Kirk Werner
Wall Township resident Kirk Werner died on Aug. 2 in New Bedford, Mass.

He was 41 years old.

A lifelong resident of the shore area, he attended schools in Wall and Point Pleasant Beach. He was a dedicated commercial fisherman who worked on boats out of Point Pleasant Beach, New Bedford and Cape May.

Kirk was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Elke Werner.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Gracie Werner, of Wall; his sister, Corinna Werner and her children, Reg, Erica, Brittany, Trina, Trent, and Jacob, of Perth Amboy; and his devoted friend Ann Coiroand her husband Joseph, and their children.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 6 Osborn Ave., Manasquan, 08736 or the charity of your choice.

Ruth Oberg
Wall Township resident Ruth E. Mahon Oberg died Friday, June 20.

She was 82 years old.

She was born in East Orange and later moved to the Brielle-Wall area.

An entrepreneur for more than 45 years, Mrs. Oberg owned and operated the Dinner Bell Restaurant in Brielle from 1945 to 1955, the Windswept Motel in Point Pleasant from 1955 to 1978, and the Ruth Oberg Gallery in Sea Girt from 1978 to 1988.

“Ruthie” and “Mom Mom”, as she was lovingly referred ti by friends and family, was an acid gardener antique and art collector.

Interested in art her whole life, Mrs. Oberg was a long term member of the Edna Hibel Art Society, Palm Beach, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Carlton Oberg, and her daughter, Judith Winterstella.

Mrs. Oberg is survived by her daughter, Sherry Oberg and her husband Gunther Jock; two granddaughters, Judith Razzetti and husband, Richard, and Kristen Breitweiser; three grandchildren, Trey and Lauren Razzetti, and Caroline Breitweiser; a nephew, Ron Mahon and wife Diana; a great niece, Tempe Mahon and a great nephew, Thor Mahon.

Ruthie’s family acknowledges with sincere thanks the enduring, compassionate care she received from Dr. Mori Schwartzberg, Neptune and Dr. Michael Findura, of Wall.

A private graveside ceremony is planned for fall.

Dorothy Farrell
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Dorothy A. Grey Farrell died on Thursday, Aug. 29 at her home.

She was 96 years old.

Born and raised in Newark, she lived in East Orange before coming to Avon in the 1940’s. Mrs. Farrell was employed by the City of Newark Board of Education as a teacher at Barringer High School, before retiring. She was a class of 1931 graduate of Benedictine Academy, and earned her bachelors degree from St. Elizabeth’s College in 1935. She went on to earn her masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1937. She was a long time communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Avon and was member of the Leisure Club Seniors of Avon, the Avon Women’s Club and the St. Elizabeth’s College Alumnae Associations Monmouth and Ocean Chapter and former member of Essex County Chapter.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vincent DePaul Farrell, noted basketball official for international competitions and Olympic Games, in 1989.

She is survived by her cousins, Regina Loughlin and, daughter, Regina Loughlin Killain; her sisters-in-law, Mary Serbe Merz and Marie O’Neil; many nieces and nephews; and her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hwyl and family.

Burial was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the College of St. Elizabeth, Cmdr. & Mrs. Vincent DePaul Farrell Scholarship, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, 07960.

David Clark
Spring Lake and Staten Island resident David C. Clark died on Saturday, Aug. 30, at his summer home in Beach Haven, Long Beach Island.

He was 43 years old.

