June C. Reilly Pierce
Point Pleasant resident June Catherine Reilly Pierce died Friday, Feb. 9 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 86 years old.

Born in Saginaw, Mich., June was a resident of Point Pleasant for 61 years.

June earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University at the age of 19.

She taught school for several years in the suburbs of Saginaw in a one-room schoolhouse.

She served as a corporal in the Marines during World War II. June met her husband-to-be during her enlistment.

She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, and a member of Sacred Heart’s Altar Rosary Society and the Senior Cancer Bandage Group.

She was a life member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the Old Guard.

June loved to travel whether by car or camper across the country, or by taking cruises around the world. Wherever she traveled, she was sure to come back with more friends. June will be deeply missed by her children and all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jess V. Pierce; a sister, Gloria; and a brother, Walter.

Surviving are her children, June, San Jose, Calif., Sandra, Brunswick, Ga., Sharon, Point Pleasant, and Jess, South Toms River; and her grandchildren, Brandon of New York, Jennifer of New Jersey, Tammy of New York, Sharma of Michigan, Paul of New Jersey, Jeffrey of Michigan, Brook of New York, Tiffany of New York, Brett of New Jersey, Martin of California, and Jess of New Jersey; and her great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Joshua, Trayton, Benjamin, Emily, and Aiden.

Funeral arrangements were from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick Township. Burial was in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Wall Township.

Mildred C. Gottko
Hammonton resident Mildred C. Plunkett Gottko, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Feb. 9 in Kessler Memorial Hospital, Hammonton.

She was 84 years old.

Born and raised in Kearny, Mrs. Gottko lived in Bayonne and Point Pleasant for 30 years before moving to Hammonton one year ago.

She was employed by Western Electric, Kearny, as a bookkeeper, and retired in 1974.

During her 30 years in Point Pleasant, she was very active as a member of the Sweet Adelines, Stokes Stepper, and Cameo Club, and also volunteered at the former Point Pleasant Hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bertram J. Gottko Sr., in 1987, and her son-in-law, William Broderick.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Bertram J. Jr. and Kathleen Gottko, Spring Hill, Fla., and Richard and Irene Gottko, Edison; two daughters and one-son-in-law, Margarite E. Broderick, Marlton, and Catherine A. Fred Hayes, Hammonton; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Brick. Burial was in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.

Agnes Ness Kidd
Lavallette resident Agnes Ness Kidd died Wednesday, Feb. 7 in her home.

She was 89 years old.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Ms. Kidd moved to North Arlington in 1950, before moving to Lavallette.

She was employed for 31 years with Western Electric, Kearny, before retiring.

She was a member of the Union Church of Lavallette.

She was an active golfer and bowler.

Surviving are her brother, David Kidd and family of Glasgow, Scotland; nieces and nephews, Lachlan and June Cameron, Lavallette, Carol and Brooke Glassman and Staff Sgt. Cameron Kruger, David and Dorothy Cameron, Brenda Irvin and Brian Kain, Marilyn and Ron Trust, Barbara and Duane Tucker, Thomas and Jeannine Kidd, Warren Ward and family, Lionel Scott and family, and Anne Smith and family of Scotland.

Richard Godouse
San Diego, Calif., resident Richard Godouse, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Jan. 25 in his home.

He was a great outdoorsman, and loved to hunt and fish. He was also a top-notch mechanic.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Lina and David Guzman; his granddaughter, Brittney Guzman; his brother and sisters and their spouses, Eleanor Rollano, of Florida, Adolph Godouse, of North Carolina, and Patricia Finn and Mary Anne Godouse, both of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas A. Gallagher
Brielle resident Thomas A. Gallagher, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Feb. 8 in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was 69 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Gallagher moved to Brick in 1955, then to Brielle in 1975.

Tom was the owner/operator of Laurelton Welding Service, Point Pleasant Beach. He started his business in 1962, serving commercial fishing vessels all along the East Coast. He enjoyed his business for 45 years. He was also the proprietor of Cline's Anchorage, Brielle, from 1975 to 1979.

