JOAN E. CIOK, 56, of OCEAN GROVE, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at home. She worked as a secretary for Johnson and Johnson, New Brunswick, until retiring. She was the former vice president of the Embury Arms Condo Association, Ocean Grove, and was active in volunteer work. Born in Somerville, she lived in Bridgewater before moving to Ocean Grove seven years ago.
Surviving are a son, Jason J. Ciok of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Robin M. Ciok of Highlands; a brother, David Marcin of Milford, and an aunt, Theresa Urban of Somerville.
A memorial service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Boardwalk Pavilion on Ocean Avenue in Ocean Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street Shrewsbury, NJ 07702, would be appreciated.

EDITH McCLURG ACKER, of Pitman, New Jersey; formerly of Ocean Grove and Bloomfield died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the Pitman Manor. She was born on April 18, 1905 in New York City. Mrs. Acker was the office manager in the Bloomfield Junior High School for many years and was a member of the Pitman Presbyterian Church. She leaves a son, Donald R. Peloubet of Lake Hiawatha, a daughter, Jean Peloubet Thompson of Silver Spring, MD, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Private internment was held at the Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield.
The OCEAN GROVE MEMORIAL HOME, Ocean Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

ELLIE E. RUSH-FORNAROTTO, 57, of Ocean Grove, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, of a sudden illness. She was the daughter of the late Dr. H. Floyd Rush and Isabelle Rush, both of Ocean Grove and was predeceased by a brother, Bryan F. Rush, also of Ocean Grove. She was a graduate of Neptune High School, and the Stuart School of Business, East Orange. A lifelong resident of the shore area, she was employed by the State of New Jersey for over 16 years, and before that she was a homemaker. During her younger years, she was a member of “Ten New Teens”, and later she was a founding member of the “Sand-Pebbles.” She loved the beach. Mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend, she was many things to many people. She leaves behind a loving sister and brother in law, Marie I. and Jeff Walton of Howell, three children and their spouses, Joseph N. and Dana A. Fornarotto of Long Branch, Anthony M. and Marie Fornarotto of Pennsylvania, Jennifer L. Fornarotto and Hector Lugue of Long Branch, three grandchildren, Angelarose Marie and Nicholas William Fornarotto, of Long Branch, and Fury Thomas Lugue of Long Branch, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews as well as countless loving and devoted friends, also a brother Robbin F. Rush of Florida.
A memorial service was held on the boardwalk at the pavilion in Ocean Grove on Tuesday evening, June 29th at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 19 Schoolhouse Road, Somerset, N. J. 08873 would be appreciated.

BARBARA JEAN LEAHY, 74, of Orange, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She had worked for Standard Optical, Livingston, NJ for thirty five years until retiring. Mrs. Leahy sang in the Choirs at the Old First Church, Newark, and the Brick Presbyterian Church, East Orange. Born in West Orange, she had lived in Newark, then East Orange before moving to Orange. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Betty Lou Fox. Surviving are a daughter, Carol R. Taylor and her companion, Guy R. Long of Shark River Hills, a granddaughter, Mitzi McGillin and her husband Robert of Neptune City, a grandson, Shea Taylor, of Neptune, and three great grandchildren, Erin and Jonah McGillin and Amber Taylor. A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Fri. morn., July 16th at 10:00, with burial following at the Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 7-9.

WILLIAM T. FRANKLIN, Sr., 79, of NEPTUNE CITY, died Monday, July 26, 2004, of congestive heart failure. He was the owner of Franklin's Sunoco on Main Street in Asbury Park for over 30 years. Mr. Franklin grew up in Hoopeson, Illinois, and graduated from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, moving to the shore area in the 1950's. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jane Severs Franklin, two sons, William T. Franklin, Jr., Neptune City and Chuck Franklin of Columbus, NJ, three daughters, Peggy and her husband, William Carlin, III of Little Silver, Gail and her husband Paul Shanahan of Wall Twp., Sally and her husband Gary Chicarello of Altamonte Springs, Fla., two sisters, Betty Rogers of California and Jeanne Drollinger of Illinois, eight grandchildren, Elyse and Brad Carlin, Paul and Jimmy Shanahan, Ashley and Nick Chicarello, and Sarah and Susan Anan. A funeral ceremony was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Thurs. morn., July 29th at 10:00 with entombment following at the Monmouth Memorial Park Mausoleum, Tinton Falls. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-8.

