Donald L. Weiland Jr.
Brick resident Donald L. Weiland Jr., who has family in Point Pleasant, died early Wednesday morning, April 16, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 84 years old.
He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Everyone who had the chance to know him, loved him.
He was a Vietnam veteran, who honored his country and truly loved it.
Donald retired from Roadway Express after 28 years of service. He was a family man who completely enjoyed time spent with the ones he loved.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald L. Weiland; and his mother, Eleanor Weiland.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret L. Weiland; his daughter, Michelle L. Weiland, of Manchester; his son, Donald L. Weiland III and his wife, Janeen Weiland, of Point Pleasant; his four grandchildren, whom he put his whole being into, Trinity and Todd Jenkins Jr., of Manchester, and Ava and Garret Weiland, of Point Pleasant; his brother, Frank Weiland, of Lakewood; his four sisters, Nancy Truppa, of Stuart, Fla., Margaret Carlson, of California, and Helen Loguidice and Carol Manto, both of Brick; along with many nieces and nephews, who he loved very dearly; and of course his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, who were just like real brothers to him always.
The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Dawn Renee Shields Wright
Jackson resident Dawn Renee Shields Wright, formerly of Point Pleasant, died peacefully Saturday, March 28 after a short but courageous battle with cancer in the VanDyke Hospice of Community Medical Center, Toms River.
She was 40 years old.
Dawn was born and raised in Point Pleasant and has lived in Jackson for 13 years.
She was a graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School. Her family meant everything to her.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Blair E. Ritchie.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Sean W. Wright; four children, Timothy, Samantha, Benjamin and Christopher Wright; her mother, Sharon Ritchie Shields; her maternal grandmother, Virginia Ritchie; two sisters; Colleen Blake and Jennifer Carlton; her aunt, Colleen McCormack; her uncle, Blair Ritchie; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
As an expression of sympathy, donations made to VanDyke Hospice/Community Medical Center Foundation, 99 Route 37, W., Toms River, 08755, are suggested.

Anne H. Willis
Toms River resident Anne H. Willis, formerly of Lavallette, died peacefully Monday, March 30 in her home in the loving company of her family.
She was 77 years old.
She was born and raised in Plainfield and set up married
life in Maplewood. She moved to Lavallette in 1985, and most recently moved to Toms River in 2002.
Mrs. Willis graduated from Cornell School of Nursing in 1952, and worked for several years as a pediatric nurse at Orange Memorial Hospital, Orange.
She obtained her teaching degree and was employed by the Maplewood/South Orange School District for seven years as a school nurse and health teacher.
After moving to Lavallette, she worked as a substitute school nurse for both the Toms River Regional School District and the Brick Township School District.
Mrs. Willis served the Borough of Lavallette as a councilwoman from 1988 to 1995, and was an active member of the Union Church of Lavallette, serving as a member of the church choir and the Woman’s Aid Society.
She had also been a member of the South Orange Rescue Squad, a Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 19, Maplewood, a troop leader for the Girl Scouts; a member of the Lavallette First Aid Women’s Auxiliary, and the Regular Republican Club of Lavallette. She was also active in the PTA in Maplewood and taught CPR and first aid for the American Heart Association in Essex County.
She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, John B., in 1983.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John B. Willis Jr. and Joanne, of Lafayette, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Denise Willis, of Toms River, with whom she lived; a daughter and her longtime partner, Kathryn Willis and Hank Rosetto, of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and Toms River; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Colleen, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sisters, Mabel Hansen, of North Plainfield, and Marianna Perry, of Holmdel; five grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Mark, Jenna, Emil and Evan; and four great-grandchildren, Jada, Kyla, Elijah and Dahliamar.
A funeral service will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, April 3 at the Union Church of Lavallette. Burial
will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.

