Nicholas Colline
Manasquan resident Nicholas G. Colline passed away Saturday, April 26 at Waterford Glen in Wall.

He was 91 years old.

Mr. Colline was born in Stamford, Conn., and lived most of his life in Philadelphia before moving to Manasquan over 25 years ago. He was a tool and die maker by trade, retiring from Yale and Towne in Philadelphia after many years of employment. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan, where he sang in the choir. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Janet Grindlay, in 2006.

Surviving are his sons, Frank and Marieann Conover, of Spring Lake Heights, and John and Pat Colline, of Philadelphia, Pa.; a daughter, Frances Palicki, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Lucille Carver and Evelyn McCloskey; five grandchildren, Kim, Todd, Eric, Meghan and Stephanie; four great-grandchildren, Lee, Jason, Keri and Alec; and and many loving nieces and nephews.

Entombment was held in Atlantic View Cemetery, Wall.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Richard J. Newman
Allenwood section of Wall resident Richard J. Newman passed away Friday, April 25 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 82 years old.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Wall and a graduate of Manasquan High School. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 19, 1945, and served in the European Theater of Operations with the 71st and 1st Infantry Divisions until his discharge on Oct. 21, 1946. He enlisted in the New Jersey Army National Guard on Sept. 4, 1947, and was commissioned a second lieutenant on Nov. 2, 1951. He served with the 250th Quartermaster Battalion, later the 250th Supply and Transport Battalion, which he commanded before being reassigned as G4, 50th Armored Division. In August 1976, he was promoted to colonel and was appointed director of support services, New Jersey Department of Defense. He served in several staff positions, culminating as the state logistics officer for the New Jersey Army National Guard. Richard was a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, of whom he was so proud. He was a rare individual who shared his kind words and patient manner with all his friends and acquaintances.

Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley M. [Emer] Newman. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy K. and Valerie Newman, of Howell; a daughter, Tracy Newman, of Brick; and four grandchildren, Christopher Anodide, Rebecca Anodide, Timothy R. Newman and Meredith Newman.

Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Allenwood Church, 3109 Atlantic Ave., Allenwood, 08720.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel McClain
Manasquan resident Hazel McClain passed away Tuesday, April 29 at Sunnyside Manor where she was cared for, for the past four years.

She was 93 years old.

Born in New York City, to Lily and Willy Stephens. Before retiring to New Jersey in 1968, Hazel and her husband Harold lived in the Inwood Section of Manhattan, where they were parishioners of Good Shepard Catholic Church. In 1973 Hazel and Harold moved to Wall and enjoyed watching their seven grandchildren grow up. They were the “Best Grandparents.”

Hazel was one of a kind and a lot of fun, her and her husband were experts at dancing “the Peabody.”

Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 wonderful years, Harold “Sonny, ” in 1987.

Hazel was a devoted mom and grandma. She is survived by her daughter, Judy and her husband, John Byrne, of Manasquan; seven grandchildren, Suzanne and her husband Rich Dunlevy, of Spring Lake Heights, Matthew Byrne and his wife, Megan, of Lake Como, Stephen Byrne and his wife, Kelly, of Wall, Charlene and her husband, Mario Perrotte, of Cranford, Sharon Byrne and her fiancé, Joe Borio, of Brick, Eileen Byrne, of Manasquan, and Maureen Byrne, of Quincy, Mass.

Visiting will be held Friday from 9:30-11:15 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Friday at 11:45 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Burial will follow at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Embracing Hospice, 2101 Highway. 34 South, Suite B Wall, 07719.

George B. Cain
Manasquan resident George B. Cain died on Wednesday, April 23 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

He was 77 years old.

Mr. Cain was the president and owner operator of Liner Systems/Cover Systems Inc. in Fairfax, Va. for many years before retiring in 1997. He also acted as a consultant for the company until his passing.

He was a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955. Mr. Cain was a graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood. He received his bachelors from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. and was a member of the Kappa Alfa Fraternity.

Mr. Cain served as chairman of the County Committee of Manasquan. He was past president of the Manasquan Republican Club. He was a member of the St. Mark’s Choir and the St. Mark’s Holy Name Society in Sea Girt. He also was a member of the American Legion in Spring Lake post no. 432. Mr. Cain also actively volunteered for Right to Life within the catholic community.

He was born in Summit and lived in Maplewood, Albany, N.Y., Cedar Grove, back to Maplewood, and then Dallas, Texas, Naperville, Ill., Cherry Hill, Ridgefield, Conn. and Alexandria, Va., before moving to Manasquan 11 years ago.

Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years Jean S.; two sons, Christopher and his wife, Mary, of Redlands, Calif., and Peter and his wife, Joyce, of Fairfax, Va.; four daughters, Melanie C. Vinci and her husband, Frankie, of Danbury, Conn., Lisa C. Pepin and her husband, Lee, of Ridgefield, Conn., Sallie C. Parker and her husband, Billy, of Partlow, Va., and Mary Jo C. Wentzel and her husband, Greg, of Woodbridge, Va.; his sister, Carolyn Iliff-Willen, of East Orleans, Mass.; 14 grandchildren, Kathleen, Emily, Paul, Peter, Hope, Juliana, Kimberly, Kurt, Brian, Sara, James, Katie, Melissa, Jeremy; a great-grandson, Matthew; sisters-in-law, Linda and Ruth Sharkey; and seven nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at St. Anne’s Cemetery, in Wall. Donations may be made to the Manasquan First Aid Squad, 65 Broad St., Manasquan, 08736 or to the NJ Right to Life Committee.

Michael Clayton
Spring Lake Heights resident Michael William Clayton passed away Monday, April 28 at his residence.

He was 44 years old.

Michael was a self-employed handyman in the Shore area for many years. Born in Long Branch, he had lived in Neptune, Belmar and then in Spring Lake Heights for the past 20 years. He was a graduate of Holy Innocents School, Neptune and St. Rose High School, Belmar. He was also a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.

Surviving are his parents, Lionel E. and Mary Ann Murray Clayton, of Wall; his daughter, Kimberly E. Clayton, of Spring Lake; his son, Joseph Michael Clayton, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his maternal grandmother, Helen Murray, of Colts Neck; his sister, Kathleen M. Clayton, his brother and his wife, Timothy J. and Lisa Clayton, all of Wall; and his niece and nephew, Caitlin E. and Timothy Patrick Clayton, both of Wall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake. No prior visitation will be held.

Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.

Gregory Collins
Wall Township resident Gregory F. Collins passed away Thursday, April 17 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a very brief illness.

He was 61 years old.

Greg was born in Neptune, grew up in Freehold, and then moved to Wall Township in 1980.

He was a member of the second graduating class of Christian Brothers Academy. He then went on to Seton Hall University where he became student body president and pledge master of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, before graduating in 1968. Immediately after graduation, Greg was an elementary school teacher for Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, in Neptune City. Greg began his 34 year career at Harris Upham and later went on to become a Certified Financial Planner and first vice president of Smith Barney of Red Bank. He loved his job and the talented individuals he worked with.

He was active in the North Wall Little League, president of the Parent Advisory for Old Mill School, a member of the Metedeconk River Yacht Club, and co-founder of the “Reel Men’s Adventure Club.” He enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing, rooting for the Yankees, sailing “The Irish Wake, ” and spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and friend.

Greg was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Marjorie Collins, and his mother-in-law, Polly Bailey.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Joyce; a son, Ryan, of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Heather, of Manhattan; a sister, Connie Clarke and her husband, Ray, of The Villages, Fla.; a brother, Joseph and his wife, Judy, of Wall Township; a brother, Patrick, of Freehold; a brother-in-law, Richard Bailey and his wife, Jane, of Fredericksburg, Va.; an Uncle Michael Collins, of Manasquan; a beloved dog Scrappy; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wall United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Lee
Belmar resident Robert I. Lee died Thursday, April 24 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City.

He was 65 years old.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in Belmar for the past 32 years. He was a conductor for 30 years for New Jersey Transit, retiring 15 years ago.

He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Lee and two sisters, Francis Kinnermon and Josephine Rooney.

Surviving are his fiancee, Gloy Mitchell; one brother, Dennis Lee; and four sisters, Dolores Dries, Elizabeth Raferty, MaryEllen Rizzuto and Diane Lynch.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Greenville Avenue, Jersey City.

Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Agnes Lawless
Belmar resident Agnes M. Lawless died peacefully on Thursday, April 24 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

She retired after 27 years as secretary to Monsignor Smith at the Church of St. Rose in Belmar.

Mrs. Lawless was a member of the Church of St. Rose, American Legion Auxiliary 267, Ormond Beach, Fla., Brick Elks Auxiliary Lodge 2151; the Ladies Fleet Reserve Branch 124, Lakehurst, and the American Veterans Auxiliary Post 2, Jackson.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Jr., and three sisters, Katharine Gloff, Ellen Preston and Mary Burns.

She is survived by one son, Alan Smoke and his wife, Kim, of Belmar; five daughters, Ann Miller and her husband, Richard, of Champion, Pa., Carol Soniat and her husband, Robert, of New Orleans, La., Elaine Holinka and her husband, Don, of Rutherford, Jean Rasmussen and her husband, Niel, of Daytona, Fla., and Linda Robinson and her husband, Michael, of Aberdeen; three stepdaughters, Linda Jennings and her husband, David, of Daytona, Fla., Barbara Lawless, of Spring Valley, Calif., and Vanessa Matthews and her husband, Craig, of Lakewood; one brother, Thomas Burns and his wife, Betty Ann, of Whiting; one sister, Margaret Travis, of Holmdel; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, John McDonough, of Brick.

Interment was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Rose Grammar School would be appreciated.

Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of the arrangements.