Mr. Clark was a decorated New York City firefighter, whose current assignment was with Ladder 77, of Stapleton, Staten Island. He started his career in the FDNY at Engine 28 in the lower east side of NYC and continued onto Engine 69 in Harlem. On 9-11-2001, Mr. Clark responded with members of his fire company to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He spent the following months searching and retrieving fellow firefighters, and other victims from Ground Zero. Two years later, in October 2003 he was first to respond with Ladder 77 to the Staten Island Ferry disaster. Mr. Clark was also a licensed plumber in both New York, and New Jersey and the owner of DC Clark Plumbing and Heating, also known as Sprung Leak Plumbing. He was a member of the FDNY Emerald Society, and an avid sports fan unique in his love of both the N.Y. Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Clark was a graduate of St. Joseph by the Sea High School on Staten Island, and Mechanics’ Institute in New York City. He was born and raised on Staten Island, and lived in Manhattan several years before moving to Spring Lake five years ago. For 20 years, he also loved to spend summers on Long Beach Island with his family and friends.

Surviving are his loving wife of 16 years, Kristin Dana Clark; his daughter, Emma, 10, and his son Kevin, 7; his parents, Daniel Clark, of Charlottesville, Va., and Sandra Mufti, of Staten Island; and his sister, Laura Orecchio, of Point Pleasant. He also leaves a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, in-laws and dear friends.

Burial was held at Greenwood cemetery in Brielle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clark Children Educational Fund, c/o Ladder 77, 74 Broad St., Staten Island, NY 10304.

Catherine Newton
Belmar resident Catherine M. Newton died peacefully at the MediCenter in Neptune.

She was 95 years old.

She was born in Trenton, and lived in Belmar for 50 years before moving to Neptune.

Catherine was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church since 1944 and very active in the choir and as a Deaconess, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Earlier in her days, Catherine was a Girl Scout Leader and an active member of the Glendola-Allenwood Grange. Catherine traveled the world and spread joy wherever she went.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Donald Newton, in 1979; by a daughter, Donalda Newton Zwarg, in 1994; and her sister, Elizabeth Frances in 2000.

Surviving are her granddaughter, Sabrina DiGuiseppe, of Wall; her grandson, Kyle Zwarg, of Cape Coral, Fla.; great-grandson, Ryan DiGuiseppe; a great-great grandson of Belmar; as well as nieces, Judy Crosby, of Wall, Anne Keleigh, of Manasquan, Roberta Korkowski, of Piscataway; and many great nieces and great nephews, extended family and beloved friends.

Burial was held at Maplewood cemetery in Freehold.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Ronald McDonald House, Attn. Charitable Accounting, One Kroc Drive, Oak Brook, Ill., 60523.

Diana Oram
Sea Girt resident Diana Fox Oram died peacefully in her home on Sunday, Aug. 31, after a lengthy and courageous battle against kidney cancer.

She was 66 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., her childhood was spent in Red Bank and she was a graduate of Middletown High School. She lived in Hightstown for many years before moving to Sea Girt in 1991.

She was a devoted and loving wife and mother whose creativity, inventiveness and varied skills made her a superb and joyous homemaker, a fact appreciated by family and friends who benefitted not only from the warmth of the home she made, but also from her radiant smile, her good humor and her laughter.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Raymond; her son, Jeffrey, of Mendham; her daughter, Lesley, of Brooklyn; her brother, Dennis, of Berkeley, Calif.; her sister, Laurie, of Brookline, Mass.; and her six grandchildren, Kathryn, Ryan, Emily, Patrick, Michael and Ian.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702.

Funeral services are private and under the direction of Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Cathleen Frank
West Belmar resident Cathleen Anne Smith Frank died on Friday, Aug. 29 surrounded by her entire family.

She was 42 years old.

The world will definitely be a much sadder place without her because Cathy was truly an angel right here on earth. Anyone who was privileged to know her will attest to that fact. She was always happy very friendly and in a good mood. Cathy was the most sincere gentle, caring, giving, and loving lady God ever created. Cathy could literally light up a room with her warmth and that oh so beautiful, beautiful smile. Her loss is absolutely incalculable. Cathy was a trophy wife and a homemaker who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed rafting and biking. Cathy was a member of Wall United Methodist Church. Born in Point Pleasant and lived in Spring Lake before moving to West Belmar 19 years ago. Cathy would be so proud to know that through her death and her participation in the Sharing Network, she has provided someone very special to be able to have a better quality of life.

