Kenneth H. Spittler
Lavallette resident Kenneth H. Spittler died Monday, May 10 in his home.
He was 81 years old.
Born in Fair Lawn, Mr. Spittler lived in Midland Park before moving permanently to Lavallette in 1980. He had summered in Lavallette for 50 years and spent his winters in Stuart, Fla.
He was employed for 35 years as a supervisor with PSE&G, Clifton, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of St. Elisabeth Episcopal Chapel by the Sea, Ortley Beach.
He was a member of the Elks, Toms River, and of the F&AM, Wyckoff.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Demore Spittler; two daughters, Lois Grace, Lavallette, and Janet, Spittler, of New York; one brother, Richard, Lavallette; one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Wilken, Hawthorne; and one grandchild, Kirsten Grace.

Greenwood Rankin
Point Pleasant resident Greenwood Rankin died Thursday, Jan. 15 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
He was 85 years old.
Born in Brielle, Mr. Rankin lived in Manasquan before moving to Point Pleasant 45 years ago.
He was a graduate of Manasquan High School.
He was employed for over 40 years as an electrician with Allen M.Cierpik, Inc., Manasquan.
He was a member of the Wall-Spring Lake Masonic Lodge No. 73, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1838, Manasquan.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, served as a radio operator on a B-17 Liberator.
He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Eckert Rankin, his parents, John and Helen Rankin, and his brother, John S.
Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Leslie R. and Beverly, and a nephew, Frank Rankin, and his wife, Kathleen, all of Toms River; and several great nieces and nephews.

Harold A. Platt
Brick Township resident Harold A. “Hal” Platt, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Jan. 17 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 88 years old.
Born and raised in Baraboo, Wis., Mr. Platt lived in Scotch Plains and Point Pleasant before moving to Brick 17 years ago.
He was self-employed for 25 years with Sharp Saw Service Inc., Rahway, retiring in 1985.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head.
He was a past exalted ruler of both Elks Lodge No. 2182, Scotch Plains, and Elks Lodge No. 1698, Point Pleasant.
He was a Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and proudly served his country as a captain.
He was predeceased by his sister, Caryle Nelson.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marie Ley Platt; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Judith, North Cape May, Gerard and Barbara, Point Pleasant, and Richard and Eileen, Beachwood; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Joan and Bernard Mazulewicz, Chaumont, N.Y., Diane Platt, Middletown, Marilou Platt, Chesterfield, Va., and Carolyn and Jeffrey Shirley, Lacona, N.Y.; two sisters, Laverne Clark and Lois Martinson, both of Madison, Wis.; and eight grandchildren, Eric, Lisa, Michael, Troy, Matthew, John, Jenna and Mia.

Marie C. Schaller
Point Pleasant resident Marie C. Schaller died Monday, Jan. 19 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.
She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Schaller lived in Union before moving to Point Pleasant.
She was employed in the detective bureau of the Union Police Department, retiring in 1974.
She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Schaller, the former owner of Henry’s Tavern, Livingston.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Robert Furlong, Elizabeth, and Maryann and John Clear, Point Pleasant; one granddaughter and her husband, T.J. and Scott Inderwies; and four great-grandchildren, Sara, Kaitlyn, Brett,and Emma.

Catherine Hahn Stass
Point Pleasant Beach resident Catherine Hahn Stass died Sunday, Jan. 18 in her home.
She was 93 years old.
Born and raised in New Brunswick, Mrs. Stass lived there until moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1984.
She was a homemaker. Many years ago she was employed with General Cigar and Alexander Ungar, New Brunswick.
She was a loving mother.
She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Nicholas Stass; her mother, Susanna Hahn; one brother, Frank Hahn; and one sister, Sue Solomayer.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Catherine and Roger Webster, Lincroft, Agnes Stass, Point Pleasant Beach, and Joan and Joe Baur,Thorofare; two sisters, Josephine Grober and Anne Keller, both of New Jersey; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie and Charles Webster.

Ruth A. Emmons
Ventura, Calif., resident Ruth A. Emmons, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Jan. 15 in Victoria Care Center, Ventura, Calif.
She was 81 years old.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., Mrs. Emmons lived in Marlboro and Point Pleasant before moving to Ventura.
She was a 1940 graduate of New Rochelle High School.
She was employed for many years with New Jersey Employment Services, retiring in 1982.
She was an active volunteer with Point Pleasant Hospital.
She had a passion for playing both the piano and organ, and preformed in numerous recitals.
She was predeceased in 1977 by her husband, Franklin V. Emmons.
Surviving are one son, William Emmons, Oxnard, Calif; one daughter, Patti Emmons Sigman, Paris; and two grandsons, David and Benjamin Sigman, both of Paris.
Funeral arrangements are from the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold. Visiting will be at 11 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m.
