved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy; three daughters, Karen Savage, of Harrisburg, N.C., Debbie Wysocki, of Collegeville, Pa., and Jackie Oliver, of Ocean Township; five grandchildren, Alex, Sam and Ashley Wysocki and Sarah and Julia Savage; his mother-in-law; a brother; and two sisters.
The family is having a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
Vera Morris Hallman
Seaford, Del. resident Vera Morris Hallman, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Coastal Hospice at The Lake Salisbury, Md.
She was 98 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late Charlotte Simpson and D. Clifford Morris.
She was a teacher in the Ocean County school system for 28 years, retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Hallman was a graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma [Teachers Honorary Society.]
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Raymond Wilson Hallman, in 2001; and her son, Glenn G. Loveland, in 2001.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Cliff Loveland and Alison Jones; a great-grandson, Robby Jones; and a sister, Jean Patterson, of West Grove, Pa.
Funeral arrangements were by Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Seaford, Del.
Gilbert G. Decker
Point Pleasant resident Gilbert G. Decker died Sunday, Oct. 19, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 83 years old.
Born in Newark, he lived in East Orange before moving to Point Pleasant over 20 years ago.
Mr. Decker served as a Baptist minister, then worked at Johnson Hardware, in Point Pleasant, for many years.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, achieving the rank of technical sergeant. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with three Bronze Star Clusters and the EAME Theater Medal with three Bronze Stars. He later served in the New Jersey National Guard.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, in 1999; and his brother, Donald Decker Sr., in 2004.
Surviving are a niece, Carrie Gavriloff, of Williamstown; a nephew, Donald Decker Jr., of Egg Harbor Township; a sister-in-law, Kay Decker, of Brick; and two great-nieces, Katie McKeever, of Tinton Falls, and Heather Vinick, of Sewell.
Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette, was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Kenneth M. Young Jr.
Wall resident Dr. Kenneth M. Young Jr., whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, in his home.
He was 74 years old.
Born in Elizabeth, and after growing up in Roselle Park, Kenneth had a desire to practice medicine. He attended Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, and then went on to study medicine at New York Medical College, New York City. He then served his Internship at the former Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, and a fellowship at Newark City Hospital and the East Orange V.A.
Kenneth went on to proudly serve as a captain in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon.
After having fulfilled his duties, Dr. Young went to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he helped to create the first endoscopy room.
In his leisure time, Kenneth enjoyed golf and was a member of the Material Dealers Golf Association of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
But perhaps the only thing Kenneth loved more than his country and medicine were his loving wife of 49 years, Susan, and his daughters, Debbie and Christine.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Susan; a daughter, Debbie and her husband, Ace Bottone, of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Christine, and her husband, Barry Jost Sr., of Wall; and his four grandchildren, Andrew Bottone, Barry Jost Jr., Matthew Bottone and Brittany Jost.
Kenneth Young has touched countless lives, and will be missed by many.
The O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall handled the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dr. Young’s name to The First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan Youth Mission Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Alanna R. Olson
Point Pleasant resident Alanna R. Olson died Tuesday, Oct. 21.
She was 29 years old.
Alanna was born July 21, 1979 in Paterson. She grew up in Holmdel before moving to Point Pleasant in 1999.
Alanna graduated from Holmdel High School in 1997 and attended Brookdale Community College and Dean College.
In Alanna’s lifetime, she was an award-winning athlete and artist who also worked as a model before starting and running an online business. Among her friends and family, she was described as a sweet, loving, generous and faithful friend and a gentle soul. She was a lover of animals and gave generously to charity. She impacted the lives of all she came in contact with. She will be forever missed in our hearts.
Surviving in her honor are her parents, David Olson and Ann Doherty; and three siblings, Todd Olson, of Middletown, Erik Olson, of Durham, N.C., and twin Cara Olson Shamseldin, of Middletown.
The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown was in charge of arrangements.
Anne Heslin
Manasquan resident Anne Heslin, formerly of the Bronx, N.Y., died Friday, Oct. 24 at home.
Anne was born in Yonkers and lived in the Bronx most of her life before moving to Manasquan eight years ago.
She is a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y.
She retired in 1990 from her job as an administrator with the department of sanitation for the City of New York.
Anne is a former parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church, in Kings Bridge, N.Y., and St. Denis Catholic Church, in Manasquan.
Anne is predeceased by her four brothers: John, Joseph, James and Robert Heslin.
Surviving is her brother, Daniel Heslin, of Muriette, Calif., and her four sisters-in-law: Alicia Heslin, Marie Heslin, Margaret Heslin, and Theresa Heslin, of Manasquan.
She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, in Manasquan. Entombment took place at the Queen of Peace Chapel in The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Hawthorne, N.Y.
Margaret A. Tracy
Brielle resident Margaret A. Tracy died Tuesday, Oct. 28 at her home, with her children by her side.
She was 75 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Spring Lake before moving to Brielle 14 years ago.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Tracy was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Tracy, in 1990.
She is survived by one son, James, of San Diego, Calif., and three daughters: Margaret Tracy Heller and her husband, Matt, of Boston, Mass.; Millie McCumsey and her husband, James, of Brielle; and Christine Tracy and Ken Ledgard of San Diego, Calif.
She also leaves a sister, Sylvia Panza, of Manchester, and six grandchildren: Brian Kirk, Jamie, Matt and Chris McCumsey, and Meghan and Samuel Heller.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan. Funeral services will be held at Neary-Quinn on Friday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. Internment will take place at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall Township.
