William C. Wohnus Sr.
Ocean Gate resident William C. Wohnus Sr., whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, May 31 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
He was 62 years old.
Born in Bayonne, Mr. Wohnus lived there most of his life before moving to Ocean Gate in 1975.
He was a graduate of Bayonne High School.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Smith Wohnus; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William C. Jr. and Krystal, Venice, Fla., and Michael, Bayville, Berkeley; two daughters and one son-in-law, Michele and Robert Symnaski, Point Pleasant, and Donna Wohnus, Ocean Gate; his mother, Theresa M. Dorst Wohnus, Whiting, Manchester; and three grandchildren, Nicole, Collin and Makana.
Funeral arrangements were from the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, Toms River.
Peter I. Rowe
Brick Township resident Peter I. Rowe, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, May 31 in Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
He was 84 years old.
Born in Plainfield, Mr. Rowe lived there before moving to the Mantoloking Shores section of Brick in 1968.
He was a lieutenant with the Plainfield Fire Department for 28 years, retiring in 1977. After his retirement, he worked as a licensed plumber as a subcontractor for Sears for many years.
He was an Army Air Corps World War II veteran and attained the rank of staff Sergeant.
He was predeceased by his sister, Madeline Smalley.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Audrey” Pearson Rowe; one daughter, Barbara Reinhardt, Point Pleasant; and one granddaughter, Keri Anderson, Mantoloking Shores, Brick.
Funeral arrangements were from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick.

Robert O’Connor
Point Pleasant resident Robert J. O’Connor died Saturday, June 3, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 102 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. O’Connor lived in Spring Lake and Belmar before moving to Point Pleasant seven years ago.
He retired from Local No. 584, New York City, in 1969. When he started working as a young man, he was employed with a laundry service in Newark where he made deliveries with a horse and carriage; he later became a taxi cab driver, before being employed with Sealtest in Newark.
He was a dedicated member of his union, and was active in the Sea Girt Bowling Lanes.
He was predeceased in 1968 by his wife, Anna, and in 1991 by his good friend, Dorothy Mongeotti.
Surviving are four nieces, Mary Haber, Toms River, Betty Nunn, Beachwood, Jane Byrne, Pine Beach, and Claire Byrne, Toms River; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friends with whom he lived, Noreen and Jim Beirne and their daughters, Rebecca and Jessica, Point Pleasant.

John F. Brennan Jr.
Lavallette resident John F. Brennan Jr. died Sunday, June 4 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 76 years old.
Born and raised in Elizabeth, Mr. Brennan moved to Lavallette 30 years ago.
He was the vice president for The Community Development Division at First Union Bank, Trenton, for 40 years, before retiring in 1993.
He was a parishioner of St. Bonaventure Church, Lavallette, where he served as an usher.
He was a life member of the Ocean Beach Fire Police. He was secretary for the Toms River Fireman’s Relief Association and served on the Board of Directors for Central Jersey Better Business Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Confessore Brennan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Diane, Toms River, and Gary and Susan, New Hope, Pa.; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Bruce Lewandowski, Feasterville; and eight grandchildren.

Joe Martin
Witt, Ill., resident Joe Martin, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Wednesday, May 3 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, Ill.
He was 76 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant Beach, Mr. Martin was a longtime resident of Witt, Ill..
He was the owner/operator, along with his wife, of Joe & JoAnne’s Tavern, Witt, Ill., for 22 years. He was also a coal miner for 23 years, before retiring.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 4547, and the United Mine Workers.
He was a Navy veteran, serving for 10 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Nellie Snell Martin.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, JoAnne Bolding Martin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Andy Hubbard, Ottawa, Ill., and Jodi and Brian Whitlow, Pawnee, Ill.; two brothers, Frank Martin and George Martin, both of Point Pleasant Beach; four sisters, Florence White, Mae DeSetefano and Murial Berardesco, all of Point Pleasant Beach, and Pauline Purwin, Santa Monica, Calif., and four grandchildren, Jina Jo and Bailee Hubbard, and Jaclynn and Alyssa Whitlow.

Dolina “Dolly” Perno
Lavallette resident Dolina “Dolly” Perno, died Saturday, April 22 in her home surrounded by her family.
She was 89 years old.
Mrs. Perno lived in Midland Park before moving to Lavallette in 1972.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing.
She was employed as a nursing supervisor with Van Dyke’s Nursing Home, Ridgewood, retiring in 1970.
She was a parishioner of St. Bonaventure Church, Lavallette, and belonged to the Rosary Society.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Alumni Association, the Seaside Chapter of Deborah, Lavallette Seniors and the Ocean County Nutritional Center.
She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Perno; her stepdaughter, Carmella Mattei; her mother and father, Elisabeth and Hobart Serafini, who was the first chief of police of Ho-Ho-Kus; and three brothers.
Surviving are one son, Frank Perno, Duluth, Ga.; one daughter, Elizabeth Curry, Lavallette; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her lifelong friend, Mary Fiorilla, Hawthorne.
Funeral arrangements were from the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River. A memorial service was held in St. Bonaventure Church, Lavallette.

Ann Mary Dillon Fitzgerald
Point Pleasant resident Ann Mary Wilbert Dillon Fitzgerald died Friday, April 28.
She was 85 years old.
Born in Bay Head, Ann was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Conley and Theodore Wilbert, and was a lifelong resident of the Shore area.
She was a 1939 graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School.
Ann was a homemaker, and was employed with the Signal Corps, Camp Evans, during World War II.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William Edward Dillon, her grandson, John H. Kolmer III, and her sister, Theodora O’Connor.
Surviving are her husband, Walter Fitzgerald; her children and their spouses, Charles Dillon and his wife Barbara, Nora Dillon Kolmer and her husband John, Mary Dillon Polizzotto and her husband Robert, Eileen Dillon Dwyer and her husband Timothy, Casey Dillon Kennedy, William Edward Dillon Jr. and his wife Jill, and Patrick Dillon and his wife Leslie, all of the Shore area; one brother, Michael Wilbert, Wall Township; three sisters, Virginia Matthews, Naples, Fla., and Elsie Kelly and Maura Simon, both of Bay Head; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.
