Kathryn S. Steenland
Wall Township resident Kathryn S. Steenland entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Oct. 25. She was surrounded by her children, and is now at peace.
She was 85 years old.
Born in Lambertville to Norman and Harriet Fulper, Kathryn grew up as one of ten children on the family farm.
Always serving others, Kathryn received her degree as a registered nurse from Jersey City Medical Center, and then went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army as a nurse during World War II. She met her husband, Richard, in Manasquan, and went on to 43 years of marriage until Richard’s passing in 1993.
Together, they raised three wonderful children, Richard, Jr., Pamela, and John, in Clifton. Kathryn was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clifton. Kathryn’s great love and passion was for her family, God and her country. She was known for her generosity and kindness to friends and family, evidenced by her unceasing service to all. She will be missed by many.
Kathryn is survived by: her daughter, Pamela Steenland-Indahl, and her husband, Dr. Ken Indahl, of Mantoloking; her son, Richard, Jr., and his wife, Doreen, of Spring Lake; her son, John, of Nashville, Tenn.; and her three beloved grandchildren, Anna, Benjamin and Sarah Steenland.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall.
The family invites you to join them today at the funeral home from 9 to 9:30 a.m. before processing to Kathryn’s final resting place, Mount Hebron cemetery in Upper Montclair.
Thomas R. Nagaska
Thomas R. Nagaska, of Brielle, passed away Sunday, Oct. 12 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
He was 84 years old.
Tom was born in Cedar Knolls. He had recently moved back to New Jersey from Garden Grove, Calif., where he lived for many years. He had worked his whole life as the best automotive and marine mechanic there ever was, working for Boulevard Buick in Long Beach, Calif., and previously for Winters Yacht Basin in Bricktown.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in North Africa and Italy. He was in the First Battalion, 168th Infantry Regiment, and received a citation for outstanding performance of duty for seizing and holding positions on Mount Pantano in Italy.
Tom’s favorite pastime was saltwater fishing from the piers, jetties, or beach. He enjoyed listening to country music and watching sports. His favorites were the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim baseball teams.
Tom was predeceased by his loving wife of 30 years, Irene, in 1992. They were inseparable, and he spoke of her daily. They are now happily together for eternity. He was also predeceased by his grandsons: James E. R. Moss, Jr., in 1968; and Matthew D. Moss, in 1974. His sister, Mary Stilec, also predeceased him in 1967.
Tom is survived by: his daughter, Carol Ann Broderick, Brielle; one sister, Doris Pella, Whippany; his grandson, Bryan K. Moss; his grandson, Adam W. Moss, and his wife, Tiffani; two great-grandsons, Ethan Chu and Brody Moss.
He leaves six nieces: Mary Ann Fox and her husband, John; Lorraine Fornini and her husband, Mario; Dorothy Strilec; Deborah Burns; Sandi Pela; and Wendy Lukowitz.
He also leaves six nephews: Raymond Strilec and his wife, Joanne; Edward Pela and his wife, Angie; John Pela and his wife, Karen; and Steven, Barry, and Brian Lukowitz.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Neary Quinn Funeral Home at 39 South Street, in Manasquan, at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to that, from 4 to 7 p.m. Cremation will be private.