Tom was a man with a strong character and a kind heart. He was a true and generous friend to many people. He was well-respected and very talented in his trade, a true craftsman. Tom was a caring and dedicated father and grandfather. He was very proud of his family. Tom enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his friends the "G" Men and his devoted German Schnauzer, Rudy. Tom had a larger than life personality and will be missed deeply by many friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Gallagher, in 1967; and his mother, Mary Gallagher, in 1994.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Nancy; his children, Sheila and Russell Crane, Howell, Michelle and Lewis Voight, Wall Township, Thomas J. and Virginia Gallagher, Point Pleasant, and Todd Gallagher, Brielle; two brothers, Richard Gallagher and Kevin Gallagher, both of Tennessee; a sister, Joan Gallagher, Whiting, Manchester; 11 grandchildren, Krystal, Russell, Ian, Austin and Madison Crane, Brittany, Alex, Weston, and Mitchell Voight, and Josh and Shannon Gallagher; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Entombment was in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Wall Township.

Sophia Koska Valenti
Bay Head resident Sophia Koska Valenti died Friday, Feb. 9 in her home.

Born in Jewett, Conn., Mrs. Valenti lived in Irvington before moving to Bay Head in 1956.

She was employed for many years as a bill adjuster with Bambergers, Newark, retiring in 1980.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, where she was very active and a member of its Rosary Society.

She was a member of the BeeHive at St. Martha's Church, Point Pleasant, and she also ran an exercise class at St. Martha's.

She was predeceased in 1981 by her husband, Michael Valenti.

Surviving are a son, Michael Valenti, Point Pleasant; a daughter, Joan Crincoli, Cranford; a brother, John Koska, Achusnet, Mass.; six grandchildren, Jane, Joan, Beth, Anthony, Michael, and Christopher; and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Jake, Anthony, Victoria, and Lilyana.

Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. Burial was in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Wall Township.

Rose J. MacDonald
Manchester resident Rose J. MacDonald, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Feb. 9 in her home.

She was 89 years old.

Born in Bayonne, Mrs. MacDonald lived in Point Pleasant for 33 years before moving to Manchester four years ago.

She worked as a seamstress.

She was a communicant of St. Martha's Church, Point Pleasant, and a member of St. Martha's Senior Beehive.

She was predeceased by her husband, George H., in 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Lawrence, Jacksonville, Fla., and James, Manchester; her grandchildren, Tara, Ian, James, Sean, and Laurine; and her great-grandchildren, Joshua and Sean.

Walter J. Finley
Holmdel resident Walter J. Finley, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Sunday, Feb. 11, in Bayshore Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Finley lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Holmdel.

He was a retired police captain and worked for the Jersey City Police Department for 30 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1980.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association.

He was predeceased by his brother, the Rev. James Finley; and his sister, Margaret Bowen.

Surviving are his wife, Carmela Notarmaso Finley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James and Jane Finley, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Michael and Frances Finley, Hazlet; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and John Drennan, Hazlet, and Rosemary and Sean O'Donnell, Point Pleasant; granddaughters, Molly Finley, Jennifer Larkin, Denise Finley, Meghan O'Donnell, Kathryn O'Donnell and Kristen O'Donnell; grandsons, James Finley, John Drennan, Michael Drennan, Michael Finley and James O'Donnell; and great-grandsons, Shane Larkin and Dillon Larkin of Yabucoa.

Richard Withington
Point Pleasant resident Richard W. Withington died Sunday, Feb. 11 in his home.

He was 82 years old.

Born in New York, Mr. Withington lived his whole life in Point Pleasant.

He was a graduate of both Point Pleasant Beach Grammar School and Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1942. He earned both a bachelor’s degree, in 1950, and his law degree from the College of William & Mary.

He had worked for a few local attorneys, Paul Cranmer of Manasquan and Blair & Blair in Point Pleasant Beach. He was admitted to New Jersey Bar and U.S. District Court in 1954, and was permitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1957.

He was an attorney in Point Pleasant for over 50 years.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was involved in over 30 missions over Germany as a waist gunner in B-17s. He served with the 8th Air Force in Great Britain.

He was treasurer of the Ocean County Bar Association from 1962 to 1965 and was their president from 1965 to 1966. He was a charter member of the Brick Kiwanis Club and president in 1964. He was founder/organizer of Pineland State Bank and also director. He was on the Advisory Board and a member of Heritage Bank and Midlantic Bank. He was a member of the Trial Lawyers of America and American Bar Association, a charter member of the VFW in Point Pleasant Beach, and Elks in Point Pleasant Beach, a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club, the 8th Air Force Association, and the Republican Organization of Point Pleasant. He was also a member of the Board of Health in Point Pleasant in 1970 and was counsel for them from 1971 to 1973, and a member of the Ethics Committee in Point Pleasant.

He is survived by his companion, Ruth Toms, Point Pleasant; his sisters, Virginia Withington, Brick Township, and Evelyn Convery, of Montana; a niece, Becky; and three nephews, Patrick, John and Robert.
