Jean B. Mundorf
Point Pleasant resident Jean B. Mundorf died Tuesday, May 10 in Claremont Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Mundorf lived in Philadelphia before moving to Point Pleasant 40 years ago.

She was employed as a bookkeeper with Southern House, Point Pleasant Beach, before retiring.

She was a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband, John.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Mundorf, Point Pleasant; and two granddaughters, Megan Clayton and Nicole Toms.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Dunk
Treasure Island, Fla. resident the Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Dunk, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Monday, May 16 in Treasure Island, Fla.

He was 66 years old.

Raised in Bridgeport, he was a 1958 graduate of Paulsboro High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Union College in 1961, a master of divinity degree from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 1965 and a doctorate of ministry from Drew Theological School in 1982.

The Rev. Dr. Dunk began his ministry in Milltown and South Amboy and in 1963 moved to Brick, where he stayed until 1978. He then became pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Haddon Heights until 1986.

In 1986 he became the Central District Superintendent [Dean of the Cabinet, three years], until he moved to the Pitman United Methodist Church in 1992.

He was also an adjunct professor at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, teaching United Methodist history for nine years.

In 2001 he retired to Treasure Island, Fla., where he became active in the Pasadena Community United Methodist Church and was the chaplain for the Palms of Pasadena Hospital.

Throughout his life he service in many capacities. He was the New Brunswick District Youth Coordinator and served as chairman to the Conference Commission on Education, Long Range Planning Conference, Spiritual Formation Committee and the Episcopal Committee. He was also a member of the District Committee on Ministry, Board of Directors of the United Methodist Homes of New Jersey, the General Board of Global Ministry, the Board of Trustees for the Neighborhood Center in Camden and the Board of Directors for the Danellie Counseling Center.

Rev. Dr. Dunk was presented with the Brick Township Citizen of the Year Award in 1977, JC’s Distinguished Service Award in 1996 and Pitman’s Man of the Year Award in 2001.

He is survived by: his wife, Alice M. Meyer Dunk; five children, Mary Elizabeth Spencer, Lebanon, Alisa Dunk, Point Pleasant Beach, Carl Swanholm, Atco and Paul and Mark Swanholm, both of Haddon Heights.

He is also survived by: his mother, Frances Dunk, Sewell, a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Beryl Dunk, Freehold, and four grandchildren, Kathryn, Jason, Alexis and Tyler.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:45 a.m. today at the Moorestown United Methodist Church, 446 Camden Ave., Moorestown. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Township.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pitman UMC Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 7, Pitman, NJ 08071, or the Pasadena Community UMC Memorial Fund, 227 70th St., St. Petersburg, FL 33707.

Arrangements were by Kelley Funeral Home, Pitman.

Russell G. Linder
Point Pleasant resident Russell G. Linder died Sunday, May 15 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 55 years old.

Born in Shenandoah, Pa., Mr. Linder lived in Philadelphia before moving to Point Pleasant 35 years ago.

He was a salesman for Avalon Tile and Carpet Co., Toms River.

He is survived by: his wife, Joanne; his mother, Mildred Linder, of Philadelphia; and one sister, Janice Schooley.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Linder’s memory can be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, Point Pleasant Chapter, P. O. Box 820, Browns Mills NJ 08015-0820.

Helen F. Alfonso
Brick Township resident Helen F. Mayerski Alfonso, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Friday, May 13 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 81 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Alfonso lived in Highlands for 18 years before moving to Brick nine years ago.

She was a graduate of Dickinson High School.

She was a communicant of Epiphany Church, Brick.

She was a devoted homemaker and much loved mother of four. All who knew her loved her and her presence will be sorely missed.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, a son, Jamie, and her brother, Joseph.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Philip Jr., Brick, and John and Debbie, Point Pleasant; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Volker Jaeger, Brick; a brother, John Mayerski, Colts Neck; and two beloved grandchildren, Brett Jaeger and Christina Alfonso.

Funeral arrangements were from the Herbertsville Colonial Funeral Home, Brick.

Thelma De Ruyter
Point Pleasant resident Thelma De Ruyter died Saturday, April 30 in Claremont Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 85 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. De Ruyter lived there before moving to Point Pleasant.

She was predeceased in 1984 by her husband, John.

Surviving are one niece, Patricia Schrader, Point Pleasant; one nephew, Robert Rapp, Highlands; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Michael H. Moran
Venice, Fla., resident Michael H. Moran, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, April 29 in Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin.

He was 68 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mr. Moran lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Florida in 1996.

He was an Army veteran, joining in 1953 and retiring from the military with the rank of first sergeant in 1976.

He was employed as a passenger conductor for 20 years with NJ Transit along the Northeast Corridor Railroad, retiring in 1996.

He was predeceased by his brother, Patrick.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Janet M. Rega Moran; two sons, Michael, Point Pleasant, and John A., Sarasota, Fla.; three daughters, Jennie M. Allender, Port Charlotte, Fla., Karen M. Adams, Manahawkin, and Janet L. Moran, North Port, Fla.; one brother, James, Howell; three sisters, Mary Shahpazian, Lincoln Park, Margaret Goley, Florence, Ky., and Winnie O’Loughlin, Venice, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Barnegat Funeral Home, Barnegat.

George Phillips
Florida resident George Phillips, whose daughter lives in Mantoloking, died Thursday, March 24 in Florida.

He was 78 years old.

Born in Weehawken, George lived in Hudson County until moving to Brick in 1956. For many years, he spent his summers in Ocean County and his winters in Florida. He moved to Florida permanently in 1992.

Joining the Navy in 1943, Mr. Phillips served on the USS Vincennes during World War II. He received the American Theater Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific six stars and Philippine Liberation two stars. He re-enlisted in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1951 after serving a short time aboard the USS New Kent during the Korean War.

As a teenager, George worked as a longshoreman in Weehawken. He later was employed as a trucker with Ward Trucking Co. and was politically active in Teamster Union Local No. 560 during the 1960s. After an early retirement in the 1970s, George owned and operated a small construction business in Brick.

George loved to cook and stay fit; he will be remembered for his quick smile and entertaining stories. Never one to miss the opportunity for a practical joke, George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Mary Phillips.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Koos, Mantoloking, and Claire Phillips, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; his grandchildren, Chad Koos and his wife, Stacy, Crystal River, Fla., Eric Paugh, of New Jersey, and Jessica Paugh, DeLeon Springs, Fla.; and one great-grandson, Wade Koos.

A memorial service will be held in New Jersey at a later date.

Contributions in George’s memory may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns, Christ the King Monastery, 3900 Sherwood Blvd., FL 33445, the American Cancer Society, or the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick, 08723.

Richard M. Nase
Lehighton, Pa., resident Richard M. Nase, whose whose mother and brother live in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 26 in his home.

He was 74 years old.

Mr. Nase was born in Newark.

He was a 1950 graduate of Millburn High School.

He was employed as a maintenance worker with Fort Monmouth, before retiring. He was then employed for 15 more years in the maintenance department of Sunnyside Nursing Home, Wall Township,

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Wisconsin.

He was predeceased by his father, Donald Nase, and by his two brothers, Donald and Charles.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Mary J. Beecroft Nase; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Ermila, Summit Hill, Pa.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane N. and William Prall-Kenney, Freehold, Marlene N. and Ed Dundas, Summit, Miss., and Susan N. and John Morris, Brick Township; his mother, Elsie Munk Nase, Point Pleasant; two brothers, Robert, Toms River, and Bruce, Point Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, Ringgold, Pa.

Contributions in Mr. Nase’s memory may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice, 1510 Valley Center, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
