JOHN LOWE, 89, of OCEAN GROVE, died March 10, 2004, at the Jer. Shore Univ. Med. Ctr., Neptune. He had worked as an accountant for the Rotary Machine Co., Andover, Mass. for more than forty five years until retiring in 1978. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II. Born in Newark, N. J., he had lived in Derry, N. H. before coming here 23 years ago. He was predeceased by two wives, the former Marion Jeffrey in 2003 and the former Janet Fell in 1998. Surviving is a daughter. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled at this time. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, N. J. 07702 would be appreciated.

WINIFRED M. WANAMAKER, 74, of Ocean Grove, grandmother of Kyle, Jesse and Seth, died on March 11, 2004, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Along with her much beloved grandchildren, she is survived by her husband of 50 years, Albert Wanamaker, her son, Mickey Wanamaker and his wife, Diane Umansky, of New York City, and a brother, Albert Reynolds, of California. Born in New York City, Mrs. Wanamaker and her husband lived in Rockland County, NY and Florida, and have had a home in Ocean Grove since 1970. Mrs. Wanamaker attended Ascension Church in Bradley Beach and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Asbury Park. A memorial ceremony will be scheduled in the spring, in Ocean Grove. In lieu of flowers, please send mass cards, or a donation to the Ronald McDonald House, 131 Bath Ave. Long Branch 07740 where Mrs. Wanamaker was a long-time volunteer. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled at this time. There are no calling hours.

JANISE L. BACKLUND, 51, of NEW YORK, N. Y., died March 10, 2004 in New York, due to multiple injuries in a street accident. She had been a vice president for the Republic Bank of NY, New York City. Mrs. Backlund was a graduate of the Colts Neck and Freehold Regional Schools and had received a degree from Boston University in Fine Arts.
Born in Long Branch, N. J., she had lived in Colts Neck before moving to New York. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Tompkins Backlund, formerly of Interlaken. Surviving are her father, James B. Backlund of Colts Neck, a brother, Jonathan Backlund of Menlo Park, CA, two sisters, Lorene Sagotsky of New York and Leslie Berg of Somerset, and four nephews.
A private funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove with burial following at the Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch, N. J. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the First United Methodist Church, Grand & First Avenues, Asbury Park, N. J. 07712 would be appreciated.

DORIS E. REYNOLDS, 75, of OCEAN GROVE, died March 16, 2004, at her residence. She had worked as a telephone operator for New Jersey Bell Telephone, Asbury Park, N. J. for many years until retiring. Miss Reynolds was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Born in Jackson Mills, N. J., she had lived in Jackson & Asbury Park before moving here thirty eight years ago. Surviving are several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside committal ceremony is planned at Harmony Cemetery, Lakewood. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled at this time. There are no calling hours.

PETER J. LARDIERE, 86, of EAST ORANGE, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at the MediCenter, Neptune City. He was a real estate broker and owned and operated a real estate agency in Orange, N. J. for many years until retiring in 1985. Mr. Lardiere was a U. S. Air Force veteran of WW II.
Born in Newark, N. J., he had lived there before moving to East Orange 40 years ago. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Rose Belasco in 1994.
Surviving are a son, Barron P. Lardiere of Toms River, a daughter, Lois F. Hart of Ocean Grove, a stepdaughter, Jacqueline Klein of Orlando, Fla., a brother, Carl, of Union, eight grandchildren, William Hart of Cherry Hill, Robert Hart of Jackson, Kimberley Keller of Stafford, Va., Lisa Spinney of Toms River, Christine Kong of Polk Twp, Pa., Melissa Cerbone of Howell, James Smolenski of Branchburg, and Janine Klein of Orlando, Fla., and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, on Thursday eve. from 7-9. and Fri. morn. from 10:30 to 11:00. A funeral ceremony followed at 11:00.

