Joseph A. Crowley
Joseph A. Crowley, formerly of Bradley Beach, died Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Mr. Crowley lived in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune Township.

He was 77 years old.

Joe was born in Jackson Heights, N.Y. He married Betty Ann Slocum in 1954, and they moved to Bradley Beach in 1956, then to Neptune in 1963.

Joe was a letter-carrier in Bradley Beach for over 35 years, retiring in 1992. Joe served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was elected to the Neptune Township Board of Education in 1972, and served as its vice president and chairman of the athletic committee. He was appointed Neptune Township recreation director, and served from 1975 to 1980. He was past committee chairman of the Shark River Hills Cub Scouts, and a former member of the Red and Black Booster Club for the West Neptune Minor League and Neptune Soccer Association.

Joe was a communicant of the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach, where he served as a eucharistic minister and altar server, as well as president of the Holy Name Society. He was also past president of the Monmouth County Federation of Holy Name Societies, and past vice president of the Diocese of Trenton Holy Name Societies.

Joe was a diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox. His love and devotion for the team could only be surpassed by his love for his wife and family. He was also a great fan of the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, Notre Dame, and the Green Bay Packers.

Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty, and beloved son, Joseph. He was also predeceased by: his parents, Mae and James Crowley; his mother- and father-in-law, Harry and Emiline Slocum, and their son, Thomas; his two brothers, James and William; and four of his sisters, Miriam, Jane, Ann Marie, and Ellen.

He is survived by his children: John, and his wife, Helen, of Pine Beach; Catherine, of Tinton Falls; Cynthia Ann and her husband, Garth Greer, of Wall Township; Betty Ann, of Pine Beach; Colleen Mary and her husband, Brian Eaton, of Pine Beach; and his daughter-in-law, Lorrie, of Wall Township.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren who he adored: Garth, Bridget and Amy Greer; Joseph, Caytie and Carolyn Crowley; Maggie and Shealyn Crowley; and Brian and Harry Eaton.

He also leaves: his sister, Kathleen, and her husband, John Bohne, of Delaware; and her brother-in-law, Michael, and his wife, Lynn Slocum, of Florida.

He was a loving husband, a devoted father, an excellent grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be truly missed.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Reilly Funeral Home in Belmar. Internment took place at St. Anne’s cemetery in Wall.

Karin Devine
Jackson resident Karin Devine passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23 at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. Mrs. Devine had family in Brielle.

She was 44 years old.

Karin was born in Annsbach, Germany and formerly lived in Eatontown before moving to Jackson. Karin enjoyed spending time with her three children, loved music and was a former flag twirler at Monmouth Regional High School.

Karin leaves behind three beloved children, Sean, Colleen and Allison, and their father, John Devine, all of Brielle. She is also survived by: her parents, Theodore and Hilde Erickson, of Beaver, W. Va.; her brother, Ronald, of Ocean Township; her brother, Raymond, and his wife, Antoinette, of Beaver, W. Va.; and many Devine family relatives from Red Bank.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Orender Family Home for Funerals, in Manasquan.

Henriette Tarbotton
Lake Como resident Henriette Tarbotton died on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was 78 years old.

Born in Friedberg, Germany, she came to the United States in 1954, residing in Belmar before moving to Lake Como in 1995.

A devoted homemakerm Mrs. Tarbotton was an avid knitter who loved to crochet.

Mrs. Tarbotton was pre- deceased by her parents, Heinrich Schuchardt and Gretel Walter Schuchardt, her granddaughter, Jennifer, her brother, Walter Schuchardt, of Germany, and her sister-in-law, Marianne, of Germany.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 54 years, William Tarbotton, of Lake Como, her devoted children, Elizabeth Purdie and her husband, George, of Brick, and Klaus Tarbotton and his wife, Susan, of Hillsborough.

Mrs. Tarbotton is also survived by her very special grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Aimee, Devon and his wife, Peggy, Justin, Eric, Amanda, Allison, and Layna, in addition to her great grandchildren, Cameron, Jack, Joseph, Patrick and Liam.

Mrs. Tarbotton is also survived by her brothers, Helmut Schuchardt, of Germany, Klaus Schuchardt and his wife, Renate, of Germany, Heinz Schuchardt and his wife, Dieta, of Germany, her sister, Helga Lentine, and her husband, Michael, of Cream Ridge, and her sister-in-law, Margot, of Germany.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home in Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Tarbotton can be made to a charity of your choice or to Meridian Hospice at 4900 Route 33, Suite 200, Neptune 07753.

Imperia “Pat” Fela
Imperia “Pat” Fela, of Toms River, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Ocean Medica Center in Brick. Mrs. Fela had family in Manasquan.

She was 82 years old.

