George Mayer Jr.
Brick Township resident George Mayer Jr., whose brother lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, April 15 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 83 years old.
Born in Morristown, Mr. Mayer lived in Elizabeth before moving to Brick in 1961.
He was an electrician for 50 years with IBEW Local No. 675, Elizabeth. Previously, he operated Mayer Electric Service, Elizabeth, with his father.
He was a 45-year member of Shore Acres Club, and a member of Forge Pond Golf Club, and enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening.
He was an Army veteran serving during World War II.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Mayer.
Surviving are his wife of almost 60 years, Eleanor Baccaro Mayer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent and Mary Lou Mayer, Middletown, and Dr. Frederick and Susan Mayer, Avon-By-The-Sea; one daughter and son-in-law, Peg and Frank Richetti Jr., Brick; two brothers, Raymond, Point Pleasant, and Robert, of Ocean County; one sister, Helen Sikorsky, Brick; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Donna, Jason, Peter, Laura, and Mary; and one great-granddaughter, Madison.
Funeral arrangements were from the Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, Brick.
Contributions in Mr. Mayer’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Meridian Hospice.
Theodore M. Brembos
Toms River resident Theodore M. Brembos, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, April 13 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
He was 68 years old.
Born in Seattle, Wash., Mr. Brembos lived in Hazlet most of his life before moving to Toms River in 2004.
He worked for more than 50 years, and was last employed as a store manager with Stop N Shop, Highland Park, retiring in February.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sp4 E4(T).
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Eleanor Troch Brembos; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Theodore J. Brembos, Point Pleasant, and Timothy and Kelly Brembos, Brick Township; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Stephen Specchio, Union Beach; one brother, Thomas Brembos, Lanoka Harbor, Lacey; three sisters, Judith Jobes, Peggy Newby, and Barbara McCurry, all of Wall Township; and four grandchildren, Alissa Brembos, Michael Brembos, Jessica Specchio and Stephen Specchio.
Funeral arrangements were from the D’Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood.
Frances A. Borga
Toms River resident Frances A. Borga, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 11, her birthday, in her home, from complications of colon cancer after courageously enduring years of treatment.
She was 82 years old.
Born in Richwood, Mrs. Borga was raised in Mullica Hill before moving to Toms River in 1942.
She attended Aura Grammar School and Glassboro High School.
She was a member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church, where she helped with the church suppers for many years.
She was a member of the A.J. Weeks Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and cherished friend. She and Mickey were regular members of the Route 37 Burger King Breakfast Group. She enjoyed traveling with all generations of her family, especially to Disney World.
She will be remembered for her warm and loving heart, as well as her kind and generous spirit. Frances was always there when someone needed her - friends or family. She devoted her life to her family, taking an avid interest in their activities. She was their biggest fan and offered them moral support. Her friends will remember her bright smile, sympathetic ear and good advice.
She was predeceased in 2005 by her husband of 63 years, Michael J. Borga Sr.; and by her parents, Mary and Charles Franklin Orens.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Borga, Point Pleasant; three daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Cliver, Mount Holly, and Maria Borga and her husband, Tim Walczak, and Karen Borga, all of Toms River; two brothers and one sister-in-law, David and Sarah Orens, Tacoma, Wash., and Charles Orens, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen Morris, Lake Worth, Fla., and Shirley and Art Bonislawski, Windsor, N.C.; her grandchildren, Maria and her husband, Leonard Willitts, Michele and her husband Joe Egley, and Michael Egley, all of Mount Holly, Alexandra and Rebecca Walczak, Toms River, and Michael Borga III, and Chris and Cameron Moniz, all of Point Pleasant; three great-grandchildren, Melissa Egley, and Stephanie and Danielle Willitts, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James A. Murphy
Point Pleasant resident James A. Murphy died Tuesday, April 18 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township, after a brief illness.
He was 86 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mr. Murphy lived there and in Montville before moving to Point Pleasant 23 years ago.
He was a self-employed carpenter for 20 years, before retiring in 1985. Previously, he was a professional fireman for 15 years with the Jersey City Fire Department, retiring in 1965.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
He was a member of the Royal Order of the Moose and the American Legion, both of Point Pleasant.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Ordroneaux in the European Theatre.
