Platt Jay Gilmartin
Point Pleasant resident Platt Jay “P.J.” Gilmartin died Thursday, May 27 in his home.
He was 51 years old.
Born in Morristown, Mr. Gilmartin was raised in Morris Plains and lived in southern California before moving to Point Pleasant 10 years ago.
He was a 1974 magna cum laude graduate of Rutgers University, Cook College, New Brunswick, and from the Air Force ROTC.
He was a U.S. Air Force captain, and received two Air Force commendation medals for meritorious service. He was most recently employed by the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth and was enrolled in the master’s program at the Naval Post Graduate School. He previously was employed with Con-Lux Coating, Edison.
He was a member of the National Contracting Managing Association.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Thomas Gilmartin.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Kathleen Hall Gilmartin; two daughters, Courtney and Caitlin, both at home; his father-in-law, Charles Hall, of Texas; and aunt and uncle, Margaret and John Dugan; and his cousins, Marie Gilmartin Boynton and her husband, William, and Jack and Michael Dugan.
Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick Township.

Austin D. Frazee
Point Pleasant resident Austin DeVoe Frazee died Tuesday, May 11 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 84 years old.
Born in Allenwood, Wall Township, Austin lived in Point Pleasant since the mid-1940s.
He was a graduate of Manasquan High School.
As a professional piano and organ player and teacher, Austin shared his gift of music with thousands of people and hundreds of families throughout his career. Many of his students have gone on to fulfilling careers in the music business.
He was a life member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 399.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines from 1942-1946 as a Tech Corporal radio operator.
Austin’s wit, talent and love will be missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Audrey Gifford Frazee, who he married
on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941. They enjoyed a life of extensive travel throughout the United States and abroad.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Janet, Toms River; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Jane Frazee, Walnutport, Pa., and Joanne and Lincoln Jividen, Point Pleasant; two brothers, Gerald, and his family, of Manasquan, and Charles, and his family, of Virginia; one sister,Virginia Jacobs, and family, of Wall; 13 grandchildren, Mason, Audrey, Laura, Liana and Steven Frazee, David, Scott and Mary Beth Roskos, George Hoernig, Crystal Cassella, Edward Jividan, Deanna Boylan and Jennifer Pellosie; four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Luke Boylan, Jimmy Cassell, and Aylor Roskos.
Funeral arrangements are from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Visiting will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Helen O’Neil
Lakewood resident Helen O’Neil, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, May 5 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
She was 93 years old.
Born in Harrison, Ms. O’Neil lived in Point Pleasant and Spring Lake Heights before moving to Harrogate, Lakewood.
She was employed as a bookkeeper with Jersey State Bank, Jersey City.
She was one of the original communicants of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant and was a member of the St. Martha’s Beehive, AARP and the Sewing Guild at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Ann Donnelly O’Neil, her stepmother, Elizabeth Donnelly O’Neil, and her brother Joseph O’Neil.
Surviving are two sisters Mary O’Neil, Harrogate, Lakewood, and Anna Rue, Forked River; three nieces Kathleen O’Neil, Avon-By-The-Sea, Anne Brennan, Forked River, and Maureen Esposito, Barnegat Light; and her grand nieces Kathryn Esposito, Susan Sadowski and Mary Beth Esposito; and her great-grandniece Anna Sadowski.

Barbara S. Keane
Point Pleasant resident Barbara Sommer Keane died Thursday, May 6 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
She was 70 years old.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Keane was raised in Millburn and lived in Chatham, Wall Township, and Bay Head before moving to Point Pleasant.
She was a graduate of Millburn High School and attended Marjorie Webster Junior College.
She was a homemaker.
She was predeceased in 2000 by her husband of 45 years, Philip D. Keane, in 2003 by her daughter, Lisa Wittkop, in 1987 by her grandson, Robert Scott Chambers, and in 2003 by her son-in-law, John Chambers III.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Philip D. Jr., and Bruce and Caron; three daughters and one son-in-law, Beverly Chambers, Pamela and Jim Schweitzer, and Sally Keane, all of Point Pleasant; one sister, Marilyn Nonemaker, Exton, Pa.; a son-in-law, Jahn Wittkop, Brick; 10 grandchildren, John IV, Beverly and Brian Chambers, Jimmy and Chris Schweitzer, Chelsea Wittkop, and Michael, Kirsten, Alex and Griffin Keane; and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Keane.

Margaret E. Ludwig
Point Pleasant resident Margaret Elizabeth Ludwig died Thursday, May 6 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
She was 95 years old.
Born in Glenridge, Mrs. Ludwig lived in Verona for 31 years before moving to Point Pleasant 31 years ago.
She was employed for many years as the personal secretary of Senator Hawk of New Jersey, in Montclair, before retiring many years ago.
She was a member of St.Thomas Lutheran Church, Brick, and a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Point Pleasant. Also, she was a former member and Sunday school teacher and member of the choir of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bloomfield.
She was a member of the Lady Guard of Point Pleasant, and a former member of the Children’s Service League, Verona.
Surviving are her husband, Herbert W. Ludwig; one son, Herbert E., West Caldwell; two daughters, Jacqueline Mori, Wilton, Conn., and Patricia Trimmer, Caldwell; seven grandchildren, Bradley and Michael Ludwig, Christopher Mori, Heather Bessey, Jennifer Keenan, Kimberly Sgro, and Kenneth Trimmer; and eight great-grandchildren.

Florence E. Patterson
Point Pleasant resident Florence E. Patterson died Thursday, May 6 in Burnt Tavern Convalescence Center, Brick Township.
She was 88 years old.
Born in Howell, Mrs. Patterson was a lifelong resident until moving to Point Pleasant.
She was employed as a finisher with Active Coat Factory, Freehold, and then as an inspector with Precision Filament, Freehold.
She was an active member of the Bethesda First United Methodist Church, Adelphia.
She was predeceased in 1970 by her husband, Charles Edward Patterson.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, E. Wayne and Betty J. Patterson, Point Pleasant; four grandchildren, Lori Shelton, Edward Patterson, Tamara Woods and Peggy Ann Haren; and five great-grandchildren.

Anthony V. Gregory
Lavallette resident Anthony V. Gregory died Sunday, May 9 in his home.
He was 87 years old.
Born in Pompton Lakes, Mr. Gregory lived in Union City before moving permanently to Lavallette in 1984, having summered there since 1955.
He attended New Jersey City State College and received a master’s degree in education from Columbia University, New York City.
He was employed for 17 years as a history teacher with Union Hill High School, Union Hill, and for the next 33 years as the principal of Washington School, Union City, before retiring in 1987.
He was a parishioner of St. Bonaventure Church, Lavallette.
He was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and the National Association of Principals.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years of golfing with close friends and family. He had three holes in one.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Pauline Zuccaro Gregory; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas V. and Gerry, Linwood; two sisters, Anne Gregory and Mary Echeueria, both of Cresskill; one grandson and his wife, Paul and Meghan, Chatham; one granddaughter and her husband, Toni-Lynn and James Travagline, Northfield; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Conor and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
