CHARLES H. PETERS, 60, a longtime resident of Ocean Grove died suddenly on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune after a brief illness. A graduate of Somerset County Vocational Technical Schools, Raritan, he was employed as a technical associate at Princeton University's Plasma Physics Laboratory from 1965 until 1995. After retiring from Princeton, he attended the Cittone Institute in Edison and received a certificate in computerized accounting. Charlie and his companion, Josh, a young Tibetan Terrier, were a familiar sight in Ocean Grove, as they took their daily walks from one end of town to the other in all seasons and in all kinds of weather. Along the way, they would stop and talk with old friends and make many new acquaintances. Charlie always had a smiling face, a willing ear to listen to his friends and a pocket full of dog treats for all of Josh’s pals. His beloved dog Josh and his African Grey Parrots Matilda and Lorschon survive him. We will miss him very much.
PAUL J. RILEY, 88, of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Ocean Grove, died September 20, 2005 in Florida. He worked in labor relations for N.L. Industries, Raritan, before retiring in 1970. Mr. Riley was a recipient of the Freedom Foundation's Americanism Principal Award presented at Valley Forge, PA, and was past president of both the Washington Fire Company, Ocean Grove and the Ocean Grove Elementary School PTA. He was Scout Master for the Ocean Grove Troop, Boy Scouts of America, sponsored by St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He had been a lifelong resident of the Shore area before moving to Florida in 1982. Predeceased by his first wife Virginia Riley and his brother, Richard K. Riley, who died one month ago, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Jane Partelow Riley, two sons and daughters in law, Paul J. and Carol Riley of Florence, NJ and William M. and Karen Riley of Bonita Springs, FL, two daughters and sons in law, Mary Lynne and Fred Stengel of Clifton, NJ and Patricia Jane and Richard Fotheringham of Bellevue, WA, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls, on Tuesday, May 23rd at 11:00 AM, with interment of ashes following.
MARIA DILAN, 88, of NEPTUNE, formerly of Brooklyn, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Neptune Rehabilitation & Care Center, Neptune. She had worked as a seamstress for the Limer Knitting Mills, Brooklyn, NY until retiring. Surviving are a son, Martin Rivas, Jr., of Florida, two daughters, Maria DeAngelo of Ocean Grove and Maria Calderon of Brooklyn. A funeral service was held at the Grace Tabernacle 2014 Main Street, Lake Como on Monday afternoon, May 22nd at 3:30 PM. Cremation at Greenwood Crematory, Brooklyn, NY will be private. Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Monday from 12-3 PM.
CARL YANOWITZ, 66, of Shark River Hills, NEPTUNE, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at home. He had worked as a plumber until retiring 5 years ago. He was a peacetime veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Yanowitz was an exempt member of the Bradley Beach Fire Department and a member of the Master Plumbers. Surviving are a son, Alan T. Yanowitz, of Ocean Grove, three daughters, Tracey Yanowitz of Florida, Susan and Heather Yanowitz, both of Neptune and three grandchildren Talia and Brian Yanowitz and Emily Larson. Friends and family will be notified of a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, N. J. 07702 would be appreciated.
ELIZABETH H. GOODRICH, 99, of OCEAN GROVE, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Manor-by-the-Sea, Ocean Grove. Mrs. Goodrich was an active partner in her husband's ministry and an author, publishing her book "Celestial Journey" at age 95. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove, the church's United Methodist Women and a member of Church Women United, Asbury Park. Born in Paterson, N. J., she had lived in northern New Jersey before moving to Ocean Grove in 1974. She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Harry W. Goodrich, Sr. in 1989 and by her son Harry W. Goodrich, Jr., in 1991. Surviving are a son, James N. of Westport, Conn., a daughter, Elizabeth Millikan of Victor, N. Y., a sister, Ethel Gillespie, of Ocean Grove, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday afternoon, June 6th at 2:00 PM at
St Paul's United Methodist Church, Embury and New York Avenues Ocean Grove, to be followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Centenary Fund and Preacher's Aid Society, 30 Rainier Court, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840 would be appreciated.
ADRIENNE A. LEVIS, 90, of ASBURY PARK, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She had worked as a technical artist for CDI, Inc. of Red Bank for more than thirty-five years until retiring in 1980. She was born in Philadelphia, PA. Surviving are her cousins, Fred Griscom of Media, PA and Betsy Brown of Ft. Myers, Fla. No funeral ceremony has been scheduled.
VIRGINIA "GINNY" SMITH, 61, of Morehead City, N.C., formerly of MONMOUTH COUNTY, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at home. She was born May 11, 1945, in the Bronx to the late Thomas Joseph and Sylvia Ann Schultz Smith. She graduated from Assisum High School in New York City and attended Brookdale College in Lincroft. Ms. Smith served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. She was also a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. She was a dedicated animal advocate.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Leonard. Surviving are two sisters, Helen Harber of Gloucester, Mass., and Linda Paul of Derry, N.H.; and numerous nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 201 Professional Circle, Morehead City, N.C. Her funeral was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Billy Seate, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Morehead City, N.C., officiating. Burial
with military honors was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PAWS, PO Box 1757, Morehead City, NC 28557. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Morehead City, N.C., and the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, Ocean Grove.
R. SCOTT HANNETT, 51, of OCEAN GROVE, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at home. Recently, he worked as a jeweler for Bentley Diamond Importers, Wall Township. Previously he had worked for De Hearn Jewelers in Sea Girt for 10 years. Mr. Hannett was a member of the Jersey Shore Fitness Shop, Bradley Beach. He enjoyed the beach and reading. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Asbury Park before moving to Ocean Grove thirty-two years ago. Surviving are his partner of 32 years, Vincent P. Oberlander, his sister, Debra Siciliano of Ocean Township, and his nieces, Jenna and Tara Siciliano. Friends were invited to call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Tuesday evening from 7-9 . Interment
was private.
VALDA IRDENIEKS, 53, of HOWELL, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. She was a factory worker for the Alto Development Company Howell for the past fifteen years. She loved her animals. Mrs. Irdenieks was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Born in New York she was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. Surviving are her son Philip Irdenieks of Ocean Grove, her companion of 28 years, Carlos Leon of Howell, two brothers and three sisters. Friends were invited to call from 2-4 PM Sunday at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.
LOUIS A. PISCIOTTO, 80, a life long resident of WANAMASSA, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the MediCenter, Neptune City. He worked for his family's business, Charlies Bar and Grill, Asbury Park, for many years until retiring. He was an Amateur Radio Operator, with the call sign K2ICE. He loved gardening, working with crafts and he loved his dogs. Mr. Pisciotto was a 1944 graduate of Asbury Park High School. Surviving are his sister, Anna H. Pisciotto of Wanamassa. A funeral service was held at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Thursday, morning, June 22nd at 10:00 with burial following at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.