JENNIE M. SEMEL, 91, of OCEAN GROVE, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Neptune.
She was a clerical worker for the American General Insurance Company, New York, N. Y. for more than twenty years until retiring. After leaving American General, she was employed by the Melvin Ramer Insurance Company of Passaic, N. J.
Born in Brooklyn, N. Y., she had lived in Clifton for 40 years before moving here in 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Gloria and her husband Peter Freem of Ocean Grove and Florence Graving of Houston Texas, a sister, Freda Zalman of Florida, her grandchildren, Leon and Laurie Ciampa of Westfield, Paul and Maryann Young of Jackson, Andrew Young of Ocean Twp., Ian Dix of Colorado and Melanie Sullivan of California and her greatgrandchildren Alaina and Kelly Anne Young Daniella, Jessica and Michelle Ciampa, Andrew Young, Jr. and Rachel and Brigid Dix.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Wed. morn., April 1st at 11:00 with burial following at the King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton, N. J. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Wed. from 10 to 11.

ROBERT H. CATLEY, 71, of OCEAN GROVE, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Jer. Shore Univ. Med. Ctr., Neptune. He had worked as a fireman for the Ocean Grove Board of Fire Commissioners for more than thirty five years until retiring in 1995.
Mr. Catley was a former chief and member of the Washington Fire Company of the Ocean Grove Fire Departments. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the N. J. Firemens Association and the N. J. Exempt Firemans Association. Born in Ocean Grove, N. J., he had lived in Ocean Grove all his life. Surviving are his wife, the former Josephine Scorzelli, a daughter, Teresa M. Monroe and her husband, William, of Neptune, a brother, Albert Catley and his wife, Ruth, of Ocean Grove, a sister, Doris Gilbert of Bradenton, Fla., and three granddaughters, Christine, Megan and Caitlin Monroe, all at home.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Mon. morn., April 5th at 11:00 with burial following at the St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall, N. J. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday 6-9. Those who wish may send a contribution to the Washington Fire Department, 48 Olin Street, Ocean Grove, 07756.

ELIZABETH PRAZASKY, 76, of TINTON FALLS, formerly of Ocean Grove, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at the Jer. Shore Univ. Med. Ctr., Neptune. She had worked as a clerk for the N. J. Bell Telephone Co., Newark, N. J. Born in Kearny, N. J., she had lived there before moving here twenty five years ago. Surviving are eight nieces and nephews, Joanne Kacperowski, Donna Brink, Maureen Stivale, Robert, Michael and Martin Miller, Barbara Swiat and Richard Prusicki and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Wed. morn., April 7th at 11:30 with entombment following at the Monmouth Memorial Park Mausoleum, Tinton Falls. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Wed. from 10-11:30.

CLAIRE L. "Judy" NEWMAN, 80, of OCEAN GROVE, died May 3, 2004, at the Jer. Shore Univ. Med. Ctr., Neptune. She had worked as a secretary at Fort Monmouth's Camp Evans, Wall, N. J. until retiring. More recently she had worked in the office of Dr. S. Ravine, Wall until 1984. In the 1940s and '50s she was a professional vocalist in north Jersey and the Shore area with various bands including Frank Dailey at the Meadow Brook, Cedar Grove and the Ivanhoe in Newark. She was also a guest soloist on WJLK and at various churches and religious functions.
Mrs. Newman was formerly a member of the Community Baptist Church, Shark River Hills where she had served as a deaconess, secretary, Sunday school teacher, a co-leader of the youth group and as a vice president of the Ladies Guild. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove since 1993 where she had served on the Education Committee and Prayer Chain. She was a member of St. Paul's auxiliary and a volunteer at the Francis Asbury Manor, Ocean Grove where she resided since 2002. Mrs. Newman was a former president of the Central Jersey Christian Business and Professional Women of America. She had been president of the Forever Young Club of Neptune, a former member of the Neptune Senior Club and was a member and volunteer at the Neptune Senior Center. She was a member of the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees, the Shark River Hills Yacht Club and the SRH Fire Company #4 Aux.
Born in Montclair, N. J., she had lived in Newark, East Orange and Shark River Hills before moving to Ocean Grove two years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent E. Newman in 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Lori O'Neil and her husband, Neptune Police Chief Howard, a grandson, Michael H. O'Neil and a granddaughter, Allie L. O'Neil, both at home and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony was held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New York & Embury Avenues, Ocean Grove on Thurs. morn., May 6th at 10:00 with burial following at the Glendola Cemetery, Wall, N. J. Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9.