Mildred Bush Odell
Mildred Bush Odell, of Tinton Falls, died on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Mrs. Odell had family in Wall Township.
She was 81 years old.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she was a longtime resident of Bayonne, and also lived in Cresco, Pa. before moving to Tinton Falls 12 years ago.
Mrs. Odell was employed as vice president and general manager of the Port Authority Federal Credit Union in New York City before retiring in 1990. She was a graduate of St. Paul’s School and Henry Snyder High School, both in Jersey City.
Mildred was a former parishioner of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Bayonne, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and later became a communicant at St. Denis Church in Manasquan.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert B. Odell, Sr. in 1993.
She is survived by: her longtime loving caregiver, Yaa Abebrese; her son, Robert B. Odell, Jr., and his wife, Patricia, of Franklin Lakes; her son, Brian Odell, and his wife, Gail, of Wall; her daughter, Linda Postell, and her husband, Gary, of Short Hills; and her daughter, Donna Wyrwa, and her husband, Robert, of Tinton Falls.
She also leaves her loving grandchildren: Robert B. Odell III, Jeffrey Wyrwa, Michael Odell, Robert Wyrwa, Elizabeth Odell.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Nathaniel Odell, and his wife, Catherine, of Wall.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. Burial
took place at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Meridian Hospice at 1340A Campus Parkway, Neptune, 07753.
Genevieve Richlan
Sea Girt resident Genevieve DeMaio Richlan passed away Thursday, Oct. 23 at her home.
She was 97 years old.
Genevieve was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. She was born and raised in Newark. Genevieve was a first-grade teacher for over 35 years in Lyndhurst. She moved to Sea Girt in 1969. Genevieve enjoyed reading and painting. She decorated her house with many of her paintings.
Genevieve was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Vincent Richlan, in February 2008, and two sisters: Violet DeMaio, in June 2005, and Helen Zamarra, in May 2008.
She is survived by: a niece and her husband, Nancy and Robert Leete, of Manasquan; a nephew, Dr. John Zamarra, of California; and several other great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Orender Family Home for Funerals, in Manasquan. Interment
took place at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.
Ruth T. Dodd
Wall Township resident Ruth T. Dodd passed away Monday, Oct. 20 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
She was 73 years old.
Mrs. Dodd was born in Neptune, raised in West Allenhurst, and moved to Wall Township in 1956. She was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and Asbury Park Business College.
Ruth was a licensed practical nurse, working at Freehold Area Hospital.
She was the church organist for 21 years at St. James Episcopal Church in Bradley Beach.
Her memberships include: American Guild of Organists, Princeton Musical Amateur Society, Sweet Adeline’s, and St. James Episcopal Church.
She is predeceased by: her husband, Richard C. Dodd, in 1992; her son, Geoffrey, in 1959; her brother, George Taylor; and her sister, Annette Silvers.
She is survived by her children: Gregory Dodd, of Wall Township; Stephen Dodd and his wife, Lauren, of Brick; Elaine Dodd, of Brick; Joan Davenport, and her husband, Kevin, of Wall Township.
She also leaves three grandchildren: Erica, Amanda, and Christopher.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home at 39 South Street, in Manasquan. A funeral mass will be offered Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Bradley Beach. Internment will follow in Greenwood cemetery in Brielle.

Philip Lucien Adamo
Wall Township resident Philip Lucien Adamo died Friday, Oct. 17 at the Neptune Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was 78 yers old.
Born in Newark, Philip was raised in Irvington and graduated from Irvington High School. After high school, he joined the military and was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Philip moved to Wall 46 years ago with his wife, and this is where they raised their five children. He was a baseball coach for North Wall Little League.
Philip worked at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark before he was a cigar and tobacco salesman and proud owner of Nobles Smoke Shop in Point Pleasant Beach for over 20 years. It is here that he acquired many life-long friends with whom he enjoyed playing cards and going to the racetrack.
Philip was predeceased by his parents, Ann and Carl Adamo, his brother, Carl Adamo, and his two sons, Gregory Adamo and Philip Adamo.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Joan Adamo, three children - David Adamo, Gina Lyons and her husband, Michael, and Patricia Adamo - and a brother, Frank Adamo.
He also leaves 11 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be offered Friday at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune. Committal will follow in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.

Charles W. McKenney
Manasquan resident Charles W. McKenney passed away Thursday, Oct. 16 at Renaissance Gardens in Tinton Falls.
He was 93 years old.
Known to his friends as “Red, ” Mr. McKenney was born in Newark and lived in Manasquan for many years, moving to Seabrook Village, in Tinton Falls, in 2003.
He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He was a member of the Manasquan Elks, the Manasquan-Brielle Rotary, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Free and Accepted Mason Lodge No. 9. He was the foudning president of the Shore chapter of the TWA Seniors and the Brielle Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. McKenney was employed as an inspector with the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles, after retiring from TWA Airlines, where he worked as a pilot and flight engineer for 27 years.
He is predeceased by his wife, Helen Dempsey McKenney, in 1970, and his sister, Dorothy Gruen.
Surviving are his daughter, Jo Anne McKenney of McKinley View, Calif., and a grandson, Vincent McKenney.
A memorial gathering was held at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan on Tuesday morning. Internment followed at Greenwood cemetery in Brielle.