Albert Benjamin Meserlin
Sea Girt resident Albert Benjamin Meserlin died Sunday, March 29 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was 88 years old.
He had been employed as a Vice President at Fidelity Union Trust, Newark. Mr. Meserlin was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving as General Eisenhower’s personal photographer. He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars. Albert was the last survivor present at the signing of the peace treaty in Reams, France that ended World War II. Brookdale Community College will dedicate Mr. Meserlin’s World War II Photo Gallery as an addition to their library on May 7.
Born in East Orange, he had lived in Chatham Boro for many years before moving to Sea Girt. He had graduated from Seton Hall University, he was a member of the Sea Girt Board of Adjustment and the Sea Girt Volunteer Fire Department. An avid fisherman and photographer, he was a member of the Belmar Fishing Club, a longtime member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Spring Lake, and had volunteered in the ICU at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Harold Meserlin, and his sister, Lorraine Schwartz.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Irene Simpson Meserlin; his two daughters and their husbands, Carol and Danny Feiss, of Spring Lake Heights, and Beverly and Joseph Grogan, of Fair Haven; his sister, June Brownlie, of Youngstown, Ohio, his six grandchildren, Wendy Baron, Pamela McCann, Gregory Hall, Sarah Dey, Joseph A. and Lindsey Grogan; and his five great-grandchildren, Thomas McCann, Keighly and Michael Baron and Londyn Hall and Kaitlyn Dey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 907 4th Ave., Spring Lake, 07762. Gregory W. Somers
Point Pleasant Beach resident Gregory W. Somers died Tuesday, March 24 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was born in Passaic and lived throughout the United States before moving back to Point Pleasant Beach five years ago.
Greg proudly served in the United States Air Force, he was a graduate of Xavier University, an avid golfer and an enormous New York Giants fan.
He worked for approximately 40 years in the chemical and dye industry and retired from Sensient Technologies in 2005.
He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, and donated a portion of his time to St. Gregory’s Pantry in Point Pleasant Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Hadley Somers; and was the loving father of his son, Jeffrey Somers and his wife Ruth, of Flanders, his daughter, Christine Sodt and her husband, Robert, of Barnegat; and his four grandchildren, Emily, Tyler, Henry, and Matthew. He will be missed deeply.
The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Burial
took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

Patricia E. Taylor
New York City resident Patricia E. Taylor, whose son lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Wednesday, March 25.
She was 78 years old.
Born in San Francisco, she resided in East Orange and Paramus before moving to Manhattan in 1970.
She worked as a model for Polaroid, Bergdorf-Goodman, and Isotoner.
She loved the theater and, most of all, ballroom dancing. She also enjoyed travel, spending a lot of time in Coronado, Calif. and the south of France.
Patricia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 36 years, William H. Taylor; and her son, Glenn Warner.
She is survived by two sons; Dr. D. Michael Warner and wife, Sue, of Point Pleasant Beach, and Gary P. Warner, of Paramus. She is also survived by two stepdaughters; Avril Taylor and husband, Ed Erny, of Massachusetts, and Airen Reed and husband, Bill, of Florida; her grandchildren Tim, Tara, and Katie Warner; and step grandchildren Ashley Gorham, Allison Staton and Josh Reed.
Arrangements were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Carl M. Wiedmann
Myrtle Beach, S.C. resident Carl M. Wiedmann, formerly of Manasquan, died Tuesday, March 31 in his residence.
He was 92 years old.
Mr. Wiedmann was born in Newark, a son of the late Carl and Emily Wiedmann. He was a decorated Army Veteran of World War II and a past Commodore of the Manasquan River Yacht Club in Brielle. Mr. Wiedmann worked in the plastics industry and was a life member of The Society of Plastics Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Wiedmann, of Island Green, S.C.; his son, Richard Wiedmann, and wife, Sharon, of Cedar Grove, N.C.; his grandson, Mark Wiedmann, and wife, Corrie, of Wake Forest, N.C.; his two great-grandchildren, Trey and Taylor Wiedmann; and his beloved dog, Nike.
Services will be private.
