Dorothy LiVolsi

Lakewood resident Dorothy Domenica LoPiccolo LiVolsi, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Aug. 17 in her home.

She was 73 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. LiVolsi lived in Lyndhurst before moving to Lakewood two years ago.

She was employed as a manager with Commonwealth Land and Title Co., Ridgewood.

She was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leopoldo.

Surviving are two sons, Richard LiVolsi, Point Pleasant, and Charles LiVolsi, Piscataway; one daughter, Barbara Trivino, Lyndhurst; one sister, Roslyn DiBello, of Florida; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick Township.

Frank A. Puciul

Point Pleasant resident Frank A. Puciul died Sunday, Aug. 21 in Shorrock Garden Care Center, Brick Township.

He was 85 years old.

Born in Bayonne, Frank lived in Jersey City before moving to Point Pleasant in 1964.

He was employed for 20 years as an inspector with Brockway Glass Co., Freehold Township, retiring in 1985. Previously, he was employed for some time with the Erie Railroad.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Frank served on a destroyer and saw action in both the Pacific and Atlantic.

He was predeceased in 1995 by his wife, Viola; and by his brother, Edward.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Frank J. and Cheryl, Point Pleasant; two grandchildren, Michael and Rachele Puciul; brothers and sisters-in-law, Felix, Rose, Vincent, William Venutolo, Lois and Ed Bahrer, the Honorable Robert and Elaine Fall, and Theresa and John Natar; his godchildren, Lois Ann Steup and Rachele M. Fall; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick.

John A. Bradley

Point Pleasant resident John A. Bradley died Tuesday, Aug. 23 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

He was 83 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, John was a lifelong resident.

He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School.

He was a self-employed builder, retiring 20 years ago.

He was a member of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.

He was a member of the Point Pleasant Elks, Point Pleasant Fire Department No. 1, the Point Pleasant VFW, and the American Legion in Point Pleasant.

John was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Ramsden and CGC Modoc with convoy duty in the North Atlantic.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward “Butch” and William; and his sister, Ruth Gifford.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Margaret Volz Bradley; three sons and daughters-in-law, John K. and Joyce, and Mark and Marcie, all of Point Pleasant, and Robert and Joanne, Manasquan; his sister, Mildred Kleinertz; 11 grandchildren, Colin, Curry, Caitlin, Audrey, Austin, Skylar, Stephen, Matthew, Erin, Megan and Tyler Bradley; and four great-grandchildren, Nash, Bryanna, Gavin, and Colin Bradley.

Funeral arrangements are from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. Cremation will be private. Entombment of cremated remains will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 31 in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

Sandra Lee Guide

Neptune City resident Sandra Lee Bardenhagen Guide, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Aug. 19 in her home.

She was 61 years old.

Mrs. Guide lived in Point Pleasant and Brick Township before moving to Neptune City two years ago.

She was employed for 15 years as a caterer with Gourmet Kitchens, Bradley Beach.

She was a beloved wife, loving daughter, and caring mother.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph C. Guide, and her parents, Henry and Juleen Bardenhagen.

Surviving are one son, Bryan Guide, Neptune City; one daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Roger Trenkle, Belmar; one brother and sister-in-law, one sister, Ruth Ann Ball, Hawthorne; and her father and mother-in-law, Joseph N. and Anna Guide, Point Pleasant.

Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Walter K. Miller Sr.

Berkeley resident Walter K. Miller Sr., formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Aug. 19 in Leisure Chateau, Lakewood.

He was 68 years old.

Born in Passaic, Mr. Miller resided in Clifton as a youth and lived in Point Pleasant before moving to the Bayville section of Berkeley six years ago.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University.

Mr. Miller was employed for 25 years as an eighth grade English teacher with the Memorial School, Point Pleasant, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the New Jersey Retired Teacher’s Association.

He was an Army veteran, serving in the early 1960s.

He was predeceased by a brother, Russell P. Miller.

Surviving are one son, Walter K. Jr., New Wilmington, Pa.; an aunt, Rose Kogit, Clifton; an uncle, George Kogit, Manasquan; and his former wife, Lorraine Kaleda, Toms River.

Funeral arrangements were from Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton.

Margaret Irons Smetts

Brick Township resident Margaret Irons Smetts, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Wednesday, Aug. 17 in her home.

She was 78 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant Beach, Mrs. Smetts was a lifelong area resident.

She was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Church, Brick.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Smetts.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Jane, Brick; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothyann and Bill Nave, Galloway, and Marjorieann and Richard Hawkins, Lecanto, Fla.; her sister, Dorothyann Callahan, of Massachusetts; and five grandchildren, William and his wife, Jennifer, Danielle, Monica, David and Sarah.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Lester E. Hoffmaster

Towamencin Township, Pa., resident Lester E. Hoffmaster, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Aug. 18 in Dock Terrace, Towamencin Township.

He was 91 years old.

Born in Lancaster, Pa., Mr. Hoffmaster lived in Lebanon County, and in Norristown for over 30 years before moving to the Dock Woods community in 1992.

He was a 1932 graduate of Manor Township High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1937 and a master’s degree in education from Temple University.

He was employed as a teacher and coach for 37 years. He taught at high schools in Warwick Township, Heidelberg Township, Cocalico Union, and Norristown, and retired from the Upper Dublin School District in 1979.

He was a member of the Ambler Church of the Brethren and a former member of the Ephrata and Midway Church of the Brethren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Fay Hoffmaster; his parents, Aaron O. and Fannie L. Herr Hoffmaster; his brother, Richard; two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Emma Snyder; and his granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Muraglia.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Verna M. Hoffmaster; two sons and daughters-in-law, David B. and Mary, Phoenixville, Pa., and James L. and Karen, Point Pleasant; four daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and David Place, Fairview Village, Pa., Linda S. and Mervyl Miller, Harrisonburg,Va., Nancy J. and William Hamill Jr., Warrington, Pa., and Janet K. and Joseph Ikoniak, Doylestown, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, Pa. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 in the Deck Woods Community Chapel, 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, Pa. 19446.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Hoffmaster’s memory may be made to Dock Woods Sharing Fund [address above] or to Ambler Church of the Brethren, 351 East Butler Ave., Ambler, PA 19002-4320.
