Joseph A. Vicari
Point Pleasant resident Joseph Aloysius Vicari died Tuesday, Dec. 26 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 96 years old.
Mr. Vicari was born and raised in Jersey City.
He attended St. John's University, Brooklyn, and left when the Great Depression hit; he needed to work for the family.
Joe had many occupations. He worked for Brunswick Laundry, Jersey City, bartended, and worked for Lehman Brothers, New York City, as an operations manager for 25 years. But most of all he loved his years working for the Department of Recreation, Jersey City, where he umpired games and worked with the youth of the city.
He was a member of St. Martha's Church, Point Pleasant.
He was an air raid warden during World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa Genova Vicari, in 2003; his parents, Nicholas and Margaret Vicari; his sister, Dorothy Camilli; and his grandson, Paul Furmato, who was killed in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Joe Furmato, Point Pleasant; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Georgianna Vicari, North Arlington; a brother, James Vicari, Brick; six grandchildren, Joseph, Carol, Jill, Mark, Joe and Georgianna; 15 great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Calligan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.
Ronald D. Ramsey Sr.
Brick Township resident Ronald D. Ramsey Sr., formerly of Point Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 25, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 65 years old.
Born in Long Branch, Mr. Ramsey lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Brick in 1970.
He was employed as an electrician with Electrical Union Local No. 400, Wall Township, for 30 years, retiring in 1991. Also, he was an official crew member for NASCAR. During the 1960s, he was employed as a police officer in Mantoloking.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was the supreme auditor of the Foresters of America U.S.A., and a member of Forester Lodge No. 127, Lakewood, the Lacy Moose; the VFW in Brick; the American Legion, Lakewood; the local Elks lodge; the Dirty Dozen Gun Club, and the Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey, in 2002.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald D. and Suzanne Ramsey Jr., Whiting, and Michael and Robbin Ramsey, Brick; two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda Lo Bue and John Maloney, Philadelphia, and Sunny Simms, Tuckerton; a brother and sister-in-law, Craig D. and Anne Marie Ramsey, Spring Lake Heights; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick. Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home. Burial
will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lakewood.
William C. Finnegan
Spring Lake and Marco Island, Fla., resident William Charles Finnegan, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 15 after a brief illness.
He was 63 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Bill raised his family in Maplewood before moving to Spring Lake.
He was employed as a securities trader for over 40 years, working at First Boston, Solomon Brothers, Smith Barney, Ryan Beck & Company, Dillion Reed, Strike Technologies, and Putnam Lovell.
He was an active member of the Security Traders Association of New York [STANY], and served for five years as his sons’ scoutmaster of Troop No. 2, Maplewood.
Bill was an avid fisherman and golfer who enjoyed laughing and taking trips with his family and fishing friends.
Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Irene Finnegan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew D. and Courtney, Tiburon, Calif., Brian C. and Karin, Point Pleasant, and Curtis L. and Alison, Cherry Hill; his mother, Eleanor Finnegan, Indianapolis; one brother, Bob, Indianapolis; one sister, Ann Finnegan, Toms River; six grandchildren, Jack, Dylan, and Sydney, of Tiburon, Calif., James and Casey, of Point Pleasant, and Grace, of Cherry Hill, and many loving nieces and nephews.

George E. Yack
Point Pleasant resident George E. Yack died Friday, Nov. 17 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 91 years old.
Born in Joliet, Ill., Mr. Yack resided in both Hillsdale and Teaneck before moving to Point Pleasant in 1974.
He was a graduate of DePaul University and Chicago Normal College.
He was employed for 33 years as a passenger service representative with the New York Central Railroad System.
He was a devout, traditional Roman Catholic.
He was a longtime volunteer with the former Point Pleasant Hospital.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Yack enlisted in the Illinois National Guard Horse Calvary, and later served in the 101st Calvary, as well as the Army Signal Corps, being stationed in New Guinea.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Yack.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Faith Yack, Richmond, Va., and Roy Yack and Kathleen Brindle, Bayville; one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Richard Benton, Ontario, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Mary, Faith, Joseph Jr., Jason, Kathryn and James; and eight great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Blake, Elizabeth, Trey, Alexander, Gavin, Kaia and Olivia.
Funeral arrangements are from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens.

Joyce Scales Johnson
Fair Haven resident Joyce Adele Scales Johnson, a longtime summer resident of Lavallette, died Wednesday, Nov. 15 in Riverview Medical Center after a heroic battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer.
She was 71 years old.
Born and raised in Maplewood, Mrs. Johnson lived in Morristown before moving to Fair Haven 45 years ago. She was a summer resident of Lavallette.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Centenary College, Hackettstown.
She was employed as a secretary early in her career with Bell Telephone Laboratories Later on she assisted her husband in a small company he operated.
The family summered in Lavallette, where she loved to swim in the ocean and engage in water associated activities. She was an active member of the Lavallette Yacht Club where she served on the Race Committee for many years. She also volunteered her services in the library, at her church and on the election board.
She was deceased by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Scales, and her sister, Carol E. Smeaton.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Anthony “Andy” T. Johnson; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary T. and Nancy Johnson; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn C. and Mark Timmons; and two grandchildren Sean and Emma.
Funeral arrangements were from the Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 in The First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank-Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank.

Muriel K. Irving
Point Pleasant Beach resident Muriel K. McLaughlin Irving died Friday, Nov. 17 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
She was 98 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Irving was raised in Roselle Park and lived in Fanwood and Scotch Plains, before moving to Point Pleasant Beach more than 45 years ago.
She was employed as an executive assistant to the president of the White Weid Company, New York City, many years ago.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
She was predeceased in 1998 by her beloved husband, John Stiles Irving.
Surviving are one son, John Styles Irving Jr., Bethesda, Md.; one daughter, Muriel Irving Rogers, Colts Neck; six grandchildren, Maureen Hourigan, Kenneth Rogers, John Rogers, Dr. Brian Rogers, John Irving IV and Dianne Kontos; and 11 grandchildren, Phoebe, Breanne and Chloe Hourigan, John, Kenny, Jessica, Luke and Olivia Rogers, and Katherine, Stephanie and Mackenzie Irving.

was in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
Richard A. Mast
Point Pleasant Beach resident Richard Albert Mast, died Saturday, Nov. 18, in his home.
He was 82 years old.
Born in Irvington, Mr. Mast lived in Point Pleasant since 1984.
He was a graduate of Seton Hall University.
He was the president of Faitoute Iron and Steel Co., Newark, for 35 years retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Reformed Church of America, Tinton Falls.
Mr. Mast was a past commander and life member of American Legion Post No. 16, Irvington; past president of the Steel Service Center Institute; a gold member of SCORE; a member of the Tail Hook Association; Manasquan River Golf Club and Suburban Golf Club; and Seton Hall University Alumni Association; and a Literary Volunteer of America.
He served his country honorably as a pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retiring as a lieutenant commander from the U.S. Navy Reserve after 40 years of service in 1984.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Andrea De Sarno, in May 2000.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Sarah Adelaide Mast; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Susan Mast, West Long Branch, and Keith and Joan Mast, Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Denis Germano, Medford Lakes; his grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Mast, Katie Glass and her husband Braxton, and their mother, Cathy Mast, Katherine and Joseph Martin, Christine and Michael Haney, Rachel and Christopher Ulrikson, Patricia and Michael Pecoraro, Matthew Germano and his fiancee Marie Reen, and Patrick Germano; his great-grandchildren, Isabella Renee Pecoraro, William Michael Martin, Sophia Marie Pecoraro, Dana Louise Ulrikson, Jolie Katherine Martin and Connor James Haney.
