Richard E. Loughran
Point Pleasant resident Richard E. Loughran died Tuesday, Aug. 30 in his home.
He was 58 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, Mr. Loughran was raised in Point Pleasant Beach and lived in Point Pleasant for the past 30 years.
He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, Ocean County College, and Monmouth College.
He was employed in sales with General Foods, Clifton, then with First Investors Corp., Wall Township, and most recently with Stop & Shop, Point Pleasant.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach, where he served as an usher.
He was a member of Point Pleasant Fire Company No. 2, and a former member of Ocean Fire Company No. 1, Point Pleasant Beach.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a sergeant.
He was predeceased by his parents Thomas F. X. and Florence Pray Loughran.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Lois A. Holbrook Loughran; one daughter, Rachel Lyn Loughran, Point Pleasant; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Thomas F. X. Jr. and Patricia, and Robert E. and Jo Ann, all of Brick Township; and John B., and Michael and Pattie, all of Point Pleasant Beach; two sisters, Sara E. Van Wickle, Brielle, and Mary Jane Fendl, Point Pleasant; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral arrangements are from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

Elizabeth A. Durbin
Berkeley resident Elizabeth A. McMahon Durbin, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Sunday, Aug. 28 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
She was 73 years old.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Durbin lived in the Curtis Point section of Mantoloking before moving to Holiday City, Berkeley, 20 years ago.
She was a homemaker, and enjoyed reading and knitting.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Bradley.
Surviving are her husband Frank T. Durbin; son, Kevin Bradley, Boca Raton, Fla.; daughters, Colleen Redman, Point Pleasant Beach, Kerry Newall, Brielle, and Kara Ertle, Jupiter, Fla.; brother William McMahon, of Florida; and grandchildren Kate, Maggie, Anne, Matthew, Sarah, Cody, Grace, Ryan, Connor and Hunter.

Richard B. Holt
Point Pleasant resident Richard B. “Dick” Holt died Monday, Aug. 29 in Meridian Hospice, Brick Township.
He was 80 years old.
Born in Orange, Dick lived in East Orange before moving to Point Pleasant 45 years ago.
Dick left school at age 17 to serve his country as a submariner in the Pacific during World War II. He completed his education upon returning home.
He was employed for 26 years as a planner and estimator with Naval Weapons Station, Earle, retiring in 1990.
He was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.
He was a member of the Point Pleasant Borough Volunteer Fire Department No. 1.
Throughout his young life, Mr. Holt worked at many trades to be an excellent provider to his family. His legacy to his children and grandchildren is his work ethic, morals, values, religion, the importance of education and his love for reading.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the love of his life, Alice Curry Holt; son Richard G., Lanoka Harbor; daughter and son-in-law Janice and Jim Rutigliano, Lanoka Harbor; a sister-in-law, Janet Curry, Clark; and grandchildren Kathryn Rutigliano and James Rutigliano.
Funeral arrangements are from the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, Toms River. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a 11 a.m. funeral Liturgy in St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.

John Joseph Castle
Point Pleasant resident John Joseph Castle died Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 90 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. Castle lived in Wall Township before moving to Point Pleasant 14 years ago.
He was employed for 30 years as a health inspector with the City of Newark, retiring 30 years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.
He was a member of the VFW and of the Point Pleasant Elks No. 8160.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. During his enlistment, he drove the hearse in the funeral procession for Gen. George S. Patton.
He was predeceased in 1992 by his wife, Mary T. Castle.
Surviving are one son, George J. Castle, Stuart, Fla.; two daughters, Susan Hudson, Manahawkin, Stafford, and Kathleen Colabella, Brick Township; a sister, Martha Petras, Brick; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Private funeral arrangements were from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick.
Florence D. Faber
Point Pleasant resident Florence Demarest Faber died Friday, Sept. 9.
She was 93 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Faber was a lifelong resident, moving to Point Pleasant a year ago.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry.
Surviving are her cousins, Charles Gorrie, Point Pleasant Beach, and Patricia Vail, Point Pleasant; and other family members, Susan and John Vail, and Alexis and Nicholas Vail-Stein.

Geraldine R. Johnston
Point Pleasant resident Geraldine R. Keating Johnston died Friday, Sept. 9 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 79 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Johnstone lived in Union City before moving to Point Pleasant in 1986.
She was employed for many years as an office manager with Grant City & Schiffenhaus Corp., Newark.
She was predeceased in 1973 by her husband, Howard, by her parents, Frank and Rose Keating, and her brother, Gerard Keating.
Surviving are her cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

John Joseph Meehan
Point Pleasant Beach resident John Joseph Meehan died Friday, Sept. 9 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 71 years old.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Meehan lived there before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1975.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y., in 1956.
He was employed for 20 years as an electrical engineer, retiring in 1975.
Surviving are his wife, Bridget Durkin Meehan; one daughter, Laura E. Anan, Point Pleasant; a brother, Charles, Point Pleasant Beach; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Charles Mylod, Oradell; one granddaughter, Jade Michelle O’Connor; and three nephews, Charlie, Eddie and John.

Arlene Tellone LaGasse
Toms River resident Arlene Tellone LaGasse, formerly of Mantoloking, died Sunday, Sept. 11in Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
She was 77 years old.
Born in Bristol, Conn., Mrs. LaGasse lived in Newark, in South Plainfield for 20 years, in Cranford for 14 years, and in Mantoloking for 20 years, before moving to Toms River five years ago.
She was employed for 27 years as a surgical nurse with Raritan Valley Hospital, Bound Brook.
She was a singer and entertained at the USO during the Korean War.
Surviving are her husband, Richard LaGasse; two sons, Joseph Tellone, Chicago, and Edward “Rusty” Tellone, Manasquan; two daughters, Susan McCoy, Manasquan, and Diane Walker, Pawturdet, Conn.; three step-daughters, Linda Beresford, Cranford, Michelle LaGasse, Manasquan, and Susanne DePuy, Highland Ranch, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.