Surviving are his wife, Tessie Wisnewski Murphy; one son and daughter-in-law, James P. and Joanne Murphy, Basking Ridge; two daughters, Elaine Andrews and Margaret Gilles, both of Jersey City; three sisters, Helen Colligan, Carteret, Elizabeth Naughton, Toms River, and Dorothy Salabbi, Jupiter, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are from the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, Basking Ridge. A Liturgy of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of the Mount Church, Warren.
Jane M. Beckett
Middletown resident Jane M. Beckett, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, April 15 in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.
She was 69 years old.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Beckett lived in England, New York and Hazlet, before moving to Middletown 28 years ago.
She was employed with GMAC, and Lever Brothers, both of New York City, and later was employed as a legal secretary with Jarvis Law Firm, New York City, and with Gordano, Halleran and Ciesla, Middletown. She was then self-employed as the editor of CBA Today.
She was an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown.
She was a member of the Board of Trustees, Shadow Lake Village, Middletown.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Lydia Vrba Kowal.
Surviving are her husband, Peter Beckett; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nadine and Patrick McCaffrey, Point Pleasant, and Tess Ames, Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Patrick and Brianna McCaffrey, and Sidney Ames.
Funeral arrangements are from the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Tindall Road, Middletown.
Roy Walter Hoy
Point Pleasant resident Roy Walter Hoy died Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 73 years old.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Hoy was raised in New York City and lived in Passaic and Wallington before moving to Point Pleasant 46 years ago.
He became a New Jersey State Police officer in 1954, was assigned to Troop C and served in many stations in Central New Jersey. In 1969 he became a a charter member of the Helicopter Patrol Bureau, eventually being promoted to lieutenant in 1976. He was then appointed bureau chief and in 1978 was instrumental with the New Jersey State Police Medevac program becoming operational. In 1980 he was transferred to the Field Operation Section, Division Hg., and served as the administrative officer. In 1981 he was appointed Deputy Troop commander of Troop A, Hammonton. He became the assistant bureau supervisor of the State Government Security Bureau at the State House and in 1983 was promoted to captain in charge of the bureau. In 1985 he became troop commander, of Troop C, Princeton, before retiring from the State Police in 1986.
Mr. Roy was then employed as the director of public safety in North Bergen, with the investigations office of the Department of Transportation, and as a consultant with the Pennsylvania State Police.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Bay Head.
He was a member of the Police Administrative Association, the National Legislative Services and Security Association, the Airborne Law Enforcement Association, and the Former Troopers of New Jersey Association.
He was an Army veteran, serving as a tank driver with the 1st Infantry Division in Germany.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Rosemarie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Shawn, Point Pleasant, and Clifford and Patricia, Brick Township; two sisters, Dorothy Guadagno, Sarasota, Fla., and Barbara Kuzmick, Upper Montclair; three grandchildren, Cameron, Brandon and Brianna; and a nephew and his wife, Luis and Sandra Reyes, Upper Montclair.
Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Robert A. Balzano
Point Pleasant resident Robert A. Balzano died Sunday, Dec. 12 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 38 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. Balzano lived in Old Bridge before moving to Point Pleasant five years ago.
He was employed for 13 years as a shop steward with Roadway Union Local No. 701, East Brunswick.
He was a member of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.
Mr. Balzano was the Point Pleasant Little League director of girls softball, and served as a Point Pleasant Little League coach for boys baseball.
He was a Navy veteran.
He was a wonderful husband, father, son and brother, and will be in his family’s hearts forever.
He was predeceased by his uncle, Andrew N. Fresco.
Surviving are his wife, Yvette Napurano Balzano; one son, Robert A. Jr., and two daughters, Patricia May and Gina Marie, all at home; his parents, Frank and Mary Balzano, Brick; his grandmother, Frances Fresco, Edison; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank J. and Mary, Old Bridge; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Angela Culver, Sea Girt, and Frances Mary and Joe Florentine, Spring Lake; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Angie Napurano, Sayreville; his aunts and uncles, Dolores Fresco, Edison, Saverio and Betty Ann Fresco, Manchester, Jack and Marie Balzano, of New York, and Don Fresco, Edison; and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick. A funeral liturgy will be offered at 11 a.m. today in St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.
