ALICE NILSEN ELLIS, 97, of OCEAN GROVE, died May 22, 2002, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the First Baptist Church, Asbury Park and the Senior Citizens Club of the Salvation Army of Asbury Park. She was formerly a trustee of the Ocean Grove Homeowner's Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ocean Grove First Aid Squad. She was a former member of the Greenwood Baptist Church and the Memorial Baptist Church, both of Brooklyn.
Born in Brooklyn, N. Y., she had lived in Brooklyn and summered in Ocean Grove since 1931 before moving here in 1965. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles B. Ellis in 1982. Surviving are a grand nephew and a grand niece.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Tues. morn., May 28th at 11:00 with burial following at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N. Y. There were no calling hours.
ANGELINA “JULIE” SCANNAPIECO, 73, of NEPTUNE, died May 28, 2002, at the Neptune Rehab. & Care Ctr., Neptune. She had worked as a seamstress for Roxanne Swimsuits, Neptune for more than forty years until retiring in 1990.
Miss Scannapieco was a communicant at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R. C. Church, Asbury Park and a member of the International Lady Garment Worker's Union. Born in Neptune, N. J., she had lived here all her life.
Surviving aretwo nephews, Thomas M. and his wife, Denise and daughter Deena of Jackson and Michael and his wife, Diana, a son, Michael, Jr. and children, Michael, Angela, Nina and grandson, Anthony and an uncle and several aunts.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R. C. Church, Asbury Avenue at Pine Street, Asbury Park on Fri. morn., May 31st at 10:00 with burial following at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Neptune. Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Thurs. from 2-4 and 7-9. Those who wish may send flowers or a contribution to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church would be appreciated.
MARIAN FOGAL, 76, of OCEAN GROVE, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She worked as a commercial artist for Alexander's Department Store, and J. J. Newberry Department Stores, both in New York City. She was a member of the New Jersey Audubon Society and the Littoral Society. She was a graduate of Cooper Union Art School, New York City.
Born in Asbury Park, she lived in New York City before moving to Ocean Grove 10 years ago.
Surviving are a brother, Douglas W. Fogal of Jim Thorpe, Pa., a sister, Jean B. Smart of Williston, Vt., a close friend, Lois Coderre of Lakewood, and seven nieces and nephews.
Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Ave. Ocean Grove on Saturday, June 8th, from 11:00 to Noon. There was a Memorial Ceremony at Noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the New Jersey Audubon Society, P. O. Box 542, Red Bank 07701 would be appreciated.
ELLEN RUTH MUELLER, 90, of OCEAN GROVE, died Friday, June 28, 2002 at the Sky View Health Care Center, Croton-on-Hudson, N. Y. Mrs. Mueller had worked as an executive secretary for the Bayer Corp., New York City until retiring. She was born in Newark, N. J. Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Brownell of Chappaqua, N. Y.
A graveside ceremony was held at the Monmouth Memorial Park Mausoleum on Sat. morn., July 6th at 10:00 with entombment following. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Presbyterian Church on the Hill, 10 Cold Indian Spring Road, Wayside 07712, would be appreciated.
GOLDIE G. SIMON, 87, of BRADLEY BEACH formerly of Edison, died Saturday, July 29, 2002 at home. With her late husband, Frank, she had owned Simon's Sweet Shop, Edison, then Simon's Apartments in Miami, Fla., and later, Simon's Fruit and Vegetables, Edison. Mrs. Simon was a member of the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church, New Brunswick and the Ladies Noodle Club. She was a great cook and baker and she and her husband loved to travel with friends. Born in New Brunswick, she was a lifelong resident of Edison before coming here in March. She was predeceased in 1994 by her husband of 55 years and by a sister Mary Ogorzalek. Surviving are a son, Frank D. Simon and his wife, Adele, of Edison, a daughter, Barbara L. Toth and her husband, Charles, of Bradley Beach, a sister, Delores "Dee" Gulotta of Edison, five grandchildren, Christopher, Susan, and Robert Toth all of Bradley Beach, and Jennifer and Frank D. Simon, Jr., both of Edison and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. There were no calling hours scheduled.
STEWART RUSHTON, 84, of Tinton Falls, formerly of INTERLAKEN, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was formerly the owner of Rushton's Inc., Asbury Park, an office equipment and supplies business founded by his father, Alfred, in the early 1900's. Mr. Rushton retired in 1988. He was an avid fly fisherman and was the owner of Grants Camps, Rangeley, Maine for many years.
