Harold F. Wardell
Point Pleasant resident Harold F. Wardell died Saturday, July 23 in his home.
He was 87 years old.
Born in Herbertsville, Mr. Wardell lived in Point Pleasant for 67 years.
For 50 years, He was employed as a passenger conductor by the Pennsylvania Railroad System, and later for Amtrak.
Mr. Wardell was a member of the Durand Lodge No. 179, F.&A.M., for 60 years and was a 30-year member of the loyal order of Moose, Point Pleasant Lodge. He belonged to the Monarch Racing Pigeon Club, Allenwood; was a member of the Central Jersey Chapter of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; and was a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
A beloved husband and loving father, Mr. Wardell was predeceased by his wife of over 68 years, Dorothea, in 2004.
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothea Bull and her husband, the late Thomas Bull; sons John and his wife Mildred, Gary and his wife Karen, and Harold Wardell; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were provided by the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.

George Willimann
Lakewood resident George Willimann, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, July 20 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 82 years old.
Born in Paterson, Mr. Willimann lived in Haledon for 20 years before moving to Point Pleasant. He then lived in Troy, Pa. for eight years before returning to New Jersey and residing in Leisure Village East, Brick, since 1994.
Mr. Willimann was employed as a carpenter/supervisor with the maintenance department of the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company [A&P], Paterson and Montvale for 39 years.
He served with the Haledon Fire Co., No. 2; was a member of the NJ Exempt Fireman Association; and was a member of the Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant.
Mr. Willimann was a United States Army World War II veteran.
A beloved husband, father and friend, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Thelma [nee Burke]; Charles S. and his wife Marlene, Katy, Texas; daughter, Judy Wolfe and her husband William, Gilbertsville, N.Y.; sister Vera Nugent, Haledon; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are by the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.

Barbara Ann Rizzo
Point Pleasant Beach resident Barbara Ann Rizzo died Thursday, July 21 in her home.
She was 62 years old.
Born in West Orange, Mrs. Rizzo married
and moved into her shore home in Point Pleasant Beach, in 1971.
She was employed for 17 years at Capri Institute of Brick as a financial aid officer and retired in April 2005, due to her illness.
A scholarship fund will be made in her honor. Mrs. Rizzo was well-known for her love of animals, sewing, painting and crafts, but most of all, as a devoted wife, mother, nanny and friend. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
She was predeceased by her mother Susan Panuska, and her father Edward Panuska Sr.
Mrs. Rizzo is survived by her husband Frank Rizzo, Point Pleasant Beach; daughter Lois Van Riper and her husband, Mark, Point Pleasant; son Francis J. Rizzo Jr. and his wife Karen, Point Pleasant; daughter Diane Rizzo-Grimstad and her husband Glenn, Toms River; brothers Edward Panuska Jr., Brick, and Ronald Panuska and sister-in-law Joan, Brick; sister-in-law Lois Babbage, East Hanover; and three beautiful granddaughters, Marissa Van Riper, Olivia Rizzo and Gianna Grimstad.
Funeral arrangements were from Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Don F. Burke
Brick Township resident Don F. Burke, formerly of Point Pleasant, died suddenly on Friday, July 22.
He was 78 years old.
Born in Paterson, Mr. Burke lived there before moving to Point Pleasant in 1954, where he lived for over 25 years. He has resided in Brick since 1980.
A World War II, United States Navy veteran, he served aboard the U.S.S. Dortch.
During the 1950s, Mr. Burke worked as an inspector for the NJ Division of Motor Vehicles, Department of Law and Public Safety. Later he constructed, owned and operated Shore Haven Marina in Point Pleasant.
Mr. Burke also worked in sales for the original Leisure Village retirement community as well as owning and operating the Ruddy Duck Antique Shop in Point Pleasant. He constructed, owned, and operated Kangaroo Courts, Brick, which was the first racquetball club in New Jersey.
Mr. Burke served on, and was past president of the Point Pleasant Board of Education, and was also a past member of both the borough council and planning board. A charter member of the Point Pleasant Borough First Aid Squad, he was also a past member of the Point Pleasant Borough Fire Company, No. 1.
Mr. Burke was a member and past president of Rotary International, Point Pleasant Borough Club, he was past president of the Ocean County Vocational & Technical School Board; was a member of the Tin-Can Sailor’s Association; a member of both the Brick Township and Point Pleasant historical societies, and was a parishioner and served upon the vestry of St. Mary’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, Point Pleasant.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Trudy, who passed away April 15, 1997 after a long battle with emphysema, and his sister Gladys Findlay.
A loving father, Mr. Burke is survived by daughters Nancy Burke, Howell, and Tracey Lehman and her husband Bill, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons Donald Jr. and his wife Cindy, Brielle, and Michael and his wife Candice, Colts Neck; sisters Doris Schmidt and Thelma Willimann, both of Lakewood; and grandchildren Donald F. Burke III, Timothy and Shaun Burke and Stephanie Lehman; he is also survived by his companion, Doris Hatch and many loving friends, especially Eileen Steel and Rob Cole.
A Memorial Burial
Office and Requiem will be celebrated Friday, July 29 at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, Bay and Atlantic avenues, Point Pleasant Beach. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment
will follow at the church memorial garden.
Funeral arrangements were provided by the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.