Cathy was predeceased by her mother, Sharon, in 1971; her maternal grandmother, Frankie D. Clayton, in 1989; and her paternal grandmother, Winifred J. Smith, in 1999.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Steven Frank, of West Belmar; three sons, Justin Frank, of Wilmington, N.C., and Brian Frank and Nickolas Frank, both of Wall; her father, Keith Smith, of Wall; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Brian Smith, of Neptune and Gary and Jeanne Smith, of Wall; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Cynthia and Robert J. Kortenhaus, of Howell, Lisa and Jerry Wyckoff, of Tinton Falls and Laura and Hans Kerekes, of Lenoir, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews, Robert D. Kortenhaus, Sharon Kortenhaus, Kevin Smith, Emily Smith, Joanna Smith, Liam Smith, Cassie Garruzzo, Frankie Garruzzo, Anthony Garruzzo, Trevor Frank and Matthew Frank; and her dear friend Kelly Mullaney.

Interment was held at Wall Church Cemetery, Spring Lake Heights.

Joseph Kingston
Spring Lake Heights resident Joseph Lionel Kingston [AKA Joseph Louis Aron Jr.] died peacefully on the morning of Sept. 2.

He was 78 years old.

Born in Passaic in 1930 to Elizabeth Mizsak and Joseph Linus Aron, Joseph proudly served his country during the Korean War where he was a Finance Officer in the U.S. Air Force. Sparking a love of finance, Joseph went on to earn his MBA and work for AT&T in personnel management for 35 years. His pride in his job was only surpassed by his love for his wife, Arlene Halgin, and his daughters Elizabeth and Mary. Joseph moved down to the shore in the late 1960’s, and has been a resident of Spring Lake Heights for over 20 years. Once retiring from AT&T, Joseph’s love of horses brought him to the Monmouth Park Racetrack as a devoted security guard for 18 years.

Surviving are his ex-wife Arlene Kingston; his daughter, Elizabeth Burdge and her husband Ernest Burdge, of Wall; his daughter, Mary Kingston-Bishop and her husband Anthony Bishop, of Charlotte, N.C.; his brother, Edward Kingston, of Virginia; and his grandson, Cole Trafton Bishop.

Visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, on Friday from 5-9 p.m. There will be a Funeral Service by Father Russ of St. Uriel’s Church at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, 08691.

William B. Albert
Avon-by-the-Sea resident William “Bill” B. Albert, formerly of Orange, died at his home surrounded in love and faith on Friday, Aug. 29.

He was 82 years old.

Mr. Albert was born, raised and educated in Orange. He was a graduate of Our Lady of the Valley High School, Class of ‘43 and Notre Dame University Class of ‘47. He excelled as a baseball pitcher and was sought after by pro-teams. His interest in the sport extended into his adult community life when he became coach of the Babe Ruth League in Orange. He and his family relocated to the “Shore” in 1973. He became a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s, where he was an altar server, sacristan, member of the Re-new Committee, Cana and volunteer at the Mercy Center. He was an office administrator for many years with Esso Oil Co. and later a sales representative with Paul Sayers Inc., retiring in 1989.

Mr. Albert was predeceased by his parents, William B. and Mary [nee Keating] Albert; his sisters, Elizabeth Deitz and Lorraine Albert; and in 1988, by his son, William B. Albert Jr.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Anne B. [nee Robson] Albert; his son, Michael and wife, Doreen and daughter, Mary Holt; three sisters, Sr. Mary Albert, M.S.B.T., Sr. Catherine Albert, S.S.J., and Joan Albert Weber; four grandchildren, Brendan, Daniel, Colleen and David; and a great-granddaughter, Kimberly.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Elizabeth, 424 Lincoln Ave., Avon-by-the-Sea.

Arrangements are under the direction of McDonough Funeral Home, Manasquan.