Mr. Rushton was a member of the Wayside Gun Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1333, Asbury Park and the Presbyterian Church on The Hill, Wayside, where he had served as a Deacon. He was a graduate of the Asbury Park High School and Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WW II, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Born in Asbury Park, he was a life long resident of Interlaken before moving to Tinton Falls. He was predeceased by a son, Alfred Turk Rushton. Surviving are his wife, Naomi Turk Rushton, a son, Dr. Stewart Rushton, Jr., of Hope, Arkansas, a daughter, Penny Vaccaro of Interlaken, and five grandchildren. A funeral ceremony was held at the Presbyterian Church on the Hill, 10 Cold Indian Spring Road, Wayside, on Sat. morn., July 13th at 11:00 with burial following at the Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Friends were invited to call at the church from 10:30 until the time of the ceremony. GERALD D. PROFITA, 73, of BRADLEY BEACH and DELRAY BEACH, FL, died Thursday, at home in New Jersey. He was the president of Benjamin F. Shaw Construction Company, Wilmington, DE until retiring in 1985. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of WW II. Mr. Profita was born in Jersey City and was pre-deceased by a son, Scott Profita, in 2001.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kough Profita, five sons, Gerald Thomas, of Wall Twp., Michael, of Tenafly, Kenneth, of Centerville, DE, Robert, of Neptune City and John, of Bradley Beach, a daughter, Jeanmarie Curley of Gaithersburg, MD, 21 grandchildren Leslie, Kristin, Amanda, Tracie, Michelle, G. Daniel, Hillary, Nicholas, Terry, Katie, Lizzie, Jessica, Ashley, Jaci, Erin, and Mason Profita, Matthew, Colin, Adam, and Gillian Curley and Anthony Limauro, and three great grandchildren, Sage, Liam and Emily. WILLIAM W. GILL, 64, of ASBURY PARK died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Jersey Shore Med. Center, Neptune. He had worked as a bridge operator for the State of New Jersey until retiring. Mr. Gill was the former owner of Bill's Luncheonette at the Asbury Park Convention Hall for many years. He was a longtime resident of Avon, Asbury Park and Neptune City. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter J. and Estelle Friedman Gill. Surviving are a cousin Carol Murphy of Toms River. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled. CORINE EGGERS, 66, of OCEAN GROVE, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at home. She had worked for Grants Department Store, Little Silver until retiring. She was a member of the Keyport United Methodist Church. Born in Keyport, she lived there before moving to Ocean Grove 17 years ago. She was predeceased by her brother, John Keith Booket in 1996 and by her mother Dorothy Reynolds Booket in 1988. Surviving are her sister Shirley Brautigam of Asbury Park and many nieces and nephews. was private.
THOMAS B. REARICK, 45, of OCEAN GROVE, died Saturday, September 14, 2002 at home. He was a self employed house painter. He was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove. Born in Neptune, he had lived all of his life at the Jersey Shore. Surviving are his son, Christopher Rearick of Farmingdale, a brother James C. Rearick of Clarksburg and a sister, Betsy Meeker of Wall Township. A memorial ceremony was held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New York & Embury Avenues, Ocean Grove on Sat. aft., Sept 28th at 3:00. JOSEPH GIACCHI, 85, of OCEAN GROVE, died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. He was a sanitation worker for the New York City Department of Sanitation until retiring. He was born in New York. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Benestante Giacchi, two sons, Joseph of New York and John of Neptune, a daughter, JoAnne DiPadova of Ocean Grove, a brother, Pat Giacchi of Bronx, two sisters, Rose Delvecchio of Brooklyn and Mary Giacchi of Rockland County, NY. A graveside ceremony was held at the Holmdel cemetery Mausoleum on Mon. aft., Sept. 30th at 12:00 with entombment following. There were no calling hours.
JAN KOLENDO, 98, of Bradley Beach, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 at the Imperial Care Center, Neptune. Born in Poland, he was a police officer there and he later worked for Wallace and Tiernan, a manufacturer of heavy equipment in New Jersey. He was a World War II veteran, serving in a Polish regiment under British command during several campaigns in Europe. Surviving are his wife, Olga Zylicz Kolendo, a daughter and son in law, Janina and Robert Muller of Cape Coral, Fla., three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Friday October 11, 2002. A graveside ceremony followed at the Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown, PA.