Mrs. Fela was born in Pisa, Italy and came to the United States in 1947. She lived in Lyndhurst before moving to Greenbriar Woodlands, in Toms River, 20 years ago.

Pat was an assembler with Western Electric in Kearny for 28 years.

She is predeceased by her husbands, Frank Fela and John McCarthy.

Surviving are her daughter, Janet G. DaCruz, of Manasquan, and her son and his wife, Thomas G. and Ann Marie Fela, of Old Bridge.

She leaves many loving grandchildren: Donna DaCruz Lloyd, Daniel DaCruz, Frank and Cara Fela, and Thomas Fela.

She also leaves six great-grandchildren: Devin, Melissa, Phoenix, Julia, Reed, and Evan.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan. Internment took place at Greenwood Cemetery, in Brielle.

Lawrence J. Leming
Lawrence J. Leming, of Elberon, died on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He was 71 years old.

Lawrence was born and raised in the borough of Neptune City.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the military police for three years, being honorably discharged in 1959.

In 1960, he was appointed to the Neptune City Police Department, where he served as a patrolman. In 1963, he was appointed as the borough’s juvenile law enforcement officer and member of the Patrolman Benevolent Association, Local No. 50.

In 1965, Mr. Leming left the police department and joined the Walter Reade Theatre Organization. He was employed by the Fifty State Agency as a licensed real estate agent and insurance representative. In 1966, he was appointed as assistant real estate manager for the Walter Reade Theatre Organization. In this capacity, he was responsible for all rental supervision and land acquisition for the organization in the Western United States. During that period of time, Mr. Leming attended Professional School of Business in Millburn, majoring in property and casualty life insurance, and obtained his state insurance broker’s license. In 1968, Mr. Leming joined the E and K Agency, Inc., as a real estate and insurance sales associate.

Mr. Leming was a member of the National, State and County Board of Realtors. He was a member of the State Million Dollar Club for ten consecutive years, and insurance consultant and public speaker for the State of New Jersey Laundromat Association.

Mr. Leming was involved with many community and civil service organizations. He was a member of the Neptune City First Aid Squad from 1961 to 1973, Cub Master in the Borough of Neptune City, member of the Asbury Park Lion’s Club, member of the Neptune City-Avon V.F.W., Chairman for CAP Little League Baseball in West Long Branch, and coach of the West Long Branch Sports Association Soccer and Little League.

Mr. Leming has also been the president of the Monmouth County Lodge No. 1215, a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and a member of the Order Sons of Italy in America since 1985. One of Mr. Leming’s greatest accomplishments was to bring women into the Sons of Italy lodge as regular members, not on an auxiliary status but allowing them all privileges that were previously enjoyed only by men.

Mr. Leming also spearheaded numerous fund-raising campaigns and events for a long list of charitable organizations, including Cooley’s Anemia, Ronald McDonald House, Deborah Hospital, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Foundation and the Monmouth-Ocean County Food Bank.

In 1991, he began his restaurant career. In the years to follow, he opened Leming’s Landing North in Long Branch, Leming’s Landing South in Belmar, and Mr. Shrimp in Belmar, together with his partner, Vincent Petruzziello.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ensley and Frances Vola Leming, and his son, Daniel.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Maggie, from Leesburg, Fla.; and his children: Lawrence and Tina Leming, of Wall; Jeffrey and Susan Leming, of Toms River; Mary and Michael Broidy, of South Hampton, N.Y.; Karen Leming, of Holland; and Alexandra at home.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Reilly Funeral Home in Belmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at Saint Rose Roman Catholic Church in Belmar. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.

Dr. Kenneth M. Young Jr.
Wall Township resident Dr. Kenneth M. Young, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at his home.

He was 74 years old.

Born in Elizabeth, and after growing up in Roselle Park, Kenneth had a desire to practice medicine. He attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., and then went on to study medicine at New York Medical College in New York City. He then served his internship at the former Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, and a fellowship at Newark City Hospital and the East Orange VA.

Kenneth went on to proudly serve as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon. After having fulfilled his duties, Dr. Young went to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he helped to create the first endoscopy room.

In his leisure time, Kenneth enjoyed golf and was a member of the Material Dealers Golf Association of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

But perhaps the only things Kenneth loved more than his country and medicine were his loving wife of 49 years, Susan, and his daughters, Debbie and Christine.

Kenneth is survived by: his wife, Susan; his daughter, Debbie, and her husband, Ace Bottone, of Point Pleasant; his daughter, Christine, and husband, Barry Jost, Sr. of Wall Township.

He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Andrew Bottone, Barry Jost, Jr., Matthew Bottone, and Brittany Jost.

Kenneth Young has touched countless lives, and will be missed by many.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dr. Young’s name to The First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan Youth Mission Fund or the American Cancer Society.
