Bruce Robert Trent
Point Pleasant Beach resident Bruce Robert Trent died Monday, Sept. 6 in Lacey.

He was 58 years old.

Born in New Brunswick, Mr. Trent lived in Point Pleasant Beach since retiring.

He was a 1964 graduate of New Brunswick High School and attended Parsons College and Rider College, where he majored in business.

He was employed for approximately 20 years in sales with Trent Aluminum, North Brunswick, before retiring in the early 1990s.

He was a member of the Philo Masonic Lodge No. 243, South River, and AA.

He enjoyed photography and poetry.

He was predeceased by his mother, Muriel Wittick Trent.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel, Hightstown, and Jeffrey, Medford; his father, Robert Trent Sr., of Georgia; one brother, Robert, of Georgia; one sister, Beth Trent, Allentown; and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Contributions in Mr. Trent’s memory may be made to Shriners Hospital, Philadelphia.

Charles E. Burger
Spring Lake Heights resident Charles E. Burger, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept. 14 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 86 years old.

Born and raised in Bay Bridge, Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Burger had moved to Maplewood in 1945, then to Short Hills before moving to Spring Lake from 1955 to 1967. He then lived in Wall Township and then Sea Girt for 10 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1991.

He was employed for 48 years with First Fidelity Bank, Newark, before retiring in 1991. He then was employed for 10 years with Alex Estelle Lighting, Sea Girt.

He was a communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake, and had served as an usher for 40 years at the 11 a.m. Mass.

He was a member for many years of American Legion Post No. 523, Asbury Park, and was a Little League coach in Spring Lake.

He was an Army veteran of World War II who had served in New Guinea and received one battle star.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Jane A. Burger; two sons, Charles J., Brielle, and Kevin B., Toms River; six daughters, Mary Jane Gaines, New York City, Margaret Anne Burger, Spring Lake Heights, Nanci Kowalsky, Wall, Patricia Golden, Red Bank, Ginny Fallon, Toms River, and Susan Burger, Point Pleasant; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Geraldine A. Nowag
Jupiter, Fla., resident Geraldine A. “Jay” Iavarone Nowag, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Monday, Sept. 20 in St. Barnabas Hospice & Palliative Care Center at Monmouth, Long Branch.

She was 59 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Nowag lived in Point Pleasant Beach for 20 years and Middletown for 12 years before moving to Jupiter, Fla., four years ago.

She was 1963 graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School.

She was employed as an assistant to the director of Nursing at Point Pleasant Hospital, retiring in 1976.

She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased in 1999 by her father, Jerry Iavarone.

Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Gunther Nowag; three daughters and one son-in-law, Kimberly Ann Nowag, Brick Township, Nadine “Dena” and Michael Smalling, Rahway, and Karen Marie Cassidy, Toms River; her mother, Carmela Adinolfe Iavarone, Palm Coast, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Joseph and Lori Iavarone, South Plainfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Eva M. and Henry Scheyer, Rodgefield; and four grandchildren, Kayla, Nicholas, Andra and Dakota.

Funeral arrangements are from the Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home, 275 West Milton Ave., Rahway. A funeral service will be held at 8:45 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, Clark.

Charles Wehmeyer
Point Pleasant Beach resident Charles Wehmeyer died Monday, Sept. 20 in Sunnyside Manor, Manasquan.

He was 95 years old.

Born in Long Branch, Mr. Wehmeyer lived in Verona and then the Silver Beach section of Dover Township for 31 years before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1984.

He was the owner for over 50 years of Wehmeyer Vendors, Normandy Beach.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church, Normandy Beach, and was an active member of the church choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was the first Lector of St. Bonaventure Church, Lavallette, and was president of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Peace Church. Mr. Wehmeyer was a recipient of the Medallion Circle Award given to him by Bishop John Smith on Nov. 23, 1997.

He was a founding member of the Dover Brick First Aid Squad, serving for 35 years, a founding member of the Verona First Aid Squad, and a trustee of the Silver Beach Homeowners Association.

He was predeceased in 1999 by his wife of 64 years, Agnes Wehmeyer; in 1985 by his son, Charles; and in 1980 by a grandson, Marco Lamo.

Surviving are his twin daughters and one son-in-law, Joan and Larry Koerner, Toms River, and Jean Lamo, Brick Township; four brothers, Edward, William, John and James; one sister, Eleanor Santangelo; a daughter-in-law, Rose; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered today at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, Normandy Beach. Condolences may be sent to www.ryan funeral home.com.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Wehmeyer’s memory may be made to Dover Brick First Aid Squad or a charity of choice.

Mary Elizabeth Duggan
Point Pleasant resident Mary Elizabeth Duggan died Thursday, Sept. 16.

She was 63 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Duggan moved to Lavallette in 1958 before moving to Point Pleasant in 1965.

She was employed for 21 years with the Ocean County Board of Election, Toms River, retiring in 2003.

She was a loving wife, beloved mother, and devoted nana, and will be forever missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her husband, William Duggan; four sons and three daughters-in-law, William and Terry, Conyers, Ga., John, Portsmouth, Va., Patrick and Suzette, Allenwood, Wall Township; and Dennis and Jodie, Brick Township; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Joan Murphy, Point Pleasant; one sister, Marion Sinnott, Lyndhurst; and six grandchildren, Shaunna, Ryan, Craig, Krissy, Jeremy, and Damian.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Sarah Sharpe
Point Pleasant resident Sarah Sharpe died Monday, Sept. 20 in her home.

She was 75 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, Mrs. Sharpe was a lifelong resident.

She had been employed with the Ocean County Board of Social Services, retiring in 1999.

She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1991, and by her son, Richard.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, William and Sandy, Brick Township; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Bill Feron, Point Pleasant, Sharon and Edwin Bouton, Bayville, Berkeley, and Denise Sharpe and her companion, Barbara, of Florence; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Vincent Russo
Farmingdale resident Vincent Russo, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Sunday, Sept. 19 in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.

He was 89 years old.

Born in New York City, Mr. Russo lived there before moving to Farmingdale.

He retired form the U.S. Post Office, New York City, in 1970, and then was employed for 10 years with Harris & Mallow Clocks, Lakewood, before retiring in 1980.

He was a communicant of St. Veronica’s Church, Howell Township, and a member or the senior citizens organization of the church.

He was a member of the Howell Senior Citizens.

He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Libonati Russo; three sons, Dominick, Howell, Julius, Brick Township, and Joseph, Point Pleasant; one daughter, Lucie Anne Gildea, Howell; one brother, Frank, and one sister, Victoria, both of Howell; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Lakewood Funeral Home, Howell.

Alfred Alexander Jr.
Point Pleasant resident Alfred R. Alexander Jr. died Monday, Sept 20 in Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.

He was 90 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Alexander lived in Moorestown, Mount Laurel, and New Port Richey, Fla., before moving to Point Pleasant.

He was employed for over 40 years as a quality control supervisor with RCA, Camden.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel Alexander, and by his daughter, Mabel Gates.

Surviving are one son, Alfred Alexander; one daughter, Arlette Perry; two sister, Mildred Anthony and Evelyn Lang; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River.