Clotilde Zacarias Martins
Newark resident Clotilde Zacarias Martins, formerly of Lavallette, died Friday, July 22 in St. James Hospital, Newark.
She was 84 years old.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., Mrs. Martins lived there until an early age and moved to the Ironbound section of Newark. She moved to Lavallette in 1980, moving back to Newark in June.
She was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Newark, where she was also a member of the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Lavallette.
Mrs. Martins was predeceased by her husband Antonio A.; and son Antonio Jr.
She is survived by her children, Edward and Joe Martins, Gloria Matos, and Michael Martins; sister Mrs. Gloria Estelle; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were provided by the Buyus Funeral Home, Newark.

R. Kimball Hartshorne
Bay Point Harbour resident R. Kimball Hartshorne, who attended church in Bay Head and was a member of the yacht club, died Tuesday, July 26 in Ocean Medical Center.
He was 85 years old.
A talented musician and composer, Mr. Hartshorne began playing the piano at age 6 and by his mid-teens had written music and lyrics for several musical productions in his home town of Rumson, and at St. Paul’s school in Concord, New Hampshire.
During World War II while he was serving in the U.S. Army, a song of his was featured in a London revue. Mr. Hartshorne was decorated with the bronze star during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.
After the war, he became a professional pianist and entertainer as well as an arranger whose work was featured by the Princeton University Triangle Show. In the 1950s, Mr. Hartshorne left music for the world of business. He retired as Vice President of the Livingston National Bank in Livingston in 1980.
Mr. Hartshorne was a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club and a member of the All Saints Church in Bay Head.
He was predeceased by his son William, in 1988.
Mr. Hartshorne is survived by his wife Tina, son Christopher of Washington, N.J., and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Church in Bay Head. The date of the service is to be confirmed.

Jeannette Trippett Hopkins
Brick Township resident Jeannette Trippett Hopkins, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, July 22 in Burnt Tavern Manor, Brick.
She was 88 years old.
Born in Montclair, Mrs. Hopkins lived in West Orange and in Edison, residing in the Point Pleasant area since 1955, before finally moving to Brick.
For 28 years, she was employed by the Asbury Park Press as a proofreader.
Mrs. Hopkins was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
A beloved wife and loving mother, she was predeceased by her husband James H., in 1983.
Mrs. Hopkins is survived by sons David and his wife Mai, Toms River, Jeffrey and his wife Ana, Hornell, N.Y., and Kenneth his wife Mary, Metuchen; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
