John M. Weiss
Toms River resident John M. Weiss, whose stepsons live in Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Nov. 24 in his home.

He was 70 years old.

Born in Garwood, Mr. Weiss lived in North Plainfield before moving to Toms River 15 years ago.

He was employed as an auto mechanic and welder, before retiring. He was employed for the last seven years as a bartender with the Gilford Park Yacht Club.

He was a member of the Gilford Park Yacht Club; Eagles Club, Plainfield; the Central Rifle and Pistol Club, East Orange; The Orange Hunting Club, and the NRA.

He was predeceased by his stepson, Joseph McCormack.

Surviving are his wife of 11 years, Eileen McCormack Weiss; two sons, John W. Weiss, of Pennsylvania, and Peter W. Weiss, South Bound Brook; seven stepsons, John McCormack, Stephen McCormack, and Robert McCormack, all of Point Pleasant, Michael McCormack and Kenneth McCormack, both of Pennsylvania, James McCormack, of Georgia, and Dermont McCormack, of New York; seven stepdaughters, Eileen Fuller and Denise O’Berine, both of Howell Township, Patricia McCormack and Diane Hall, both of Georgia, Maureen Pircher, Forked River, Lacey, Shelia McCormack, of Spain, and Colleen McCormack, of Washington State; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River.

William A. Walsh
Block Island, R.I., and Hobe Sound, Fla., resident William A. Walsh, whose son lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Sunday, Nov. 26 in his home in Florida.

He was 77 years old.

Born in Maywood, Mr. Walsh lived in Block Island, R.I., and had been a Florida winter resident for the past 12 years.

He earned a degree from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the football team.

He was a self-employed manufacturers representative in the lamp industry, before retiring.

He was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Church, Block Island, R.I.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 36, Block Island, R.I.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the paratroopers.

He was an avid boater and fisherman, and kept his vessel “Sea Hag” in the Block Island Boat Basin for many years until building his home on Block Island in the mid-1990s.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Agnes Trieger Walsh.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Audrey Shropshire Walsh; two sons, Thomas, Point Pleasant Beach, and James, Brick Township; one daughter, Susan Begley, Shelton, Conn.; one sister, Dorothy Otto, of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from the Henault-Gallogly Funeral Home, West Warwick, R.I. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:15 tomorrow in St. Andrew’s Parish Center, Spring Street, Block Island, R.I.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Walsh’s memory may be made to Block Island Health Services, or St. Martin & St. Lucie Hospice, 1201 S. E. Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.

William L. Pozsonyi
Point Pleasant resident William L. Pozsonyi died Wednesday, Dec. 1 in Tall Woods Care Center, Bayville.

He was 82 years old.

Born May 26, 1992 in Franklin Township, he was the son of John M. and Grace Kanczler Pozsonyi. He lived in Bound Brook most of his life, before moving to Point Pleasant in 1998.

Mr. Pozsonyi was a self-employed carpenter. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the Bound Brook Elks, Lodge 1388.

Mr. Pozsonyi was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged with a European African Middle Eastern Area and American Area Campaign Medal, the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal.

Mr. Pozsonyi was predeceased by his wife, Josephine, in 1996, and his brother, Julius.

He is survived by: his sons, William Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Point Pleasant, and Martin, Manahawkin; his brother, Zollie, of Florida; and four granddaughters, Robyn Sciarabba, Aimee Hoch, and Cara and Lauren Pozsonyi. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Evan William.

Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, at the Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 255 Mountain Ave., Brick, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at the St. Joseph Chapel, West Second St., Bound Brook. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Louis G. Silady
Brick Township resident Louis G. Silady, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Sunday, Aug. 8 in his home.

He was 75 years old.

Born in Passaic, Mr. Silady lived in Spotswood before moving to Brick 30 years ago.

He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was a retail manager at K & E Enterprises, Long Island for 15years. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Silady was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Princeton Commons Men’s Club, all of Brick.

He is survived by: his wife, Dorothy Argalas Silady; three sons, Jeffrey, of Point Pleasant, Louis, of Corning, N.Y., and Douglas, of Edison; one brother, Jacob Columbus; two sisters, Ruth, of Waterbury, Conn., and Betty, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandchildren, Natalie and Alex.

Funeral arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home, Brick Township.

Edith J. R. Laciopa
Edith Julia Rizzolo Laciopa, of Tinton Falls, whose son and daughter-in-law live in Bay Head, died Friday, Aug. 6 in Renaissance Gardens at Seabrook Village.

She was 99 years old.

Born in Newark, she lived there much of her life before living in Brielle for four years and Sea Girt for 30 years. She moved to Tinton Falls in 1998.

She is survived by: two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. Lacey and Jane, of Bay Head, and Richard Laciopa, of California; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Newman and Arthur, of Mt. Laurel; a niece, Pamela Berardi, of Tinton Falls; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by Bongarzone Funeral Home, Tinton Falls.

Rosemary E. W. Carr-Roman
Brick Township resident Rosemary E. Werner Carr-Roman, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Aug. 7 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 72 years old.

Born in Belleville, she lived in Piscataway, Hillsboro and Manahawkin before moving to Brick six years ago.

She was employed as a bookkeeper with Victor Homes of Wall for six years. Before that, she worked for 15 years as the general manager of the Aspen Hotel in Parsippany.

She was predeceased by: her first husband, Robert Pfeiffer Sr.; her second husband, Louis Earl Carr; and by her third husband, Joseph Roman.

She is survived by: one son, Robert E. Pfeiffer Jr., of Milford; two daughters, Linda A. Schweitzer, of Point Pleasant, and Susan M. Ettz, of Berlin, Md.; one brother, Henry L. Werner Jr., of Carlstadt; one sister, Carol Werner, of Brick; and four grandchildren, Robert, Jessica, William and Kevin.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were by O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick.

Cheryl A. R. Martindell
Manchester resident Cheryl Ann Reddington Martindell, who was raised in Bay Head, died Sunday, Aug. 8.

She was 47 years old.

She was born in Montclair and raised in Bay Head before moving to Manchester.

She was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School. She was a teacher’s aide for autistic children at Regional Day School, Jackson.

She was a member of Outdoor Women.

Mrs. Martindell was predeceased by her brother, Robert Reddington.

She is survived by: her parents, Robert and Beatrice Corcoran Reddington, Bay Head; her husband, Dane; two sons and a daughter, Michael, Matthew and Mary, all of Manchester.

She is also survived by: her brother, John, of Point Pleasant; a sister, Mary-Jo Larue and her husband Todd, of Point Pleasant; her mother- and father-in-law, Ernest and Susan Keer, of Bay Head; two brothers-in-law, Bryan and his wife Holly Martindell, Rhode Island, and Duffy and Jackie Keer, Bay Head; two sisters-in-law, Kathy and her husband Scott Stuhler, Bay Head, and Nancy and Philip Armstrong, Kansas; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be today, Aug. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road at Route 70, Brick Township.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach. Burial will be at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cheryl’s memory to the Shriner’s Hospital, Philadelphia.

Daniel R. Marshall
Howell resident Daniel R. Marshall, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Aug. 5 in his home.

He was 56 years old.

Born in Newark, Mr. Marshall lived in Clark before moving to Howell in 1987.

He was employed for 30 years as a maintenance splicer with Verizon in Howell, retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the Howell Elks Lodge 2515, and was a volunteer fireman for many years.

Mr. Marshall was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

He is survived by: his wife of 41 years, Nancy Popola Marshall; one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Wendy, of Howell; a daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Anthony Merz, of Point Pleasant; a brother, James, of Howell; and a grandson, Justin.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Marshall’s memory to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were by O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick.
