Unie Mae Johnston
Point Pleasant resident Unie Mae Stone Johnston died Tuesday, Dec. 21 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
She was 70 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, Mrs. Johnston was a lifelong resident of the borough.
She was employed for 42 years as a budget analyst in the program budget office with CECOM at Fort Monmouth, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, formerly located in Point Pleasant.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Dorothy Stone.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Montclair Ivey, with whom she lived; two sisters, Joan Howard, Brielle, and Jeannette Stone, Neptune City; one niece, Anita Stone; three nephews, Anthony, William and Ronald Stone; and one great nephew, Marcell Stone.
Funeral arrangements are from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach. Viewing hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Please call the funeral home for the time of the service.
Pamela Sarr O’Connor
Sea Girt resident Pamela S. Sarr O’Connor, whose in-laws live in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 4 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 42 years old.
Born in Nanticoke, Pa., Mrs. O’Connor was raised in Manasquan and had lived in Lakewood before moving to Sea Girt 12 years ago.
She was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Belmar and the Ann May School of Nursing at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Ms. O’Connor was a registered nurse with the Meridian Health System, Brick Hospital working until the time of her illness one year ago.
She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt.
Ms. O’Connor was predeceased by her brother,George Sarr.
Surviving are her husband of 15 years, John C. O’Connor, her son, Kyle, and her two daughters, Rebecca and Theresa, all at home; her parents, Leonard and Martha Sarr, Wall Township; two sisters, Karen Koivuhalme, West Cliff, Colo., and Nannette Forkan, Manahawkin; her nephew, Slade Koivuhalme, West Cliff, Colo.; in-laws, John and Carol O’ Connor, Point Pleasant, and Brian O’Connor, Manasquan.

Edith Moore Marano
Toms River resident Edith Moore Marano, formerly of Lavallette, died Tuesday, Nov. 30 in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
She was 102 years old.
Born in Tuxedo Park, N.Y., Mrs. Marano lived in Lavallette before moving to Toms River.
She earned a degree in 1926 from Russell Sage College, New York City.
She held a wide variety of positions, including assistant athletic director with Miss Porter’s School of Girls, in Connecticut, manager of a dining room at Yale University, and assistant manager of the Historic Marlboro Inn, Montclair.
Mrs. Marano played in numerous women’s tennis tournaments, and during one year in the 1930s, was ranked 22nd among amateur players in the United States.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Marano, by her mother and father, Elizabeth Fewell Moore and Robert Moore, who was one of the early teaching tennis professionals who came to the United States from England, and by her 12 siblings.
Surviving are her six nieces and nephews, Beatrice Coates, Harold Moore, Phyllis Spagnuolo, Barbara Clarke, Robert Kerr and John Kerr Jr.
Funeral arrangements are from the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette. Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial

William J. Vogel
Point Pleasant resident William J. Vogel died Thursday, Dec. 2 in his home.
He was 69 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mr. Vogel moved to Point Pleasant 35 years ago.
He was employed for 30 years with Ohio Casualty Insurance Co., retiring in 1998.
He loved his family and his town.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lynn, Brielle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bob, Toms River, and Linda and Scott, Point Pleasant; one brother, Walter; and six grandchildren, Brent, Brian, Scotty, Sara, Kaitlyn, and Brianna.

Frank M. Monaghan
Point Pleasant resident Frank M. Monaghan died Saturday, Dec. 4 in Claremont Center, Point Pleasant.
He was 73 years old.
Born in Newark, Mr. Monaghan lived there and in Linden and Elizabeth before moving to Point Pleasant six months ago.
He was employed as a county road worker with the Essex County road department, Newark, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the Bloomfield Elks Lodge.
He was predeceased by one brother, Robert Riddler, and two sisters, Claire Monaghan and Ellen Farley.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Monaghan; and his sister, Kathleen Monaghan, Point Pleasant.

Harold Hank Parker
Point Pleasant resident Harold Hank Parker died Thursday, Dec. 2 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 80 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, Mr. Parker was a lifelong resident.
He was employed as an electronics instructor with Fort Monmouth Signal School, and then was employed as an equipment specialist with CECOM, retiring in 1980.
He was a life member of VFW Post No. 4715, Point Pleasant Beach.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and served in the Navy for 20 years before retiring. During his years of service, he was stationed on the USS Hamilton DMS18 during the African invasion, and aboard the USS Walke in the Normandy invasion, and served with the 7th Fleet on many Pacific invasions. After the war, he was stationed on the USS Wisconsin.
He was predeceased in October by his wife of 55 years, Joan B. Parker; and by one son, Ronald.
Surviving are three sons, Harold Jr., Statesville, N.C., John, Point Pleasant, and Howard, Phoenix; three daughters, Mary Burns, Brick Township, Joanne Flachsmann, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Barbara Liu, Phoenix; one brother, Willis, Jackson; one sister, Betty Hurley, Brick; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Antonio A. Martins
Lavallette resident Antonio Augusto Martins died Sunday, Dec. 5 in his home.
He was 86 years old.
Born in Murtosa, Portugal, Mr. Martins came to the Ironbound section of Newark in 1936. He moved to Lavallette in 1980.
He was employed for over 45 years with Worthington Pumps, Harrison, retiring in 1980.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Newark, where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was predeceased by two sons, Antonio Jr. and Michael.
Surviving are his wife, Clotilde Zecarias Martins; two sons, Edward, and Joe; one daughter, Gloria Matos; three daughters-in-law, Natalie, Carmela and Maria Martins; one son-in-law, Manuel Matos; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Thomas F. Neral
Barnegat resident Thomas Fredrick Neral, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Friday, Dec. 3 in his home.
He was 78 years old.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., Mr. Neral lived in Point Pleasant Beach for 58 years before moving to Barnegat last February.
He was employed for 15 years as an assistant operator of oil movements with Exxon Bayway Refinery, Linden, retiring in 1988. Previously, he was employed for 25 years as a supervisor with Cities Service on the New Jersey Turnpike.
He was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
He was a member of The Old Guard of Greater Point Pleasant Beach and was active with the paper crew and Choraliers, a life member of the BPOE Lodge No. 1698, Point Pleasant, and was a member of the Exxon Bayway Refinery Annuitants Club of Linden.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Charles, and three sisters, Gertrude, Florence and Dorothy.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary Ketchersid Neral; one son, John, Lafayette; two daughters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Gil Lanterman, Forked River, Lacey, and Ann Marie Neral Murphy, Plumsted Township; one brother, Noel, Brick Township; and three grandchildren, Thomas Lanterman, and Joseph and Melissa Murphy.
