John Martin
John “Johnny” Martin, 58, of Point Pleasant, passed away on May 22, at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Bronxville N.Y., he grew up in Tuckahoe N.Y., and is a former resident of Richmond Va., and Toms River, most recently residing in Point Pleasant for the past eight years.

Mr. Martin worked as a salesman for Coast Honda in Sea Girt, after a long career with the Stylco and Lady Foot Locker divisions of FW Woolworth. He was an avid New York Yankees Fan, who enjoyed 2012 Yankee Spring Training this year in Tampa, Florida. Johnny loved to travel, especially with his friends and family to Aruba for Thanksgiving for the last 25 years.

John was a man with great personality. He loved to lighten any event with humor. His sisters loved to talk with him because he made them laugh. John was a stickler for punctually and neatness and was greatly tortured by his wife’s more casual attitude. As a young man he was known as “Mr. Clean.” John was excellent at numbers except when he “forgot” some golf strokes. One of John’s sterling qualities was his ability to live in the present. He did not dwell on the past or let unhappiness overtake him. One of the happiest events of his life was his daughter’s marriage to Anthony Marinaro. He loved her so and was comforted that Amanda had Anthony as her partner for life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Emilia Salvatore Martin, and his cherished daughter Karen Marie Martin in 1986.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 37 years, Christine Peterson Martin, his loving daughter Amanda Marinaro and husband Anthony, his dear sisters Peggy Lynch and husband Joseph, Eileen Hillmann and husband Henri, and Patricia Martin, his brothers William Martin and wife Susan, and James Martin and wife Fern, 23 nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a time to be determined on Saturday, May 26 at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Toms River with private cremation to follow.