DORIS KREY, 80, of Ocean Grove, died Sunday, August 8, 2004, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She had worked as a freelance commercial artist and was a teacher for eight years at Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, N. J. Mrs. Krey was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church, Springfield, N. J. and had attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ocean Grove. Born in Jersey City, N. J., she had lived in Springfield, then Sussex County for 30 years before moving here nine years ago. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Carter in 1967, and by her second husband, Herbert John Krey in 1990. Surviving are a brother, Robert A. Henrich of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, two nieces Barbara N. Henrich and Elizabeth A. Follbaum both of Michigan, and a great niece Sara E. Follbaum of Michigan. A committal ceremony was held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Newton, N. J. on Tuesday morn., September 21 at 10:00.

ALICE VanNAME, 97, of OCEAN GROVE, died September 9, 2004, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She had worked as a seamstress for the Sterling Corset Co., Belmar, N. J. until retiring. Born in Allenwood, N. J., she had lived in Mt. Freedom and Wall Twp. before coming here four years ago. Mrs. VanName was predeceased by her first husband, David Goodfellow in 1949, and by her second husband Gordon VanName in 1985. Surviving are a son, John and his wife Dorothea of Manasquan, a stepson, Charles VanName of Gretna, VA., a stepdaughter, Joan Bixler of Winter Springs, Fla., and two grandchildren, Scott Goodfellow of Hollywood, Fla. and CJ Sabosik of Brick Twp. A graveside ceremony was held at the Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan on Monday, morn., Sept. 13th at 11:00 with burial following. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the United Methodist Homes of N. J., 3311 Hwy 33, Neptune, NJ 07753 or the Francis Asbury Manor, 70 Stockton Avenue, Ocean Grove 07756, would be appreciated.

CARL B. GARDNER, 94, of MURRIETA, CA, died Monday, September 13, 2004, at home. He had worked as a radio engineer and program manager for the US Army Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth for more than 29 years until retiring in 1970. Mr. Gardner was a member of the Crescent Temple, AAONMS, Trenton, the Ocean Grove Masonic Lodge, #228, now the Wall - Spring Lake Lodge # 73, Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Trenton, and was ham radio operator, W2OMZ, since 1939. He was a consultant for ten years to the United States Representatives to NATO working with radio frequency control devices, and served as an intern on the Electro Technical Committee. He abolished the use of the word frequency, in favor of hertz. He attended several engineering classes, and was recognized as an engineer by the US Government, because of his abilities. He was a veteran of WW II. Born in Portland, PA, he had lived in Ocean Grove, Interlaken, Lakewood, and Bull Head City, AZ before moving to California. He was predeceased in 1996 by his wife of 63 years, Jane Harrington Gardner. Surviving are a son Ralph of Murrieta, CA, a brother, Donald Y. Gardner of Wellesley, Mass., two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday morn, September 18, at 10:00. at the United Methodist Church in Murrieta, California. A graveside ceremony was held at the Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls on Monday morn., September 20, 2004 at 11:00, with burial following. There were no calling hours scheduled.

ANNE S. ORR BUCHANAN, 85, of ASBURY PARK, died Friday, September 24, 2004, at home. She was an innkeeper, and had owned Buchanan's Guest House in Ocean Grove, N. J. Mrs. Buchanan attended the Salvation Army and was a member of the Asbury Park Senior Citizens. She was born in County Down, Northern Ireland. Mrs. Orr was predeceased by her husband, Thomas R. Buchanan in December 2003. Surviving in Europe are two sisters, Martha Orr Ballance and Carrie Orr both of Kilkeel, County Down, Northern Ireland, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Orr of Ireland, and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland and England. In this country, she is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert Orr of Wood Ridge, NJ, a niece, Barbara Orr Calabrese and two nephews, Robert and Alexander Orr. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Presbyterian Church on The Hill, Wayside. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Salvation Army, 605 Asbury Avenue, Asbury Park, N. J. 07712 or the Presbyterian Church on the Hill, 10 Cold Indian Spring Road, Wayside, N. J. 07712 would be appreciated.

LOUISE S. BOWNE, 86, of NEPTUNE, died Saturday, September 25, 2004, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. She had worked as a librarian for the Neptune Township Board of Education, serving the Ridge Avenue School, and Neptune High School until retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Ocean Grove Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Bowne was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Born in Ridley Park, PA, she had lived in Ocean Grove before moving to Neptune. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul R. Bowne in 1980. Surviving are two sons, Stephen P. Bowne of Ridgewood and Robert S. Bowne of Ocean Grove, a daughter, Lynn Merry of Hillsborough and six grandchildren. A memorial ceremony will be held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Sat. aft., Oct. 2nd at 1:00. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association's Now and Forever Fund, 54 Pitman Avenue, Ocean Grove, N. J. 07756 would be appreciated.
